I gotta stop "Collecting", but I guess its ok since i was donating to a worthy cause. I didnt expect to win. I was hoping to win some bacon on some paddle wheel drawings, but I guess I will have to settle for the gun instead. I know what you mean about the 22-250, we have two of them, one was my dads, and the other was given to my oldest son. It was my father in laws. I usually use a .243 when deer hunting, and never had any troubles with it not being enough gun to do the job. So I know the 25-06 will be even better in that capacity.

I won a rifle the other night at a fundraiser. It was a Winchester model 70 30-06. Nice rifle but I already have a 30-06 at home. So I went to pick up the gun in a different caliber today, and I decided I wanted a 25-06. The dealer I was at didnt have a 25-06 in stock of course, and it isnt real common. It also is backordered and I dont know when I would be able to get it. So looking on line I narrowed my choice down to a Ruger M-77, a Rem 700 stainless with the laminate stock, and the Savage 111 BTH (Thumb Hole laminate). I thought the thumbhole in a 25-06 would make one heck of a varmint gun, as well as a nice whitetail gun, so I took a chance and had him order it. So did I do ok with the Savage? Any of you hunters have the 111? I know with the Accu Trigger it should be good, but dont necessarily like taking a blind chance on a gun.......Guess I'll find out one way or the other......Kinda wish they had the Winchester in stock, that was a nice weapon.

I heard the Vikings radio announcer say at the conclusion of the game the other night. Seattle has the 2nd best home winning percentage in the last 10 years. 2nd only to the Packers. I knew they were good at home in the last 5 years or so, but wouldnt have guessed it went back 10 years. AFC Steelers are good this year, Patriots should be there at the end, Houston will be there, and dont count out Denver. Denver is getting better every week. NFC Giants, Falcons, 49ers, and Bears all have a shot. As for Dallas.......I think Jerry Jones will be remembered as the guy who ruined Americas Team. Dallas has steadily declined since Jones took over.......... The Vikings are showing their true colors. Overachieved early, offense struggles. Although I live in Vikings terrritory, I have 2 favorite teams. 1 is Denver Broncos, and 2 is whoever the Vikings play that week. I will predict a Bronco/Bears superbowl. and a Bears Victory.

Just used a purolator on my Ford pickup. I didnt feel like driving across town to get the Car Quest last time. But I do use The Car Quest Premiums on my bike. Only filter I have used since the bike was new.

The reason I dislike the Yankees is that they were always the ones that pick off the high priced talent from the other teams. Seems like most other teams pick up one or two. Yankees fill the whole roster.....In basketball it was always the Lakers and Celtics. I wasnt a fan of either of them as well. But if you are a Yankees fan, you had to love Steinbrenner, he'd do what it took. And speaking of Steinbrenner theres another reason people dislike them. Its kind of like Jerry Jones and the Cowboys, if you like Dallas, you like Jerry more or less. If you hate Dallas you really dont like Jerry Jones.

Thats why I was referring more so to the A's and the Orioles..........
-
Nothing wrong with the Tigers at all. Year in and year out its not a shock when the Tigers get in. Its been awhile since we've seen the Orioles in the postseason though. The A's werent really expected to be there either.
-
Apparently the Harley Davidson in me made me say it............
-
Sorry Yankees fans I dont feel your pain. Only thing better would have been to see the Orioles pull it off instead. Its nice to see that money doesnt always buy everything. But it would have been cool to see the A's or Orioles go through. Gotta love the underdogs.....

Glad to see you had a nice day!

