  1. I bought a Vega modular about 4 years ago. I like it, not sold on modular latch though. Latches don't look to be metal. Reason I bought it was I fit between 2 sizes. Vega at the time I bought mine had sizes that ran a little different and it made it easier to find my helmet. I ordered off the net because I couldn't find one to try on. I got lucky I guess. Might be worth a look......just looked at a '15 model and chin bar latch is all metal which is nice to see.
  2. With my youngest still in school, day long trips are kind of out the question. Have to get her to the school bus (long driveway, rural farm) in morning so that can mess up the morning bite. Also lots of ball games and practices after school. I have 2 local lakes that are withing 25 miles. I can get over to either one and put in a fairly good day. Not terribly concerned about mobility, one lake I've fished lots of times and know where to go. The other is a shallow lake with flat muddy bottom not a lot of structure per say. A few walleyes and mostly northern pike. I just want to be more comfortable than my portable. Plus it gives me something to do right now. Grain farming with no livestock makes for a slow winter......
  3. Now that is cold and white on the ground, to stay busy I decided to make an ice shanty for fishing. I already have a flip over, but looking to make something a little more comfortable. So if you have any pictures of your set ups, I'd like to see them for some inspiration and ideas! Thanks in advance....
  4. Isn't there an app for that? Just look on your smartphone, there is an app for everything else! Seriously, sucks to hear about your foot. I messed mine up in june, barely made Sturgis. It still is really sore. Popped ankle out of socket and back in. Torn ligaments and tendons etc. Walking boot, then ASO brace for a long time plus therapy.Hoping to be better by next June.....Hope you are better by next June too. It's going to take awhile I can tell you that.
  5. I'll remember that. Next time I discuss a diet with the missus I'm going to tell her I need to lose a couple of pixels.......
  6. Well said "Its home"......
  7. Jeez it looks like I better lay off the pie and ice cream for about 20 years! Either that or your camera adds a couple hundred pounds.......who am I kidding, its easier to just buy bigger clothes..... Hey I just noticed the bike on the trailer in the background. And it wasn't even mine!!!!.......remember I was closest one from Sturgis, and I trailered . For those of you who weren't there, I trailer so my wife will come out for a long weekend and stay. She doesn't ride with me unfortunately.....
  8. Puc, this is mine from this year. Imagine them horns tied to your mirrors instead of them antelope horns.
  9. I still have my RSTD in the garage and my son rides it. I haven't looked at technical stuff in 2 years or more. I do like seeing comparisons of other makes and such, it keeps me interested in riding when I can't due to work or weather. The Venture/RSTD brought us all together and most of us have met some of our other members in person. The thing I do miss most about this site is the chat room. Several of us used to frequent that almost every day. When I first joined in 08 the chat room was packed with several people at a time. In the last year or so there was usually 3 or 4 of us on there. So the chat room followed exactly what Don says is happening to the site. So whatever happens to this site in the future, we have to preserve the friendliness that this site has. It's not superficial either. As soon as you meet a fellow member in person its easy to become friends. This site for lack of a better word is casual...not strapped with a bunch of rules of what you can and can't do. Our members get it, and its a fun thing to be a part of. The Venture brought us together but motorcycles keep us together. It's evident by how many of us (me included) have switched brands. I almost let my membership drop last spring. I renewed last spring and last summer we had a get together at Sturgis, approximately 15 of us were there counting wives. We were together for about 1 1/2 hours is all. It totally recharged my Venturerider.org batteries. And that my friends is a powerful thing. This site and its members are a great thing. I urge you members who haven't been to a get together of some sort, take time and make it to a get together. When you do, bring a friend, when you see how nice and more importantly "genuine "our members are, you will be hooked even more. And so will your friend......

