It is so cold out, my dad who walked to school 5 miles uphill both ways, said the hell with it

Let's hear your best "It's so cold out"..... It's so cold out only guys with names like Al or Ed have time to write their name in the snow...... ought to be good to see some of these answers

awhile back somebody posted a pic of red pointed rear turn signal lenses that fit the standard turn signal. Similar to the old caddy/chevy cars from the fifties. I would be interested in adding them to my bike, but not if I have to change the whole blinker. I noticed that the Strats have a pointed clear lens, and wonder if they would fit the rstd/venture. Any help would be appreciated

I had a Kawasaki Brute Force 650 that I really loved. I lost in in a fire before i could use it in the snow. I replaced it with a Polaris Sportsman 500HO. I had issues with the Kaw dealer, no reflection on the atv at all. I put a snowsport atv plow on my polaris. They are more expensive than most, but you dont need a winch, so in the end it is about a wash. The plow can be used to push straight or you can angle it either way to windrow snow to the side. I really like this feature. It also has a rubber cutting edge which is really good on a sidewalk etc. It will not scalp grass if you get into the grass, and will work on uneven surfaces, like cobblestones or a cracked sidewalk. I also love that. The one thing I dont always like is it is designed to push forward, and is set up to back up in reverse with no pressure against the blade, so it just floats over the ground. That is perfect for a driveway etc. unless you have to back up long distances, then it is a pain. The only other thing i dont like is, it will leave a thin film of snow on the sidewalk cause of the rubber edge, it is like a squeegie. but those are minor inconveniences. I would rate the plow a 8.5 out of 10. It is a 54 inch wide i think. The Atv will push to beat heck, it is a 4wd or 2wd whichever you prefer just push button. Is the polaris better than the Kaw, I'd say no, but i didnt push snow with kaw either, plus it had another 150 cc. Google the snowsport plow. there are some good videos of it in action. I used my polaris last night pushing a windrow left by the city plow that was bumper deep on my pick up. I have used it over x-mas on 8 inches of fresh stuff. It works really well.Plus they make a receiver mount for a vehicle, so you can back up and push with your pick up or sport utility. Another option to consider. Sorry so long winded, hope this helps

I have the Barons slash cuts, not the 4-2-4's. I really like em. They are loud but have a real nice sound to them. When you are cruising along they have a real nice even tone to them. Sound like an old chevy with glass packs on it. Havent heard a set of Bubs. The Barons are loud, you can hear me coming from a long ways away.

After this last blast we had the last 2 days, (no school either day). I would totally expect to have school tomorrow. When we get up in the morning, low will be -30 below with a windchill down to a -45. And I think we will still have school. Cant let everything stop you.

:yikes:Well it could of been worse. We only had about 8 inches of that white crap. It blew in pretty good though with all of that wind. Spent about 1 1/2 hours pushing snow with my atv and blade. We are not snowed in and can get out if we need to. The snow is now knee deep on the level for me, and i am 6'0" tall. So it looks like next spring is going to be another doozy, and we have a long way to go before we get there. The amount of snow we have on the ground is already more than normal........

Besides it being the middle of winter here in S. Dakota, mother nature decided to let us have it again today. 5 to 8 inches of really fluffy snow today, and winds are going to blow about 35 mph. Looks like i'm not doing anything at all AGAIN. So besides all the blowing snow and the -25 below windchill we'll have tonight everybody will be safe at home and staying there for a day or two. I havent ridden in so long that i'm starting to get a bit bummed. So now that i've vented you may return to your normal programming.......

I hear ya Bubber, yesterday morning i woke up to a nice and cozy -30 below. Although we only got about 13 inches of snow over x-mas here in northeast S.Dak!

Ron, I know we've never met, or come across each other on this site. But losing friends and family is a terrible blow to anyone. I can remember getting the phone call late at night of my father in laws passing from a car accident, and having to break the news to my wife. I dont wish that kind of sorrow on anyone. I cant imagine losing 2 friends in one day. But I can say this, as an adult it is conditioned in us to be in control of our surroundings. When something happens that we can't control, we question ourselves as to why, and how we failed to make things right. It took me awhile after my father-in-laws passing to realize that the only thing i could do to help my wife was to comfort her as much as I could and let god take care of the rest. After all it his plan that we are living. When I think of how insignificant my place is on earth, and how significant my place is with god, things seem to heal much faster. The pain is still there but not as deep. So the next time you are outside and see a beautiful sunrise, or a quiet picture postcard sunset. Remember that is gods work, and you and your friends are all part of it, they might not be standing shoulder to shoulder with you, but they are seeing it with you.....Trust me Bernie

I gotta remember this one for the next time i really want something!

I have Barons slash cuts on my rstd. Sound really good, a touch loud but i wrapped them. It helped alot. but i gotta admit that they are still loud. The only thing i wished was that the slash cut went the opposite way. The angle cut is cut following the line of the bags. But i wished the cut was opposite, from the tip on top cut back towards the front on the bottom. That way when you walk up to the bike you dont look into the inner of the exhaust. It would help cover the inside and show more chrome. It would'nt follow the line of the bags, but i think it would look better

How do you guys do it????

I average about 36, on my 08. I usually ride about 70 to 75 mph. But if i keep it under 65 i'll get upwards of 42. Doesnt happen very often though, i ride at 70 or better most times so I dont worry about it. -
Another thing to consider, if this is a smaller volunteer department, they are more than likely trying to look ahead for as many possibilities as they can think of. I come from a small rural vol. dept. as well. I still think of when we just got our new truck, and when i do the math, its almost 20 years old already. Time to replace, so they just may be looking ahead for as many different possibilities as they can, cause its got to last em a long time

What he said! The reach makes a big difference.

And the Questions are...

Hey wes, just like we chatted the other night. Do the origional ivory in black cherry, and the origional black in ivory, The white walls would jump right out at you, and would look awesome. The more i look at the pic, thats what id do. anyway good luck and i really like the hard bags! It's a tough choice but either way, if you keep it origional black/ivory you still got a winner!........ winner winner chicken dinner!!!!! -
To each his own. If id buy a touring bike like the new strat, id like more than a 4.5 gal fuel tank. Heck i wish my rstd held a little more. And for 17500 id consider a street glide as well. Something i didnt even consider when i bought my 08 tour deluxe.

My first bike was a 90cc Kawasaki. It was a late 60's or early 70's model. I believe that they called them enduros back then. It was a hand me down from my older brother. I first got to ride it around the farm when i was 8 yrs old. I remember it well cause i forgot how to stop, so i "gently" coasted to a stop by running into the white picket fence around the farm house! There were 3 or 4 of those little dirt bikes around the area, and all of us would ride them into little league baseball games. Try doing that today.

your gonna love the bike!!!! I bought my 08 last july and love it, as far as cleaning it just good ol fashioned soap and water. i also use some honda brand cleaner and polish to wipe it down every now and again. Shes a shiny blue/black. Going to try the pledge thing when i run out of the honda stuff. I keep thinking of all the different stuff i want to do or get for the bike, the only other option would be the venture. But for now this is a great bike, no plans to change in the near future, unless i win the lottery, then i can have both!
