When I was a kid, my parents had an artificial x-mas tree. When my mom would set up the tree, I would use the box. I drew dials and stuff on the inside so I had my submarine. I played in that same box every year for about 5 years. After a day or so it kind of got old, so it worked out great. Something new again every year.
  2. I cant think about the end on friday. I have too much to worry about. I'm worried that the Y2K thing is still going to reach up and bite me yet.........
  3. Since its crappy out, nothing on tv, I figure I'll hang out in chat for a bit if anybody feels like b.s'ing
  4. I have 2 of them. Both are different brands. I guess I never looked at the electricity bills etc. to see how much they cost to operate in my old house. I liked them because they were a pretty safe heating solution. A lot of the portable heaters I would not want to leave the room unattended with them. I used one of these in my old house's bedroom and never worried about it at all. My bedroom needed better ducting, and this was a good temporary fix.
  5. I think it would help soften up your truck Mark. I had a few 1/2 ton dodges in the past, and I know what your talking about. Could be worth a try. In my own experience I know I have spent more money on stuff more foolishly than this. I read some info online about these things on some of the other forums. Most people that try them seem to like them. But the big thing for me was that I have 3 neighbors (farmers) that use their trucks with bumper pull seed tenders, and 5th wheel trailers. All 3 like them and say they help. Good enough for me. I should add to this that the neighbors run 3/4 tons. They say that their is no difference in what they can pull, and that the ride when empty/normal is much better. Also, one drives a chevy, one a ford, and one a dodge. Dont know why it wouldnt help a 1/2 ton.
  6. Thought I'd pass along a helpful product that I came across. I just bought a Dodge Ram 2500 truck. Needless to say the ride is on the rough side. I had a few friends who put these different spring shackles on the back of their heavy duty trucks. The name of the rubber spring/shackles is called Sulastic. I put about 100 miles on the new truck, and it really chattered on less than perfect roads. After putting them on, I drove another 50 miles down some rough snowpacked roads. There is a very noticeable improvement. It says on their website that it wont affect warranties, and or load/towing capacities either. I dont work for the company etc. Just thought I'd pass along something that appears to be a good deal. I think I paid about 380 bucks for the set, plus about 100 to have em installed. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Heres a link https://www.sulastic.com/
  7. My brother has an older Envoy, ton of miles on it now. They passed it down to their oldest daughter, and now its being driven by their younger son. Easily has over 180,000 miles. I dont think they have had many problems with it.
  8. Well I ended my dilemma today. 2012 Dodge 2500 with the hemi instead. I had the Ford deal down to an acceptable offer, but something in my gut just kept telling me that the ford wasnt the truck for me......
  9. lets do the chat thing tonight........
  10. Look at it this way college football lovers. In football, the coaches leave early. In college basketball its the players........What is worse, these colleges having to pay salaries in some instances to coaches who leave, or players who just leave the program early? I know college sports is a business, but it sucks when a school has to pay a coach millions of dollars after he leaves. I also understand that coaches can leave in basketball too. But it doesnt happen nearly as often.
  11. They shouldve given the guy a 10,000 dollar bonus. Then according to their policy let the guy go......for about a month. Then rehire him at a higher wage than before. Treat it like a well paid vacation. Dont know if that would get them around the legalities, and reward the guy like he shouldve been in the first place. I guess I should clarify.......Its a crock that they had to do this to the guy. But if you have to get around the lawsuits, maybe this would be a good way.
  12. Thats what I was wondering. I will be pulling a few different trailers. One will be an 8.5x26 enclosed. Might have to rethink the diesel thing after all. Just thought for the 10 percent of the time I would be pulling I wouldnt need a diesel. Might have to rethink it.
  13. Just tossing around an idea of upgrading to a 3/4 ton truck. I'm going to need one next spring for sure. I stopped at a Ford dealer and drove a F-250 with the 6.2 v8 gasser in it. Seemed like a good package for what little I drove it. I need the suspension etc. but I dont want a diesel. Wont use it enough as a workhorse to want to go full time diesel. I thought about the mileage issues etc. with gas vs. diesel. But adding a reliable 2nd pickup is another expense of licensing and insurance. Not to mention the cost of buying a good used 3/4 ton, would probly make it worth just buying a new 3/4 ton and having one good truck. So I guess I'm asking if anybody has any experience with the 6.2. My other option is going with a Dodge, havent ruled that out either.
  14. My brother and my nephew were sitting the other day and had a doe tag. nice 4X4 buck walks past. Brother got a nice little vid of it. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfyK5HQpraI&feature=share]Wish we had a buck tag instead.............. - YouTube[/ame]
  15. I would guess that there is more expensive stuff that we havent seen. If he spent 5 million to cover his valuables, you can bet that there is more valuable stuff there. Cant let all the criminals see it all in one place.........
  16. Sounds like snowmobile weather. Visit the snowmobile store for some good gear. Stud up one of them Can-Am Spyders, they are 1/2 snowmobiles anyway. Kind of sounds like fun to me. But then again South Dakota gets pretty darned cold. But I bet the scenery up there is alot better!!!!!
  17. My nephew took a nice 5x5 on opening day. My sons havent seen much, and we have prime habitat. Numbers are down here in northern SD.
