  1. I'm sure gonna try and make it out there. Heck I live in SD for cripes sake. Hope to be done with wheat harvest.......
  2. Hope it works out, that'd be fun....
  3. Isnt Clear Lake Iowa where Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens, crashed?
  4. I just weighed it today TX, and you are close. It weighs 130 pounds. empty toungue weight is 19.5 pounds. I loaded the trailer down with tent, air matress, sleeping bag, helmet, lawn chair, and one of my riding jackets. I added my 40 qt cooler on the front and the toungue weight is up to 23 pounds. total weight loaded is about 185-190. I went to Wally World and bought a 5 dollar fish scale so i can weigh the toungue etc. every time i load it up. I think im at about 12 percent toungue weight as it sits now. Should be pretty good.
  5. Vibration didnt bother me at all. THere is quite a bit when idling, but when you get rolling it seems to smooth out. It cruises along quite nicely as a matter of fact. It seems more nimble of course. But it should, it is quite a bit lighter. I am 6' 1" and 250 pounds, and notice there isnt nearly as much room as the deluxe has though. But with the weight difference, it doesnt surprise me. The deluxe and the glide are like comparing apples to oranges. 2 totally different animals. I like it though
  6. I've only rode about 10 miles or so at a time to try it out, and make modifications. But so far i really like it. Im going to weigh the trailer today etc. so i know exactly what im doing. I noticed i dont ride quite as aggressive, not sure if it is the trailer or the uncertainty of having it back there. But that is a good thing. Stopping doesnt seem to be an issue, but havent tried a sudden stop yet either. I am hoping everything works out and I can go to Sturgis. Liiking forward to taking trailer.
  7. a few of my buddies and I decided to help out another friend and change out his pipes on his street glide for him. We had to ride it over to my buddies garage about 6 miles away. So naturally i got to ride it to the garage to be worked on. Since I havent ever ridden a HD of any kind, here are my first impressions. Bike seems smallish compared to my tour deluxe. I love the narrower tank. I also like the fit and finish. His bike seems to idle a little high, Vibration at idle was there of course, but it didnt really bother me. I really liked the fairing, not used to the hand controls on bars, but of course wouldnt take long. I seemed to feel a little scrunched up in the seat. My feet didnt feel quite as far forward. I like the bar positioning. Feels like the bars come back toward me a little more. The seat rest and pegs are set for a guy 5' 9" and i'm almost 6' 1" so that explains the scrunched in feel. Over all i like the bike. Its a bone stock 96 inch motor, not terribly quick by any means but ok. When I pulled into the garage shut off the bike and sat on it till we got a lift under it. Right away I couldnt believe the amount of HEAT coming from the motor. That i did not like. Would I change to a glide, maybe, but in no hurry.
  8. Glad ya had fun, I've seen those buffalo when they werent quite so nice. I see you got to ride iron mnt. road as well. The pigtail bridges are awesome. Spearfish canyon is a nice ride as well as Needles hwy.
  9. If you are like me, not knowing the trailer as far as tires and bearings. You will probly replace tires and wheel bearings. You may consider a new harbor freight flatbed. If you have a welder etc. you can size it however you want. A new set of tires and bearings will be 100 bucks. Fenders another 20 or so. Spend another 30 to 50 and you could have a new trailer. Of course leds vs. the harbor freight lights will get spendy. Also it helps if you have the carrier/box to mount on it. Whichever way you go, get started, its alot of fun to do. I had a neighbor come over and look at mine, he said he was skeptical at first. But he was really impressed how nice they turn out. He's gonna start his sometime this winter I think. Good Luck on yours.
  10. Right off the top of my head, I have about 320 bucks in it. I'll list what I've done trailer 35 plywood 15 lights (led)80 wiring harnes etc. 20 paint 20 wheels 70 bearings 30 fenders 20 misc. pinstriping..10 tax and license 18 I couldve bought the complete harbor freight trailer for about that much, but it isnt like this one, Plus shipping to my door was over 100 bucks more. It was a fun project, here are the final pics.
  11. I'm pretty much done now. I just added new tires, wheel bearings, and new fenders. All I have left to do is mount the spare tire. Here is the finished product
  12. I've been fighting water in basement for over 2 years here in SD. It is just basically damp now but still. I have knocked 2 different sump holes in the floor. I used the black plastic culvert type stuff for the hole. I replaced a 5 gallon pail that i used before. Use a sump pump that has the float that slides up and down on the rod, not one that swings up and down on the cord, those may hang up and burn out your pump. then i put in a check valve on the pipe to prevent water siphoning back into the hole from the discharge line. Then i use a camlock coupler attached to pvc pipe for my discharge pipe. I routed it to the easiest point out of the house. Once the pipe is outside you can use about anything to get the water away from the house. Oh i forgot to mention... I lined the hole around the outside of the black pipe with pearock, and drilled some holes in the black plastic culvert to let water seep in. This helps let the groundwater out from under your floor if you have problems with water seeping up through a crack etc. The camlocks make taking apart much easier
