I have a toyhauler, its a us cargo enclosed trailer with the front 14 feet converted with a walk through door. Its heavy...26 ft. long and a bumper pull. My 3/4 Dodge will pull it ok, but I use an equalizer hitch anyway. It keeps it nice and level because clearance is an issue. I would hate to drag some of the sewer drains etc. That would be a crappy deal to say the least. It even has rollers underneath to keep from dragging the frame. When doing the toyhauler thing, pay attention to storage. Those wide open units are good, but they usually lack storage. If a 5th wheel would work, I would say go for it. I have a couple of friends that purchased 28 foot fifth wheel ultralites, and pull a small aluminum enclosed trailer with the bike inside. Here in SD you can do that. They like the set up. Not much different than all the 5th wheels pulling boats behind them.....

I would guess they would change to heavy duty truck tires (10 ply sidewalls), and add overload springs. Not ideal, but some do it. Gearing in the rear end wouldn't be a runaway in hilly country, but I've seen it done. I used to antique tractor pull, old timer I pulled with had a 5th wheel trailer with 3 tractors on it. Total weight of about 14000 pounds of tractors. He had 10 plys, overloads on a 1/2 ton ford with a 5.4 motor. Wasn't a runaway in the hills but he never complained. Matter of fact he said he got along good. The guy farmed all his life and never had a 3/4 ton. He just added overloads if he needed them.

For me it is basically just life getting in the way. Being a farmer, summer is obviously the busy time. My boys are trying to get established as well. I now currently farm almost double what I did 5 years ago with the same equipment. More time getting to the crops, but more importantly, more time fixing stuff. But the biggest problem for me and why you don't see me at any gatherings is that my wife wont ride with me. Its hard to take extended time off without her. She does come out to Sturgis for a few days I the car, and I get a few on the bike by myself. But other than that, I cant expect to take off more time in the summer without her and the family. I still have a 13 year old at home as well. So I get Sturgis and a few short rides during the summer and that's it, but ill take what I can get. Just got to thinking, my bike is a 2011 and I put 5500 miles on it the first year. It now has about 13500 on it. I ride less and less each year. Trying to help the boys get started in the farming game really takes a lot of time, but it is well worth it.

I guess since I finally finished vacuuming the sofa, tomorrow I'm going to throw caution to the wind and replace the bag on the vacuum--- (I don't want to rush it)

Parking lot at Spur Creek Saloon is gravel. Last year owner put some pea rock/shale over the top. I suppose with weddings and such it helped with mud on dress shoes and gowns etc. I know we mentioned it to one of the hired men and he said we were not the first guys on bikes to say something. So hopefully he doesn't throw down a bunch more pea rock before the rally this year. I was out there 3 different times last year during the rally and got along fine, a guy just needs to pay attention. It wasn't terrible bad, but I understand the concern.

We meet at the Blue Line Diner in Newell for pie and ice cream sometime during the rally. Newell is 26.2 from Sturgis when you Google it. Hence the 26.2..... I think people would like the Spur Creek Saloon as well. It is a log cabin style bar on a working cattle ranch. They do a lot of parties and weddings as well. Cool place

Glad you had a good experience. I love mine, I just wish I had more time to ride. And Puc is right with the aftermarket stuff. I just sold my touring seat to a neighbor and bought a seat to help with my tailbone issues. There is always somebody looking to buy accessories if they don't quite work out the way you want, and if you can think of something that will help out your bike, it has already been made.

if I'm going to replace the side by side with the 4 wheeler, I'd probably go new. Around here buying a used 4 wheeler can be a crap shoot. You never know, some of them have had a hard life on some cattle ranches....

I need some input on the Yamaha Grizzly and Kodiak 4 wheelers if any of you have any experience with either one. My Kawasaki side by side went down and it will be very expensive to fix considering it is 7 years old already. I'm to the point where it might be money well spent just to move on from the Kawasaki. I am not familiar with either of the atvs, but the Kodiak is the cheaper of the 2. The Grizzly is an awesome atv though, and it may be worth it to go that route. But the Grizzly is getting pretty high priced. I know that this isn't the best place for this exact question, but I value the opinions on this site. Besides its about a Yamaha Thanks in advance And Puc, if you were closer, I'd get all the Kawasaki parts and just let you have at it.......

I had to replace my battery yesterday afternoon and I put my stock seat back on to see how much different it felt. The back of the seat isn't as high or as straight up and down as my touring seat. It doesn't push as bad against my lower back. Actually my backrest seems to match up better to the stock seat too. I just had time this morning to jump on and go about 10 miles to check it out (we have company for the 4th so I couldn't be gone long). Stock seat doesn't have as much padding, but right now it may be a better option. My wife had back surgery 2 years ago and has a tens unit. I may try that as well while I ride to see if that will help me out some. It is worth a try.

