  1. Reality is......Chat room isnt very busy anymore.....
  2. Today my daughter and I went to a chinese buffet for lunch (daughter is 11). I got her to try some different foods which she has never had before. When we left she told me "I am glad I listened to you today. Otherwise I would have never tried these things!" It was followed by a big smile. The smile is reality.........
  3. Got my snowbucket for my skidsteer a few days ago. Thats the only thing I am going to be riding in the near future. Although it is enclosed with heat, I dont want to ride it all day, so I bought a 10 foot snow bucket.....bike is sitting in my heated garage facing the back wall. I dont want to turn it around so it can see outside. It might get some crazy idea like going out for a ride when its about 10 degrees out......We live near the 6th coldest city in the U.S. according to this website. As a matter of fact, I recognize the trees in the background of the #6 picture. They are the trees that border my farm. That year there were 2 poles that were going down and they had to be replaced....another cold job. http://www.thedailybeast.com/galleries/2010/12/10/america-s-25-coldest-cities.html#slide6
  4. Rifle season opens tomorrow for us in South Dakota. I am away from home rooting for the high school girls volleyball team playing in the state tournament. 2nd year in a row, but its a good problem to have. My oldest son will be at home trying to fill the freezer before I get my chance. I do have some does and yearlings that come up in the farm yard every night. I have been informed that they are pets by my wife and daughter. We will see what my wife thinks of them when we plant some new trees next spring.....
  5. Talking with my insurance guy, he reminded me that you are better off hitting the deer than trying to avoid it. If you try and avoid it and go in the ditch etc. it becomes careless driving. Your insurance premiums will go up if you have to fix it. Just hitting it in the roadway is a no fault accident and your premiums wont increase. A lot safer too.
  6. Raider, most of the stuff posted about other bikes is from members who have made the switch for one reason or another. I am one of them, and I still check this site multiple times a day (way more than any HD site). I've been here for about 5 years and I like the people and the comaraderie, the tech stuff doesnt apply to me anymore. You will see more and more people changing brands just because Yamaha doesnt offer the Venture anymore. Its a great site the way it is, and yeah you will see posts about other brands because it comes from people who have formed friendships over the years and they dont want to see that go by the wayside. If it does, the site we all spend so much time at wont be the same and will suffer in a much worse way.....Good thing winter is coming, chat room has been pretty quiet.

Harvest is over, and I havent been on in awhile......I'm out of the loop as to whats going on. Stop by and clue me in!
  8. according to the map, balloon 4 would have been closest. About 80-100 miles south east of me.......
  9. Parts of the Black Hills got up to 4 feet of snow from what I have read. Here in the northeast part of the state we just had rain, and lots of wind. I had about 1.5 inches. But there are places that are knocking on 4 inches of it. Crazy weather, considering there were tornadoes as well in the southeastern part of the state. Just saw that 48000 customers between Rural Electric, and Black Hills Power companies are without power. Estimates of 24 to 36 hours before they get it back.
  10. Not all of us are followers.....I made the jump in 2011. Back then it was kinda like jumping off a cliff. Now its more like stepping of the curb!
  11. Don should change his name to Rodney (Dangerfield) and name the boat Seafood. But the boat has to have the cool musical air horn.
  12. Neighbor runs them on his HD Ultra Classic. Its an 07, so it is the narrower rear than they run now. He rides 2 up almost all the time, and I think he said he changes in the 8 to 10,000 mile range. I do know he changes with some tire life left though (wouldnt doubt there is still a couple thousand miles left in the tires). He says piece of mind is a good thing rather than trying to stretch tire life, especially with the wife on board. He had a tire go bad on him once on a trip, so he doesnt chance it anymore.
