You have to do something about the day/date/time markings on your picture. It totally messed up pic #6.........

I dont care what brand you ride, all bikes have some drawbacks. When you are buying new, the prices of all of them are high. When you are buying, dont make compromises to save a few bucks here and there. The bike should speak to you and touch something inside. When you come across that bike, you'll know it. Doesnt matter if its a wing, venture, victory, or HD. Ya Done GOOD. Nice color.......

I own the road glide custom, different seat, no trunk, lowered suspension, and short windshield. The stock seat on my '11 is surprisingly comfy, I did have to change windshields though. I actually would test ride both the ultra and the custom if you are riding mostly single, not as much 2 up. alot of guys take a custom and add the tourpack etc. But then you dont get intercom, cb etc. But the ride is a bit different. If you do decide on a road glide sometime, there is a site for them just like this one. The people are ALMOST as friendly. Lots of info to be picked up there if you do. Try Roadglide. org. Hope this helps.

I put a set of fishtails on my RSTD once. I ran them for a couple of months. They were aftermarket HD pipes from V-Twin Mfg. They were a touch long for my RSTD but looked ok. I gotta tell you, it doesnt get any worse than a set of fishtails on the V-4. It sounds like a small block chevy, which does sound nice. But the sharp crack from the fishtails makes it unbearable. I gave them to a friend on a HD Streetglide for free just to take them off my hands. Them S.O.B's were the loudest Ive heard on any bike, but sound pretty good on his glide. My neighbor was sitting on his deck one night listening to me drive away. He said he could hear me going through the gears plain as day at 3 to 4 miles away. He just laughed and said it was like I was still in his yard. Good thing I was out in the country.

Glad you found something that you like! If I can steer you in the right direction on something, just let me know. Alot of guys start spending the money on the exhaust etc. Do some research if you are ever thinking on this, There is a place in Wisconsin that sells full systems that are reasonably priced as far as the HD things go. The place is called Fuel Moto and is located in Little Chute Wisconsin. Might be worth checking into for you. Otherwise have fun http://www.fuelmotousa.com/about_us.htm

I am so sorry to read this Mark. As my parents are definately in their twilight years, I often catch myself wondering how much time we have left together as well. Its a tough thing to experience I'm sure, losing both so close together. I wish I was closer so I could buzz on over and tell ya this in person, but this will have to do for now. I'll be thinking of you. Bernie

A couple of posts have talked about air compressor noise. I have a 32 x 40 farm shop with a 16 foot door. The shop door is open most of the time, and the compressor noise isnt as bad because compressor is real close to the door. I have a 60 gallon upright compressor, and I know of a few neighbors that have taken their compressors and routed the exhaust outside and put on a muffler to help quiet them down. Muffler is mounted horizontally, and they add a rain cap off a tractor muffler on it to keep the birdnests out of it when not in use. Works pretty good, a lot quieter all around.

I like the looks of that. That trunk is closer to matching the style of the side bags than any others I have seen. Ya done good!

Thats cool, the RG look isnt for everybody. Just thought i'd throw that out there in case you havent checked em out.

Check out the Road Glides, I am 6 foot and 265 pounds. I love it, fairing is farther away and it makes it more roomy. Great big guys bike!

Whether we like it or not, I think Yamahas focus isnt on the big tourer. Its on dirtbikes and atvs. They have sat on their hands for so long with the design that they are tied to it. Honda went the other way with the wing, and have a good bike. But how many wings do you see compared to a HD? If Yamaha is going to try to pick off a piece of the market that is held by these two companies, which do you think they'd copy? Picking off a few of the HD riders with a strat makes more sense than trying to design something that will compete with the wing. Its a good thing Yamaha has some dedicated venture backers, and the v-4 is still one of the best kept secrets in the motorcycle world. But its a shame that Yamaha didnt keep progressing the platform so more people knew it. I am afraid that we may see the end of the venture as we know it, and it sucks........ I talked to a regional rep for yamaha at Sturgis 2 years ago. They had all their bikes sitting out for people to see, including the new strat with the fairing. But NO Venture anywhere to be seen. I asked him why no venture? He couldnt really answer me, and we talked for awhile about the end of the RSTD etc. I told him I was looking forward to seeing the new Venture, he asked if there was anything else he could show me, and I said "Yeah another brand.....". They killed off my model and couldnt bring their best tourer to Sturgis for people to see. Pretty much said it all to me, so its not surprising that I have a HD. But I still like this site and all of you guys!

