I also think it will come down to Packers/Patriots. I think between the two I would pick the Pats to win it all. No matter who plays for them, they just win. But the longer it goes on the healthier the Packers get, so its gonna be real close.

My mother in law took a fall early this fall. Her ribs kept hurting etc. and she finally went in and had some x-rays etc done. When doing this they happened to find some spots in each lung. They biopsied (spelling?) one right away, and on monday morning went in and removed a very suspicous spot on the other lung. The surgery went well and she is recovering just fine. The results came in this afternoon. It is non cancerous as well. Great news for a person who has been a smoker for many years. The docs attribute the spot/growth to scar tissue etc. as a result of her having pneumonia in the past. So the fall was a blessing in hind sight. Nothing was broken, and she is in better health now. Besides she quit smoking since going to the doctor. What a way to start her retiremnet. Her last day of work was Dec 31st. So thanks to those that let me bend their ear a little bit the last few nights on chat. It was kind of nice having somebody to talk to since my wife was at the hospital with her mother. You just cant talk to your kids quite the same way. So again, thanks guys.....

I got up this morning looked outside and said a few cuss words. waited till about 11 a.m. for the wind to die down. Then I proceeded to get the tractor and snowblower out to move snow for about 3 hours. Am running a little low on diesel fuel so I figured I can do more again tomorrow. I figure I only have about another 4 or 5 hours left.........But what do you expect when you get over a foot of snow with 40 plus mph winds. Welcome to 2011 South Dakota!

At 9:30 a.m. the sun is out and i think it is mostly done snowing. But the wind is still blowing hard. Hopefully it will die down in the afternoon. Then I can get the tractor and snowblower out. Only problem is, my farm is a 1/2 mile away, and I dont think I can get out to my tractor. Just looking out back of the house where there are some spots where it doesnt drift, it looks like anywhere from a foot to a foot and a half of new crap. Gonna be hard to get around for those who like to ice fish now.

What are you doing right now to bring in the new year?

Yawning! -
I was gonna say ice cream. I consider that an accessory!

Someday Id love to come down there. But to be honest I can get that 40C [104F] right here in SD. All I gotta do is wait awhile. South Dakota's weather is never boring, just wait a bit, it'll change. But I gotta admit, it might be fun experiencing 104 degrees somewhere else!

The fog and rain missed us, we got lucky!

Well it is our turn to get the crappy weather. Time to hunker down in doors here in South Dakota. 2 to 5 inches today with another 10 to 12 tomorrow. So far wind gusts of up to 43 mph. Dang it all anyway, now I cant get the bike out..........Ok maybe not. Everybody stay safe and have a great new year! I just threw in the stir the pot deal cause the fire looked warm!

I've had 2 different pairs in the last few years from Travs Outfitters in Watertown SD. Both are a police tactical boot style. The 1st pair is 5.11 brand tactical boot. I really liked it, used it as a work boot around the farm. Comfy like a pair of tennis shoes with alot of protection. I just got a pair of Thorogood brand this summer. these are a taller boot with a side zipper. I like them as well, but not in the summer. They get warm, they have a lot of padding which makes them warmer. I just looked at Travs website and didnt see them listed. But if you go in the store I know they have something. Go to there site, they would have a phone # listed. The boots cost more, I think I paid about 85 bucks or so for the 5.11 brand. Id buy them again in a heart beat.