  18. Looks like you have 2 seats as well? But my main question is this. I have the quick tach sissy bar and luggage rack for my custom. Does the trunk detach system use the same mounts? Here is a pic of mine with the sissy/luggage rack on it
  19. There working all right, probly arguing over which card game to play since they figure the venture is good for a few more years. Probly fighting over if they should play Texas Hold Em', 12 point pitch, Eucher, or Wist......... One could only hope though.
  20. and as far as making changes go with the Venture. If a guy wanted to strip one down like a street glide. 1. How many different seats does Yamaha even offer? I honestly dont know 2. different windshield sizes. I would imagine a few different choices 3. different handlebars. Due to the speedo, those are limited as well 4. quick release tour pack mount from factory. Doubt it, another do it yourself project. 5. if you take tour pack off all together, Does Yamaha make a rear luggage rack that fits rear fender on the Venture? I know the RSTD would fit, but I dont like the luggage rack mount on the rear seat bracket. All of these things are available through HD for their own bikes and many work on other models. So for them to offer the batwing fairing in 3 different options make sense. They already have the parts inventory. Kind of like Legos....... I also understand that if you own a Venture, why would you want to strip it down. I myself probly wouldnt. But this is what the origional post was about. And basically reasons 1 through 5 is why I will never buy another Yamaha. I may buy something other than a HD, but it wont be a Yamaha. My 08 RSTD does just fine like it is, my son rides it and likes it. But in a few years he will get the itch for something else. and it wont be a Yamaha either. I'm not trying to bash Yamaha, but it is the "Here it is, take it or leave it" approach that they have. Now back to the origional post............
  21. Can you buy a new RSTD anymore? I think Not, but my exact point was three different configurations with the same fairing. With the HD you are into the Road King series if you are talking windshields vs. fairing. With the Venture you are talking fairing, Rstd-windshield. Hence my comment here is what we make-take it or leave it. I myself have a RSTD as well. I have done some pretty cool stuff to it too. But basically every add on I have done other than the drivers back rest have been adapted to fit my RSTD. Not exactly made for it. To get a Yamaha a certain way, you kind of have to improvise if you will. HD does alot of that for you, then all you have to do is buy chrome......
  22. No, your not dense at all. I really thought the same as you when I first saw them. I just tried to offer up an explanation as to why some do what they do. But if you think about it HD was smart. Take the street glide.....alot of people want a city, short trip cruiser, or bar hopper if you will. But the key is the radio and hard saddle bags. It gives the rider plenty of storage and comfort for the short mid sized trip. The riding group that they are catering to is huge. So they price their bike where they do because they know it is going to sell. Not only that, the market they cater to isnt necessarily that mechanically inclined, or dont have the space to store bike and all the take off stuff. Other manufactures should take note, the more options, the more you sell. This particular option, less is more (more money too.....). Take a Venture for example. Wouldnt it be cool to get a Venture in 3 different configurations like you can with the HD SG/EG/Ultra. It doesnt cost HD any more or less to offer 3 than just one style. You probly wouldnt get as many sales of the stripped down venture, but a few is better than no sales. It kind of makes you feel like HD is trying to have something for everybody, rather than "heres what we make, take it or leave it." Alot of companies could learn from HD in that capacity......
  23. I was kinda hoping the long pieces would be a bunch of splices/connectors for a Hot Wheels track..........
  24. Just another quick thought. Beings that the 2 bikes are same price, if you wanted the street glide look 90 percent of the time and touring functionality 10 percent of the time, is it worth it to do. Price wise yes of course. But when you figure out prices to convert the quick detatch (about 500 bucks if I remember right), and lower profile seat (325 to 500) and possibly a different windshield (125 to 150). So now you have 1150 bucks or so of extras to get the bike to look like a SG (and I am probly leaving something out). So now you Stripped down EG is a really expensive SG. Yes money wise you are still ahead, but many people dont want to go through the hassle. Most Street Glide Guys just buy a soft touring pack and go on their one trip a year. The EG Classic is a bike that you dont see a whole lot out on the road anyway. If guys are gonna do a full tourer, most want the Ultra for the fulll lowers and rear speakers etc. So HD was smart to offer the SG. The EG is kind of like a jack of all trades and master of none bike. But your origional assment is correct, kind of makes you scratch you head doesnt it.
  25. Alot of guys do convert EG's to Street Glides. They are basically same bike. The main difference is the lowered suspension. They buy a quick detach tour pack mount and make the conversion. It is pretty easy to do because the electra glide classic doesnt have rear speakers like the Ultra Classic does. My Road Glide Custom vs. Road Glide Ultra has a few differences. The biggest is the lowered suspension. Another for me was the color. My bike had a one year offering of my color not available on the Ultra. Another is the pinstriping is very different. Another big visual difference from behind is different taillight assemblies. Road Glide Custom looks much cleaner, doesnt have the big box taillight. Also has a different seat. My Road Glide Custom was cheaper, and I actually weighed my options of stripping down an Ultra. It will cost more to add the extras than to remove them from an ultra, but I like the looks of less better. But if I remember right the Custom was about 2500 to 3000 cheaper. I am sure a few of the Road Glide differences apply to Street Glide/EG as well. But when you look at RG's you have 2 models. low and high end models. With the Street Glide/EG Classic/Ultra CLassic. you have 3. And basically you have a bagger that is short trip bike (street glide). You have the EG thats a no frills tourer (no lowers either). And you have the Ultra Classic with all the bells and whistles. And remember alot of the Street Glide owners dont plan on touring alot with them. HD was smart to offer it that way, something for everyone. They cant help it people arent smart enough to think ahead.