My experience with the HD is this. I agree 100% on the floorboard position, its in too far. But for about 30 bucks you can get floorboard spacers to move them out more. Which I havent done yet and have been meaning to do. The handlebar issues the origional poster had with the ultra, some people have had with the road glides as well. I did some research before I bought my RG and had my bars changed when I bought it. I changed to a different style of HD bar that cost 79 bucks, problem solved. It gave me about 1 1/2 inches in height but more importantly 2 inches more pullback. The most expensive thing for me is the windshield. The 5 inch tall shield on the RG's looks good, but not practical for long rides. Once I got that taken care of I got a real winner. I have ridden a batwing a few times before and admit I feel cramped with the fairing right in my face. Not an issue with the RG at all. It is a great big guys bike, and if I remember right my RG (Custom) sits about 1 1/2 inches lower than my RSTD does. I like the ride so much better on the RG that I only put 17 miles on my RSTD last year, might have to think about selling it. So if you guys are test riding HD's try a Road Glide. A few fairly inexpensive adjustments can make them a really sweet ride. When I think of things I'd need to do to make my RSTD more comfy for me, it is almost the same thing other than the footboards. For me the RSTD "Beach style" bars leave me with a neck pinch after about 100 miles. Ideally I would change them out if I continued to ride it. Plus I'd need to rework or get a different seat, after 200 miles my butt was shot. So if I figure the cost of a new seat, that would offset the cost the windshield and the board spacers on the HD. Reworking the seat would offset the spacers. So all in all to make the RSTD comfy in the long run would cost almost the same as my RG. So if a guy does some research, he can make some simple cost effective adjustments to his HD. Of course I had to make some adjustments that cost some coin too. But we all have some weak moments.

Why dont you get some of them platform boots with the clear soles filled with water and goldfish. You'd be the coolest biker since the '70's............

I have a Road Glide Custom, which is a lowered bike compared to the Road Glide Ultra. I also have an 08 RSTD. Both have drivers backrests. I changed bars on my RG with a 79 dollar pair of HD bars. The RSTD is stock seat with stock bars. I put 4800 miles on my RG, and 17 on my rstd last summer. No comparison in comfort. Of course a RSTD compared to a venture is night and day as well. I will get a jolt every now and again with the lowered suspension, but its not bad, and it doesnt vibrate when you get it rolling. The thing that strikes me most when reading my own post is this. I need to get out more, only 4817 miles in one summer? I need to start slacking off more!

The stocks were the Bridgestones.

I have the 404's on my RSTD. I cant really say anything bad about them, Roughly 4000 miles on them as of now. I cant remember where the local shop got them. I do know they ordered them off the net. The 404s are the 1st set replacing the stock tires. So comparing them to other brands I cant say good nor bad. Anything is an improvement over stock.

Apparantly the Jets didnt read Tebows contract until after they agreed to take him. OOPS. The Jags read it, and that kept them out of it to begin with. I saw earlier that the Rams might jump in now. As for the Saints, If you were doing this for 3 years, and were told by the league to stop, and didnt. You deserve what you get. People might say it is excessive punishment, but how many unnecessary injuries or concussions may have been a result of this. How many players lost money or perhaps had a career cut short, We probly wont ever know.

Love the quote in the picture.....

Wherever Tebow goes it will have its problems. Although he has displayed tremendous heart etc., he is still an option qb. Which in itself presents problems with personel etc. Add a fan base that is extreme in itself (he can do no wrong), there better be no qb controversy at all. If a team wants to pick him up as a backup for insurance against injury, the starter will be put in a bad position from the get go. It will be interesting to see where he will go. Personally other than Jacksonville, I dont see many takers.....

Looks like Denver.....

Oaklands image of the castoffs/rebel "just Win Baby" may be enough to take them out of the hunt.
-
Another thought on the Vikings. Probly toughest division top to bottom. Green Bay, Detroit, Chicago. All of them are better, no chance at playoffs with the Vikes
-
The Vikings are also rebuilding. Just released Hutchinson and Hererra, both offensive guards. Going to have to draft or sign free agents to help them. So I dont see them being a serious contender either.
-
Remember this as well, sure Tebow won 6 in a row and got them to the playoffs. But he also lost 4 of his last 5, with the exception of the Pitts. game which Pitts wasnt real smart in. The end of the season, he lost every game where he had to face a team for the 2nd time, including the Chiefs and the QB he replaced. Im sure Denvers management and coaches are well aware of it.