  13. Almost done with it, gotta do wheels and wheel bearings. Then its look out highway! here are some more pics.
  14. Im already thinking of my next bike (a long way off). I have a tour deluxe, and if Yamaha doesnt update the venture, i wont even look at another Yamaha. Lately I have been looking at H-D Road Glides. (the wife wont ride). So actually needing a touring trunk isnt that much of a necessity. So it actually would come down to the road glide, the ultra,or possibly the Victory cross country. Dont blame you a bit for doing what you did. Sometime in the future I will do it too. I suppose buying a HD would be alot like buying a John Deere tractor, pay alot more up front, get alot more when you sell/trade.
  15. I had to give the trailer a test run tonight. Pulled it for a few miles. Couldnt tell it was back there either. Of course it was empty. I had a buddy follow me, he said it pulls good, straight as a string. No bounces either. Looks like I got a winner.......Oh by the way the dirty fat guy in the picture is me. Only thing I am missing in the picture is ice Cream.
  16. The topper is an old used one that my dad had, It hasnt been used in years. The cheapest new topper i have seen is at Sears. THe have a good sized one for 99 bucks.
  17. from looking at some of the pics, i need to clean my shop.......I am thinking of getting some xtra blinkers from a motorcycle so i can use some beehive lenses like i have on my bike already. Is it possible to make a stop/turn signal with the one bulb in the blinker? Heres a pic of the turn signals on my bike. I think it would look cool on the trailer as well.
  18. heck if i know the brand, it was an older box. My dad had it sitting in his business shop up on a rack for at least 15 years, its used very little. Looked like a big bar of soap. Had to fix that right away. It isnt very big. The deck of the trailer is 28x36. Carrier is about 10 deep if i remember right.
  19. I bought a flatbed trailer to pull behind my tour deluxe. Paid a whopping 35 bucks for it. Anyway, i have narrowed the bed and shortened it as well, narrowed the axle. Added some paint. Things left to do. Wire the bike, add tail lights, bearings and seals. Maybe a tire. But so far am up to a whopping 50 bucks invested. Here are some pics....
  20. You mean every day isnt Nat. Ice Cream Day? What the Heck......
  21. getting closer, flipped the axle over to lower it. Shortened and narrowed the deck, narrowed the axle. a little paint. Still have to wire the bike, add tail lights, replace a tire, and probly new bearings and seals.
  22. Heres the trailer. The white carrier that looks like a big bar of soap didnt come with it. I had that already. Not bad for 35 bucks!
  23. I just ordered a Harbor Freight flatbed trailer a few days ago. I stopped by a few local dealers that sell trailers etc. Neither had anything i could use along the motorcycle line. Anyway the wife was less than enthused that I started in on the trailer thing in the first place. (she doesnt ride). Anyway one of the dealers just found a used flat trailer that was pulled behind a wing i guess. So the wife will be less than impressed that i bought another trailer. But it was only 35 bucks, and it is titled. Cant go wrong with this deal, so it looks like im gonna have 2 trailers. Guess I will have a smaller and a bigger trailer. This trailer has 8 inch tires which appear to be in good condition, and bearing buddies to boot. The harbor freight trailer is 12 inch tires. so a bigger box may be in order for that one.
  24. thanks for the info. I think im gonna look for some xtra motorcycle turn signals and mount them on the trailer instead of tail lights. Gotta figure out how to make them stop and turn signals. Then I can use the same beehive lens covers that are on my bike. That and the same color match as my rstd should look pretty cool.
  25. Just checked Harbor Freight Summer Blowout Catalog. The 12 inch wheel trailer is listed at 239.99 on the internet, with 179.99 for 8 inch wheel. The catalog shows the 12 inch wheel on sale for 199.99. The 8 inch is still 179.99. I called Harbor Freight over the phone and they said 199.99 was correct, so for 20 bucks difference, i ordered the heavier trailer with bigger wheels. I plan on fitting it to my carrier anyway. So I can drop a spring if I have to to improve ride. So with 13 bucks shipping to my door it is a no brainer. Looks like im going to have a trailer soon. By the way I checked on the complete package with the carrier etc. shipping is an extra 90 bucks on that little devil. So if you have the tools and welder etc. order the trailer, go to sears and pick up a carrier for 100 bucks modify the trailer, and you will still be about 120 bucks ahead. 330 plus 103 shipping to my door is 433 bucks. 199.99 plus 13 bucks is 213 bucks to my door. plus a 100 dollar sears carrier is 313. I am still 120 ahead. Even More than that actually, cause I have the carrier already. Looks like I might have to go to Sturgis yet this year if I get my butt in gear. Have an excuse to get a trailer done now.
