  1. Not to scare you, but watch the Briggs motor. In case you didn't see my post earlier, I had to take mine in to my dealer because it had a gasket go out. Shop mechanic said he has fixed several of them. Replacement gasket is different from original. 180 hours or so on it. I changed oil before first time out this year, and didn't get a tank of gas through it and the gasket went out. Motor runs good, lots of power, just a heads up. I hope you don't have the same luck I did. My mower is a couple years old. Maybe they fixed the gasket problem.
  2. Agree on the Exmark...AWESOME. Local dealer started handling them. When I bought my Dixie, he carried Hustler, and Walker. The Walkers had the deck up front but were liquid cooled and really pricey. The Hustler are good too. A good friend of mine bought a Hustler from them shortly after I bought my Dixie. He loves his Hustler and wouldn't give it up for anything. Come to think of it, I have another neighbor a few miles away with Ferris's commercial mower. He chose that over the Dixie and loves it too. If I go commercial route again in the future it will probably be ExMark or Ferris. Not sure why, but around here there used to be a ton of Dixon mowers. Now you don't see them as much if at all. I had one for a long time. I wonder what happened to them?
  3. This isn't quite half of what we mow, you get the idea.......Room for a lot of tents on the way to Sturgis..........
  4. This was done about 2 weeks ago with the Dixie while the Ferris was in the shop. This is cut at almost 4 inches tall. Maybe this will give you an idea....
  5. I have 2 zero turns. 1. Dixie Chopper Silver Eagle (commercial). 27 hp Generac motor. 60 cut. Bought it in 08, paid a lot for it...... LIKES..... Out in the open it just flies, really eats up the grass. If I remember right, its rated at something like 5 acres an hour....Figure half that, but still it just flies LOVE the Generac motor would have another in a heartbeat. I think the unit has about 600 hours on it. The blades I buy from the dealer who also sells farm equipment. Blades are priced as cheap as the Oregon brand blades on my residential mower. Easy to grease too. Dislikes....The mower itself is tall which poses a bit of a problem when you are mowing under and around trees. 2. Ferris residential mower 61" cut, 27hp Briggs Professional Series Bought in 13. LIKES.....A lot cheaper than the Dixie, less than half price. not as tall, can get under branches better. Mower has suspension rides really well. Deck is a welded steel deck, not a stamped steel deck. Wish it held a little more gas, but not bad. Obviously not as fast, but does quite well. Spreads grass better than the Dixie when blades are a bit dull. Pretty easy to grease, not as good as Dixie, but not bad either. When I mow, I usually pick this mower and let my son run the Dixie. It is more comfortable to me Dislikes.......The Briggs and Stratton Professional Series Motor. STAY AWAY from it. I just got my mower back out of the shop. Had a gasket go out of it at 180 hours. You could see the oil running across the engine mount plate. Mechanic told me that it is common for these motors. He said Briggs issues a different gasket when they replace them, but wont admit the motor has a problem. It should be good now though after almost 375 bucks. I will look at Ferris again when it comes time to get another mower. It just wont have a Briggs and Stratton. And Don, in my opinion, that is a ton of hours on a zero turn. When you look at how fast you cover ground, that is a lot of grass through your machine. We mow wide open, and my farmstead is almost 20 acres. I bet we mow about 12 acres every time. One mower it takes 4 1/2 hours. 2 mowers just over 2.....So on our 2 mowers we have about 800 hours....that's ALOT of grass. Whatever you decide, in my opinion a welded steel deck with a zero turn is a must. A stamped steel deck is asking for trouble with some of the speed they mow at. It would be pretty easy to roll the front edge of a deck under if you accidently hit something.... Forgot to add....The Ferris model is a IS 500Z
  6. How about a pinstriper writing Tweeks II on it? Maybe up on the fairing below the throttle on right side where you can look down and see it while you are riding. And to keep the special stickers alive, put them on the inside of your bags so every time when you open them up it reminds you of a great memory.

  9. Congratulations! Great day for a wedding/anniversary. My wife and I are celebrating 27 years today.
  10. The second pic showing the Broken Spoke building is pretty cool. The first road running along side the highway takes you up to the building and comes into the side of it. The grass strip in between the other 2 is the parking lot. Vendors set up along both sides of the grass and you park there. The first road taking you to the side of the bar actually goes through the bar. You enter from the side, and follow the yellow lines on the floor. They curve and you come out the front of the bar and park into the parking lot. It is pretty neat and kind of fun. Everybody gets to see your bike when you come through. When you get through the bar they have attendants that show you where to park. I forgot to add, the grass strip in the middle of the parking lot also had the big outdoor stage set up on it.......
  11. I had heard rumor in the past that the Broken Spoke was for sale. Rumor was that the owners did real well up in the ND oilfields and didn't need the headache. It seems to stay pretty full considering it is quite a ways north of Sturgis now. Come to think of it I also heard it was offered to some church to use as a youth camp. But you know how it is, you hear a lot of stuff. How much of it was actually true is anybody's guess.
  12. I ended up giving them 30 bucks. They did a good job and actually carried them through the house to get to a wider door rather than going the shortest route.
  13. I've bought all my appliances from this business for at least 30 years. If something goes wrong there wont be any problems. I just want to be fair
  14. Wife is getting a new refrigerator delivered tomorrow. The basement fridge finally gave up. She decided to get a different fridge for the upstairs and move that fridge down the basement. My question is this, should I be tipping the delivery guys? I do have to pay a delivery charge out to the country, plus another 25 bucks to move the upstairs fridge down the basement. Also have to pay a disposal fee of the old one. I am all for being fair to the guys, but I'm already paying extra to have it moved in the first place.
  15. As a farmer I have both gas and diesel fuel on my farm. I usually contract both gas and diesel in January/February. Usually it is the cheapest time of year to do it. I did get the diesel done, however at the time cash price on gas was something like 1.82. Contract price was something like 2.08. Talk about some wiggle room to allow for summer prices to go up. I decided not to do the gas. in a few more weeks I will have room to get some more gas and hopefully make it through most of the tourist season. I contracted gas in February 2015 at 2.28. So that gives you an idea where we were at one year ago at this time. If I remember right diesel was about 2.30 and that is ag diesel, not highway diesel.