  13. Love the 2nd pic. Parked in front of a no parking sign to get the proper picture.
  14. Sorry to hear. I'm afraid we arent to far away from this same decision at our house. Our dog Tippy is now 16 years old. She doesnt move so well, doesnt hear well, and doesnt see well. As of now her quality of life is still good, but I am afraid of what this winter will bring. She is a house dog, and trips outside wont be easy. My wife is a vet tech and it will be extremely hard on my wife. But my wife knows when the proper time will be. Its going to be hard when it comes, and lately I have been thinking about the day. Not going to be fun at all.
  15. All I know is that this is one of the best thread titles I've seen in quite awhile.
  16. Makes sense, I wasnt paying attention to the location.......
  17. The Ultra Limited must've had some doo dads added for the 31,000? I was looking on the HD site and the Ultra Limited starts out at 25,900, and the Ultra Classic at 23,250. I bet you were drooling over the Limited.........
  18. http://www.fishnfry.com/default.aspx We took the kids out to the hills about 8-10 years ago. Rented a cabin at this campground. We really liked the location, close to Deadwood. Just reading through the website, it says showers etc. Of course the cabin we rented had the showers etc. There were tents camping right beside the stream.
  19. Don, How did the Heritage bars feel? I thought you said that they were what you changed the stock bars over to. Just curious, love mine.
  20. I am Lions Club member. Our club raises money and gives to the Lions International. But most of our money we raise stays local. We are a small community, and the community often looks to us for needs. Community/school kids come first. For example last year we gave alot of money for the elementary schools playground equipment. So when I donate now, I donate to the Lions Club because I know it stays local and the kids get the benefit of it all.
  21. Brian, I've been up Mt. evans in a car while visiting my brother. Good thing he drove....I dont like heights, and I watched a DVD player all the way up and down. I was ok when we stopped. We would get out a few times on the way up and walk around. I could do that, but didnt like the driving. I could face the mountain out the passenger window, but couldnt look out over the countryside and see the dropoffs etc. I loved it up on top. Its kind of neat to see somebodys name or initials written in the snow and its over 3 or 4 years old. Plus you stand and look down at Pikes Peak off in the distance. If I remember right it was 72 degrees at the bottom, and about 37 on top. They told us to watch like mile number 8 for fog.....It wasnt fog, it was clouds. On the way down, we had the van in low, and we stopped a time or two to let the brakes cool. I've had the chance to go to Beartooth every year for the last 3 years on the bike, and I wont go. I am afraid of what I will run into on the bike and dont know if it would be good for me.
  22. Where I live, most everybody waves regardless of what you are riding. Except during Sturgis time. If I waved at every bike I came across in SD during the rally I'd sure as heck crash. Maybe it has something to do with where you live. Midwesterners are usually friendly people to start with. Not saying other areas arent friendly, just that some are more friendly than others... Awhile back I was listening to a local sports radio show. They were talking about a college recruit that made a visit to a small SD college coming from California. He was with his dad and they drove here. When they got to SD his dad started to wave at oncoming vehicles to see what their reponse was. They were surprised by how many returned the waves. By the time they got to the college for their visit, they knew how friendly the area would be and had their minds half made up about coming to the local college. I am pretty sure the kid commited to the college before the end of the visit. They couldnt believe how nice the people were.
  23. I walked through the Indian tent at Sturgis the day after the unveiling. The bike didnt do it for me. I didnt like the new fairing over the old Indian front fender. My initial thought was it reminded me of the visions fairing. The led eybrows just dont go with the fender styling in my opinion. Same with the rear bags, the lids look like they are flimsy and I dont like how they look when closed. I think Indian is real close with this bike though, a few cosmetic changes to make everything flow together better and it will be a home run. Perhaps all they need to do is figure out a better bag lid, and maybe ditch the traditional front fender keeping the Indianhead light for nostalga. But as it is, it isnt quite right...close, but not quite right. Now the Indian Chief or whatever they call it, that is a nice bike. The leather bags and styling are old school Indian all the way I didnt talk to any reps about the engine etc. I just couldnt get past the fairing. I'm sure they ride nice.
  24. Phoneman1981 might still be there. He is from Scottsbluff Nebraska (pretty close). He might have an idea.
