  1. It works ok. I use an ipod shuffle on it. And recently i saw i could get extra speakers for 9 bucks apiece. So I got em and mounted them as well. The radio cuts out if i turn it up way loud. but at 1/2 volume they sound better. I can hear real well even in heavy cross winds. But I usually dont wear a helmet. (I Know I Know), plus that is with Barons pipes on. It is a cheap way to get tunes, but it actually works pretty well. I mounted the amp in a windshield bag to keep it dry. It does get rather warm in there but no problems as of yet. I think I have a pic or 2 of them mounted
  2. I ride an 08 tour deluxe, I keep blowing the headlight fuse. I have installed passing lights wired in according to instructions (no relay). I also have it wired for a trailer. My question is this. If i keep shorting out headlight due to driving lights, shouldnt the driving lights go out as well? They stay on, and I wasnt pulling trailer either time when it happened. Besides each trailer wire has its own fuse, unless short is in behind license plate. I am guessing pinched wire near handlebars? Just looking for ideas on where to start when it gets light out. Thanks in advance....
  3. http://www.recklessmotorcycles.com/roadstar.htm Anybody familiar with Reckless Fairings? I am thinking of putting a fairing on my tour deluxe.
  4. like them nice quiet empty streets there. somehow they didnt look like that when i was down there. Here are a few more pics. The pic of the bike from the back is a triumph...way cool. The 2 pics of guys riding indoors are taken at the broken spoke. They have you drive through the 40,000 square foot bar before you park your bike. The 4th picture is looking down on Sturgis
  5. when the on line poll popped up for me, i was going back through pages i had already looked at. I couldnt find it either, then all of the sudden there it was. It asked me if i was done searching and had time to take survey.....
  6. Mission accomplished, I think they got my point.......
  7. i will do it expeditiously!

    2011 venture?

Ruffy you hit the nail on the head. At Sturgis i saw a rocket III sitting on the street, cool. And the other bike I kept seeing that made me stop was the road glide. especially the ultra. Since the closest triumph dealer to me that i am aware of is omaha neb. I think I know which way i am leaning. I try not to buy into all the HD hype but that road glide is a nice looking machine. I might have to investigate this winter. If I do id have a real good 08 rstd to figure out what to do with. But Im not putting the cart before the horse. Gotta think about this for a long time

    2011 venture?

Sorry for starting this thread. I know that it has been brought up before, but going to sturgis and not seeing it down at the yamaha trailer ticked me off. I guess i just had to vent sorry......

    2011 venture?

I hear ya captainjoe. I ride a tour deluxe, and that bike is done, no more, so that leaves me with the venture if i want to stay with yamaha. the strat doesnt do it for me. If i want to buy another bike in a few years and have it be basically the same bike i bought in 08 with a fairing and trunk. I will so No Thanks. but i probly could still buy a carburated machine. It just frustrates me when I see that. Such a good bike and they couldnt even show one off to the public. I almost felt slighted or insulted might be a better word. Doesnt instill alot of confidence if they cant bring one to Sturgis. I guess they arent proud of them. And I know Sturgis is a HD thing, but with a projection of something like 800,000 people there for the 70th anniv. That leaves alot of metrics driving around Sturgis. But they couldnt bother to bring one. Maybe it was to big to fit in the truck?
  11. Yeah your right, not gel i guess. But Gel or rubber squares they work.

    2011 venture?