I talked to another guy I know with a tundra set up like mine, except his is an 07. He said he would be lucky if hes making 14. His has 51000 miles. Im not saying it cant be done but 15 mpg avg is gonna be hard to do. He wont get rid of his because he pulls a 30 foot camper. He said hed never pull the camper with any other gasser as good as the Toyota pulls it. I'd agree with him there, so he says he'll put up with the mileage. Cant have it both ways. He doesnt want a diesel either, too much idle time in the winter. It would be different if it was a truck he pulled every day, so the Toyota works best for him.
-
I own an 08 Toyota Tundra, Love the truck. Hate the gas mileage. Mine is an extended cab (not full 4 door) 5.7 liter 4wd. I now have 56,000 on it. Kinda funny I came across this post. Just today I was running numbers on trading it off. The truck itself I love. The cab noise is virtually nothing. No rattles etc. When you run the A.C. or heater on high, it sounds about like my Dodge's did on low. To me comparing it to a Dodge, there is no comparison. I also had a few Fords (last one in about 05) Nothing bad to say about them either. I am thinking on trading for a Chevy, cause I can get a decent deal. But maybe thats cause the Toyota holds its value. But I just cant handle the 12.5 avg mpg any more. The truck will pull the world, power to spare. Dont want to scare ya with the mileage, maybe mine is the exception. But I will guarantee that not many Toyota 5.7 will avg 15 mpg, city and highway.

I just have to drive a mile down into my river bottom land. Not unusual to see 40 deer a day. cant use feeders though. That is a No No here in South Dakota. Gonna miss opening day though. Gotta go watch my niece and the rest of our high school volleyball team in the state volleyball tourney. We are ranked #1 and have a real good shot at back to back titles. I am really proud of her and the rest of the team, so them deer are gonna have to wait till I get back next sunday...........

My dad tells the story of a neighbor who years ago was coming home from town. Since we live in a rural area along a township gravel road, the neighbor decided to burn the old grass and weeds out of the ditch. Since it was springtime the grass would come back thicker. Anyway he stopped his vehicle, got out a 5 gallon can of gas, drizzled out a tiny bit to get it started. He then moved the can a safe distance away before starting the fire. Before he lit the fire he took off his good dress leather jacket and layed it over the can to keep it out of the dirt. He didnt realize the can had a tiny leak (metal) anyway the fire burnt back to the can catching everything around it on fire. The neighbor wanted to get his coat but was afraid the can would blow. He sat and watched helplessly as the fire burnt the coat right off the top of the can. The can never did blow up, not enough vapor.

my biggest pet peeve is being late. I CANT STAND IT. I usually am 15 minutes early, and my wife would be totally happy if we were 15 seconds early. I have to let her drive when we are going somewhere according to her time schedule. If I drive, I will be looking at some expensive speeding tickets trying to get there. She could care less. They say opposites attract, and they were right in this instance......

If you are going to retire the flag have your local legion post do it. Cleaning it would be cool, and save it. My dad and brother are auctioneers, and there are 2 things they cant sell at public auction. The flag, and the bible. I am glad you are asking what is the right thing to do. I know a guy who has flown his flag upside down since Obama took office in protest. Now I dont want a political debate here. But that is wrong as far as I am concerend. Especially since he was a career military man. Whether you agree with his policies or not, you are disrespecting the military's commander in chief.

Right now in South Dakota harvest is going on strong. Today a friend of mine working at a local grain elevator and had an accident. Somehow he got trapped inside a grain bin full of corn. I heard he fell inside. Luckily 2 other workers were with him and held on to his arms, keeping his head just above the grain. But the pressure of the grain against his body almost suffocated him anyway. The rescue workers got into the bin and got oxygen to him and after an hour finally got him out of the bin. I know he is bruised and beat from the grain against his body, but there is a father who is going to be able to go home to his wife and 2 young sons tonight or tomorrow depending on the hospital. If a man had 9 lives like a cat Chad used 8 of them today. It doesnt happen very often when a person becomes trapped in a grain bin that they come out alive. God was watching out for Chad and his family today.........

I live up here in Corn country, and there are several stations where you can select the amount of ethanol you want in your fuel. Besides unleaded, and 10%, there is 30% etc, all the way up to E85. These pumps are called blender pumps. I know a few guys who have experimented with different rates in their pickups for a long time. They say that of course the mileage drops off a bit for the 10%, but the 30% blend is where the dollar savings come in. The mileage is almost identical to 10%, but the price savings offsets the drop in mileage from regular unleaded. They said they havent had any mechanical issues either. These are later model pickups 07's or newer.