You are correct with the vibration at high speed low RPM's though. Thinking back on it, my salesman told me to keep the RPM's at 3000 or so in 6th gear (about 75 mph). He called it a good interstate gear. He said if you drop below that in 6th you'll notice that it seems to chug or lug a bit. That must've been what you felt.

as far as the aftermarket accessories to help make your ride better. I own a RG Custom, not the Ultra. 2 things stuck out immediately in your review. 1 is the neck pinch from the stock bars, and 2 is the position of the footboards. I've done 2 mods for this. 1st is the HD "Heritage bars". They give you 2 inches more height, and 2 inches more pullback for a price of 80 bucks. The other was some floorboard extensions. They moved the boards out an inch or so, makes a big difference for about 35 bucks. Its too bad you didnt have some highway pegs to stretch out on. I'd say your review is pretty good, the only other thing I would say is about the saddlebags, Yamahas may be wider, but the latch mechanism on the Yamaha gets in the way sometimes. The HD's is much nicer to load, although you better be sure its latched properly. I've had mine come open a few times, so I now lock it shut to prevent it from happening. My bike does not have the vibration at the higher speeds like yours did though. But I damn sure have that faint vibration at idle........

After 23 years we say goodbye to our old house. Its going to be different, considering we are only moving 1/2 mile away. Its going to be nice out here at the family farm again, but I am going to miss our old home. Lots of memories and 3 kids there. But we will make memories here as well.

Congratulations!

Sorry I missed you Bob. Between harvest going on and no internet, t.v., or phone, I've been oblivious to the outside world. Just got the phone and internet going late today, and will have tv tomorrow. Take care and have safe travels the rest of the way. I hope my state was hospitable to you, and that it lived up to what you thought it would be! Bernie

I bought a 2011 Road Glide Custom 2 years ago. Best thing Ive done in a long time. No desire to ride my RSTD anymore (son rides it). Not bashing the RSTD or Yamaha at all. But the fit for me is much better on the HD. I would consider the Road Glide Ultra vs. the Custom if I did it again mainly for wind protection. But I like the Custom because its lowered. Guess I will have to add lowers to my custom and change my air breather if I want to eliminate more wind. Most of all its nice to have all the options, factory or aftermarket if I do want to make those changes. If anybody is thinking HD, check out the Road Glides with the fixed fairing. It is the hottest selling HD touring bike right now I would bet. The word is out on how nice the fixed fairing rides. The handling is superb, but all you 1st genners probly have inside knowledge on that.

The key word in your comment is "uninformed", and that isnt necessarily the peoples fault. That goes right back to Yamaha itself. They make no attempt to promote a good machine, I bet most people dont know that Yamaha makes a big full blown cruiser. They probly dont know anything at all about the Royal Star line. For that matter they probly dont know much of the Suzuki big bikes either. I would bet if you ask the public about motorcycles they would tell you about 2 or 3 brands. HD, Honda, and Victory. Throw in the Can-Am because of the commercial with the biker wave as they are riding the coast line. When a guy rides a "niche" bike like the Venture/RSTD you can expect those things. When I did ride my RSTD. people would come across the lot right away to look at it, not because it was "cool", but to try and figure out what it was. When they saw it up close, they liked it. And if you want to make them run over to you, put some aftermarket pipes on your bike and start it up in the lot and let it warm up for awhile. The sound will draw them over for alot closer look! They know right away that it aint no Harley!!!!!

I have a '11 road glide custom, and an 08 rstd. Since I have bought the HD, I have put a total of 17 miles on my rstd (my son rides it now) in 2 years. I havent had a problem with my HD yet, and I have done some mods. as far as comfort mods I changed the handlebars (80 bucks) and went through 2 windshields till I found the right one. The ride on the Road Glide is second to none for me. I can go all day on the stock seat etc. I cant say the same with the Rstd. First year I had my Rstd, the nylon fabric strap in the bag hinge came apart leaving all the hardware down in the bottom of the bag. Havent had anything on my HD come apart yet. And yes you should see more of the HD's on the side of the road, theres a bajillion of them sold (nice number dont ya think.) I have noticed with the HD's, most everybody tinkers with them, cams etc. They just cant leave em alone. When they tinker with the motors there goes the reliability. Part of it I think is 1-performance of course, and 2-make the bike their own,try to set themselves apart. When they pull into a parking lot theres 20 other HD's, a Venture/RSTD pulls into same lot, hes the only one there. If Yamaha had a lot more options and accesories(especially aftermarket), I would have done things to my rstd as well. It was not comfy for me to ride at all. Matter of fact, as long as I own this road glide, I will never ride my rstd again, I never realized how much better a bike can sit, and how much the rstd didnt fit me. Yes there are a few options for the rstd, but I made some mods, and they were makeshift mods that I made fit from something else etc. Its nice to have all the availability to do what you want. The sky is the limit. And yes it does cost more no doubt, but I aint complaining of a sore backside and neck pinch after 150 miles either. As far as the high cost goes, if I didnt ride bike, I probly would fish, I havent priced a Ranger, or a Lund Walleye boat with the 150 hp Merc, the 9.9 kicker motor, electic trolling motor, and the fancy fishing graph lately. I bet I'm getting a good deal on my HD compared to the fishing thing. Besides I can ride to a DQ, dont think I've ever seen a boat trolling through the drive thru. Lastly, I am not trying to come across as a HD "elitist", just some observations I have come across since owning both brands. If I were an "elitlist" I would've left here a long time ago. And I have a few friends who constantly bash my bike calling it a "Hardley"etc. Its OK I am a big boy I can take it. But if they would really take a look at what they are constantly doing to me, they arent any different than the HD snobs they always bash.