yeah they are a good bike, but you'd think they would even have one at one of the biggest motorcycle events that there is. They had 1 strat, 2 v-max's, and some of hte other v-stars, and a raider i think. The guy said that the venture owners are loyal, and that if they buy one, they probly will buy another, and that alone will keep the product moving without changing much. Eventually they will sell. Not really a proactive way of looking at things. We have a good product, leave it the way it is and it will steadily plod along in sales. I guess I see their point, but why not try and spice it up some.
  13. i will take a look, im guessing you are refering to the tire wear. Thanks for the tip
  14. I talked to a rep at the Yamaha tent in sturgis, They had all their new yammies sitting out on display. I walked around a bit then went up and talked to a guy. He asked if i was interested in anything. I told him i was interested in the new 2011 venture. Because they didnt have one out on display. Not even a 2010. I said that I was a member on here and everybody wants to know what is coming. He basically told me "I feel your pain". He said Yamaha has a bike that sells the way it is, and that he doesnt know what they have coming down the pipe. and that he doesnt know whats coming. So I took that as another year of the same thing. He asked if i was interested in anything else. I said that if nothing changes soon I'll be interested in another brand......
  15. I recently had a post about seat beads and somebody suggested trying a gel pad from wal mart instead. I tried the beads and hate them, so I bought the 20 dollar pad. I just got back from sturgis. It is roughly a 350 mile trip one way for me. Since this is the first time I have traveled a good distance with it I was skeptical how long I would be comfy. Well I'll say this, my bike is no longer a 350-400 mile per day bike. I could easily double that now if i wanted. I could sit in the seat all day. So if anybody is having seat trouble (all you rstd'ers like me) give it a try, you might be surprised. 2 of my friends bought them too. 1 rides a vtx, and the other a wing. They guy on the vtx couldnt believe how much they help. The wing rider was comfy anyway, but even he noticed a difference.
  16. I have the WWW 404's on mine. I have no complaints whatsoever. I have a little over 4300 on mine. The front looks like it is starting to cup a little but you cant feel it when you ride. All in all Id buy them again. Heres mine
  17. I gotta file that away in this steel trap of a brain......I read on here somewhere to use goop hand cleaner. The origional stuff without the pumice. It works good too. just make sure you only use it on the sidewalls keep it off the tread surface
  18. Just got back from Sturgis, and there were lots of fishtails there. I personally like em.
  19. Nope no concerts for me, we took a backway into Sturgis when we went in. there is 7 or 8 miles of gravel, so that weeds out 99.99999 percent of the bikers that ride. So that part was kind of nice. Since I live in SD and have been on all the roads (iron mnt, needles hwy, etc.) I left that to everybody else. We did ride to the Stone House Bar and Grill just west of Belle Fourche. Wasnt thinking to well on that one. Since it was wednesday and everybody seemed to be heading to Hewlett Wyo, it was terribly busy there as well. We got right in and parked down in the grass at the bottom of the hill. We just ordered a beverage (O' Douls) and a burger. I looked out at the highway and there were bikes lined up for over a mile waiting to get in. But being that it was so hot, I limited my riding time. I was staying with some friends, and they had air conditioning, so we would quit early and cool off. We did alot of cookouts and sat by the camper at night. It cooled off nicely and was to comfortable to do much else!
  20. My first trip to Sturgis was fun. It was also very warm. Mid to upper 90's made downtown Sturgis a blast furnace. I heard that the estimate for Sturgis was 800,000 people because of the 70th anniversary, and I'd believe it. If you rode down main or Lazelle street it would take over an hour to go 5 blocks. On tuesday it was so hot guys were shutting the bikes off and pushing them down the street. I didnt carry a camera with me and trying to take pics riding solo is kinda difficult, but i managed a few pics with my cell phone camera. The last pic is the Missouri river crossing at Gettysburg SD.
  21. Heck you were about 80 miles from me when you came through
  22. I was kind of thinking that 5th gear was kind of a no-no until I got well up into the powerband, I did feel it lug a few times for sure. I think the box is 28 x 36. but most of the time i am running flatlands. Here is the trailer....
  23. I ride an 08 RSTD. I just made a trailer to pull behind my bike. Up here in SD, we usually run about 70-75 mph out in the country. My trailer weighs about 130 pounds empty, loaded about 185. Anyway I normally avg about 36-38 mpg. I did a test pull with the trailer the other day, putting about 80 miles or so on it. I did some in town pulling, so it wasnt all highway miles. I avg 27 mpg. Is this about right? Or should I try and stay out of overdrive and keep the revs up a bit more to keep from lugging the motor? I am a little disappointed in the mileage, but i knew it would drop. I figured that the trailer isnt that heavy so maybe id be ok. What is everybody else getting pulling a trailer? thanks in advance. Since the trailer is new and Im not used to it yet, im packing everything on the bike. The trailer is gonna have to wait......
  24. Well it looks like my first trip to Sturgis is a GO! Since my wife doesnt ride, I figured it is my duty to be an obediant husband and ASK for permission to go. Since I have all my work done she has given me the go ahead. Imagine that, 44 years old, around motorcycles most of my life, and LIVE in South Dakota, and it is my first trip out to Sturgis. Even though I live in SD it will still be a 4 1/2 hr drive. Have the trailer packed and ready, but it looks like monday before i head out. CANT WAIT!!!!
  25. I just pm'd you with some info