I almost ordered it the other day, but the price is awful steep considering it is not my tailbone per say that is giving me trouble. I did sit on one at a demo in Sturgis a few years ago and it is comfy. The seat was developed for the owner of the company who had broken his tailbone in a accident. It puts all the pressure on your pelvic bones instead of your tailbone and prostate. Looks good in theory and they say it works. It isn't the most pleasant looking seat, but if it works, who cares what it looks like... The name of the seat is Cycepedic and it is sold by Rush

Need some advise on pain from seat while riding.... This goes back to February when my family and I went to my nephews wedding in Denver (about 700 miles). I guess my backside didn't agree with the seats in my wife's vehicle. It basically feels like a bruised tailbone only a bit higher, basically right below the belt line. a few weeks ago I finally had time to get in to my chiropractor and he said my sacrum needed adjustment and after 2 adjustments in 2 weeks I think it has helped. 2 weeks ago I went for a ride and I literally couldn't sit on my bike for 35 miles and I had to stop,I was done. Today I made about 150 round trip with 3 stops. So it is improving. I did do a lot of shifting around to help relieve some of the pressure and would keep one foot on a board and the other on a highway peg so I could get the pressure off of the sore spot. But after 20 minutes it wasn't real fun. My seat is very good. I've had it for 2 years and it is in good shape. It is a HD "Hammock" seat. Last year I could put in a 400 mile day easy if I wanted too. As soon as I slouch a bit (doesn't matter if I use backrest or not) I get the pressure from the seat back hitting me just right and it is a real buzz kill.... So I guess I am looking for any tricks that might help me ride a little bit until this passes. I took ibuprofen before I left on the ride this morning and it didn't help one bit. I would hate to have to park the bike for an extended time, because I don't think this is going to clear up in a few days. I don't think there is a bun burner 35 mile award...... thanks in advance.....

Hey Puc, about rule 6. My insurance guy told me awhile ago to never swerve if you are more than likely to hit an animal. In my case that would probably be a deer. Hitting a deer is a no fault accident and your rates shouldn't go up. This happened to a friend of mines son, he swerved, hit the ditch, and rolled. He ended up ok. But when the cops came and he explained what happened, there was no deer there because he missed it and it ran off. So there was no proof that a deer caused it. Now it becomes reckless driving, a fine, and your insurance rates go up. Not to mention you are looking for a new car. Sorry for the hijack, but we could all learn from that, not just a 16 year old

I cant breathe through my nose hardly at all. Not so much allergies, but I fractured my nose twice in high school. Lets just say my nose leans a little to the left now and isn't quite centered.....Been putting up with it for over 30 years. But I do notice that I am starting to get some allergies as I get older. I do have a bottle of Nasocort and it seems to work. I have only used it a few times and it seems to work for me.

My daughter just passed her drivers ed. class. She will be able to get her license in October when she turns 14 here in South Dakota. The first 3 months she has to drive with either my wife or myself in the car. After that she can drive from sun up until sun down until she turns 16. Then she can go on her own with no limitations. She is the 3rd and last kid in our family so I am used to it. We are pretty rural here, and the thing that worries me most is her swerving to miss a deer and hitting the ditch....

This is what I ended up with. Ruger American in .204, Weaver 3x9x40 scope, bipod, and sling. All the extras I had laying around. I won the bipod as a door prize at a fire dept. raffle last winter. So if tomorrow works out, I'll try and get it sighted in. The Weaver might have to get changed out later, but for now it will work.....

I thought about the 22-250 as well. My dad had one growing up, and I shot it a lot. My son already has one from his other grandpa who passed away. and we already have at least 3 .243s which is basically a step up from the 22-250. I already have a 25-.06 as well. We use the .243s and 25.06 on deer and they work well. I figured the .204 would be a nice fit between the .243 and the .17 hmr, and if I need a 22-.250 I can always borrow my sons.

We had a 17 x 29 "Splash" brand with a deck built around it. We left it at old house when we sold it, it helped sell the old house. I built up the spot with dirt making sure that there was no debris or small stones in it etc. Then I used a 1 /8th inch thick foam pad that came with it as an underlayment. It work well enough. I had heard that if you use sand, kids jumping around etc. can push sand to edges and leave an uneven floor/bottom, which is no big deal unless you use an automatic pool cleaner which can get hung up on an uneven bottom. As far as chemical, we used chlorine. a puc or 2 in the skimmer (16000 gallon pool) and then we used a product called EZ Pool. It was easy to use. So many scoops per thousand gallons, once per week. At first we used the test strips and all that, but once we got the routine down we tested less and less. After awhile we never had to test because we knew what it would show. Its been 3 years since we moved and I'm not sure if they make the EZ Pool anymore, but there must be another product like that. EZ Pool is all your other chemicals all in one.....

Question..... I won a Savage BMag .17 WSM on a benefit raffle the other day. After doing some reading on the net, I'm not so sure I shouldn't get a different gun. I go in to the dealer and fill out paperwork, so I can switch to a different gun and pay the difference if I want. The savage seems to have some problems and I already have a .17HMR as well. Do any of you have a .204 Ruger, and if so, how do you like it. I already have a .223 but it isn't set up to be a good varmint gun. I don't know many guys that shoot a .204 so any help would be appreciated.

Don, something to consider going to the 61". you said neighbors is much flatter ground. If you have knobs etc. going from 42 or 48 inch up to 61 inch deck may cause some scalping on some knobs. It will only happen once though After you get it levelled off its all good. I was surprised going from an old 42 inch Dixon up to Dixie 60 inch. I scalped in a few spots I never would have thought about. If yours was a 52 inch before, it would probably be fine though.