This is kind of my last hope. This and the fact that my boys are riding now (20 and 17 years old). I'm going to attack this from the "something we can do as a family" and hope she starts to enjoy herself. Maybe it will change her outlook and turn her into a "motorcyclist", she doesnt have to be a "biker".........Heck i'd even settle for short rides to the Dairy Queen together!

I found a nice used toyhauler, so I took the plunge. I'm hoping I can get the wife to come along to some of the places I normally ride like Sturgis. It sure would would be nice to spend some of that time with her. I can do a little riding while out there. But since she wont ride at all, its my only chance. Heres a few pics. Its a 2005 26 foot U.S. Cargo. Its heavy, so I added a equalizer/anti sway hitch as well. Should be fun!

The road is fixed, they used hot mix to patch the holes. The only problem is our county highway dept. is a sorry excuse for one. They patch and dont do the best job smoothing the patch, so it gets a bit bumpy. As far as the speed on the road, I drive it at least 5 times a week. I was looking ahead at some of the existing patches to get my line when I went by the turtle. Its not that you couldnt drive over the patches, it just is a better ride if you can go around them some of the time. The whole road is scheduled to be resurfaced and has been for at least 5 years. But the county is broke because of all the flooding we have had in past years. Many of our roads are in disrepair. Heck before they patched the holes, they filled them with gravel. That made it a 30 mph road in my truck. You couldnt drive it at all on a bike.

I missed that turtle by about a foot. The more I thought about it, the more scared I got. I didnt have time to be scared till after it happened. Same thing happened on way home fro Sturgis. I was heading east in the morning looking into the sun. I was in the Mud Butte area west of Faith SD following a couple of cars tooling along at 75 mph. This area usually has antellope so I was really looking to the sides trying to find some. I glanced to the side and didnt see anything, and looked back ahead and caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye. There were 4 mule deer standing on the side of the road facing the ditch looking over their backs at us as we drove by. I cant even tell you if any of them were bucks because they went by so fast. They were less than 20 feet from me. The cars must not have seen them either because they never hit their brakes either. Awhile later I was at some road construction and another bike came up. While waiting for the pilot car I asked him if he'd seen the mulies. He said "Holy ****, I drove right by em and they didnt move. Scared the heck out of me." I said "I know the feeling!"

I was riding my bike today and almost went down. I was going down the county highway which is in bad need of repairs. Lots of potholes that have been patched with hot mix. The road is rough etc, and the hotmix is a dark black compared to a light gray from the rest of the highway. I was going along driving through the rough patches, when I came over a hill down through a river bottom with water on both sides. For some reason I decided to dodge around one of the dark patches at about 70 mph. I happened to look down beside my floor board as I went around it and I noticed that it moved. It wasnt a black pothole, it was a snapping turtle! The movement was the turtle jerking his head back into his shell. He was about 18 inches in diameter, and I think if I wouldve hit him I wouldve went for a nasty ride, most probobly not on the bike. The top of his shell wouldve been at least a foot tall. I've dodged a lot of things riding, but never a snapping turtle.