  11. My neighbor across the street had one in mint condition. You could eat off that thing it was so clean. He also had a 292 Snow Jet and a Arçtic Cat 440 Puma snowmobiles that were just as clean. He passed away in his early sixties of heart attack. His wife sold his HD Electra Glide that he was riding, but she has kept everything else. I saw him get those out of the shed 3 or 4 different times and I just loved that 350 it was awesome.
  12. Classic first bike story for ya Puc. My dad was born in 1931, when he was in high school he bought a Whizzer and rode it for awhile. One day he couldn't get it running so they tied a rope from it to his friends old Model A and pulled him back to town on GRAVEL . Good thing nhe was wearing a heavy leather jacket, cuz his buddies were pulling him about 30 mph when he went down. Had GRAVEL all the way through his coat and into his back. Whizzer was sold not long after that. I think grandma had something to say about that. That would've happened in 1948 or 1949......I guess I see where I got it from.......
  13. Pictures of all of them from the internet.....oh the memories
  14. I was 10 or 11 years old when it became all mine. It was a blue Kawasaki 90 enduro. Started riding it when I was 8 but had to share it with my older brother. My oldest brother had a Kawasaki 175 red in color, moved up to a Yamaha 400 yellow in color dirt bike. My other brother who is 3 years older bought a Yamaha 250 dirt bike and I got the little Kawasaki. That 250 was a strong running bike. The 400 didn't have much on the 250.....No pictures of any of them either. After the 90, I moved up to a Yamaha 100 (taller frame). Wrecked that one, jumping approaches etc. Winter time we had 2 Yamaha 250 Enticer snowmobiles. Lots of Yamaha's in our family over the years....
  15. I grew up with the guys at this shop and I trust them. Owner was my best friend when I was growing up. My right side is showing wear and I made a comment on hitting a pothole etc. They told me that my left side is worse than my right which surprised me. Our county roads are atrocious. County is way behind on upkeep and maintenance. Lots of flooding in the 10 years prior wrecked roads along with semis hauling grain to market. Roads aren't built to withstand the weight changes over the years. County budgets can't begin to cover it all. Asphalt road leading to my house is patched with gravel as we speak and has been for 2 years. Not a good situation at all. So I am not surprised my truck needs work.

Had to watch that again. That was a good time. Next year we have to meet earlier and stop up at the Spur Creek Saloon. That place is cool. Nice and laid back, not what you would expect at Sturgis. Of course an afternoon ride would be a bonus!!!!!
  17. reminds me of all those guys taking pictures of the buffalo in Custer State Park. Don't those yahoos realize that those are massive wild animals. Glad you used some due diligence and gave that bad boy some room. My in laws raise elk, and they are nothing to mess with!
  18. I have a 2012 Ram 2500 truck. Right front tire is wearing funny. Cupping on the outside, 3 other tires are good. Figured I hit a pothole and knocked front end out of alignment. Took truck into a local shop that I trust to align front end and rotate the tires. The shop called back and told me to come get it thy need parts. They say it needs upper and lower ball joints. Truck has just under 56000 miles. I called the dealer and talked to service manager. He said it's hard to believe that it would need new joints, but also said Ram trucks have a higher tolerance in movement in their joints than other brands. Sounds funny to me. I don't think play in ball joints is good at all. Movement isn't acceptable......looking online a lot of stuff comes up with ball joints and Dodge trucks. So I guess this is a heads up if you run a Dodge Ram. Anybody else having this kind of problem?

Topics with motorcycles always take a turn towards ice cream! And that's a good thing!!!!! Question for Puc, what do you suppose is the pie flavor of the week is at the Blue Line Diner? I'm betting it is served warm with ice cream on top!!!!

Interesting ice cream trivia......South Dakota State University began selling its own ice cream commercially in 1910. It is still sold commercially with over 60 flavors. I always thought Blue Bunny ice cream (SDSU's mascot is the Jackrabbit) was started by SDSU but not sure. Anyway they have awesome ice cream.
  21. Man, 400 miles or so north might get a little crowded. Guessing you might run into some oil drilling up there....... Our deer are nothing to sneeze at! They get some awfull big bodies up here. They need it too to get through our winters. I did hit one with my pickup one time. I was late for work and had to be clocked in by 6 a.m. it was January and wind chill was -20. I was going 85 mph and this buck (nicest I've ever gotten) crosses right on end of bridge. I had nowhere to go coming through the bridge, so I took him dead center of my truck. I thought this isn't so bad, then the hood came up over the windshield at probly 70 mph. I just looked out drivers side window and kept truck out of ditch until I could pull off road into a farmers driveway. The fan blades were bent right to the block of the engine. Anyway the highway patrolman came to fill out the report, but it was so cold he wasn't interested in getting out to see the truck. He asked how fast I was going and I said I wasn't looking at speedometer, I was looking at the deer. He filled out report and handed me the copy for insurance then got out to look at my truck. His exact words were " Holy Sh--, a deer did this?" I said "it was a big deer". I was lucky he was using a flashlight in dark, when the sun came up it was even worse looking. He knew I was hauling buns but never said anything else, so I got away with that one. Funny thing was, stuff like that happens in slow motion. At 80 plus miles per hour, I still had time to count the points on the rack. I never did find any parts of the rack afterward either. Must of just fragmented it was so cold.....
