  1. If I remember right, my friend had to get a card that had extremely high interest to start out. Visas etc wouldn't take him. Only after a year or so did he acquire enough of a rating to get a better card. It was frustrating to him that's for sure.
  2. I welded 2 different times on my 50,000 dollar corn planter that was hooked up to my 190000 dollar tractor. Normaly I would unhook Tractor from implement, but it takes about 45 minutes to get everything unhooked. Weld jobs took about 15 seconds each. Not much more than tack jobs. I was real worried the first time, as you can imagine the amount of electronics in the tractor, not to mention the planter monitor. Piece of cake, worked great. Although if it was a lot of welding I would try to jack up planter to remove the hitch pin thus taking away main contact point between the two units.
  3. I have a good friend who hates credit cards. He was almost 40 years old before he got one. He always saved money and paid cash for everything. He even built a new house and paid cash. He finally had to get one when he couldn't get a room on vacation paying with cash. If I remember right it was almost a little bit difficult for him to get a card because of no past history at that age. He was mad because he could pay cash for his house but not a hotel room......I'll never forget that.
  4. II just make sure I'm careful at stop lights and avoid stopping on a slope where my left side is down hill so the weight doesn't get me. I don't want to have an Artie Johnson on his tricycle type event. My bike sits plenty low so its easy to flat foot and that helps a lot. Actually the worst thing so far is stepping over/ through to get on/ off the bike. Between the backrest and the saddleman luggage on the back, its hard to swing a leg over. I have to step through to get on. It works better coming from right side too. Bike is leaning away from me, but I can step through with my bad foot. If I come from left side, I have to put all my weight on bad foot. When I step through it almost feels like I lunge forward, and lets just say I can feel that.....its all about figuring out a system I guess.
  5. . I hurt my ankle on the 8th of June, and wore a walking boot for 2 weeks. Then I got put into an ASO brace (think basketball/volleyball players with bad ankles) for the remainder. I think it's been 2 weeks now. The first week in the ASO I waited for therapy office to call and they didn't. So I'm a week behind. Now am doing therapy twice a week. The main reason I rode today was I only had one chance to ride during springs work. I only had about 80 miles of riding in before the injury. I hate it when earning a living gets in the way of riding. So today calmed my nerves a bit. It felt really good.........So technically I did ride after 2 days.
  6. I feel for you.....
  7. No worries, I always park on the right side of the lot.
  8. I couldn't take it anymore.......after day 2 of therapy on my left ankle, it was feeling pretty good. I got on my bike in the garage and could hold bike up without any major pain so I figured what the heck, time to take it out. I kept my brace on and laced my hikers up over the top of it and went for a quick crop tour of about 60 miles. I got along pretty dang good. Therapist told me to keep exercising it and I figure that this counts. So game on from here on out! I'm just not going to tell them I stated riding quite yet!
  9. The Blue Line Diner is a typical small town SD gathering place. There are probably 2 or 3 long tables, and about 6 booths. Your waitresses will be high school kids making a little summer cash. One long table will probly have some local ranchers in their cowboy hats and boots shooting the breeze while taking a break from putting up hay. People are friendly. I will say this though, the parking lot is gravel, but every time I've been there it seems firm and easy to navigate. Lots of pickups and horse trailers keep it packed down. My bet is there will be at least one one pickup truck with a cattle dog in the back just waiting for his owner to finish eating. I don't recommend trying to pet those dogs either unless owner tells you to. They are very protective. It's a nice change of pace from the normal Sturgis hustle an bustle. And did I mention that they have pie?
  10. Pie Butt Riders official bylaws (They are official since I make them up as I go) state that any one person who rides 755 miles or more at one time, doesn't have to eat the pie crust if he/she doesn't want to. Also we go by the honor system, you don't need receipts to verify distance. We are a strict bunch!
  11. When I advertise for BBQ establishments, I just have a bunch of sauce dripped all over my shirt. Does that count? Sounds like a good idea (the shirt advertisement)!
  12. According to MapQuest, it is 26.2 miles from Sturgis to Newell. So instead of the Iron Butt 1000, we have the Pie Butt 26.2
  13. Just call me Pie Butt.......
  14. That place is cool. Never been there when all the stuff is going on though.
  15. Easy to get to the Blue Line. Take highway 79 north from Sturgis into Newell. When you get to the 4 way stop turn right (east) and go a few blocks on hwy 212. It will be on right hand side (south) of street. I am going to put my cell number in profile as well.
  16. Monday at the Blue Line Diner for pie sounds like fun. I might be able to make that work! Bummer that the pies aren't made on site, but neither is the ice cream and I don't hold that against them. ....heck we could make the quick trip up to Spur Creek Saloon afterwards.
  17. I know the owner. Good guy, runs a nice campground. Keeps the bathrooms/ showers clean. There are several people from my area that camp there. You can get good food there, and its not terribly over priced compared to other places. Most of all, you can have fun AND get some sleep. They have live bands although not big name and you can buy a beer if you want. Biggest drawback is no shade. Location is good too. Da Bus makes a stop there as well. Saves you a DUI if you want to go party in town etc.. I think this will be year number 7 there for me.
  18. I'm going out whether my ankle is ready or not.....I'm going out on july 30th I think (Thursday before 1st weekend). Staying at Iron Horse Campground. Hope I'm not too gimpy.
  19. Puc, glad to see you haven't forgot about the Blue Line Diner in Newell. Don't forget about Spur Creek Saloon another 7 miles north of Newell. Log cabin bar on a cattle ranch sounds like a good place to stop for a coke doesn't it........All in all you will only be 30 miles north of Sturgis when you are there. Just remember to rev your bike when you go by Iron Horse Campground. That way I know its you going by........
  20. Will be thinking of you, and look forward to hearing how it went. Most of all can't wait to hear about your first ride on the bike after all goes well!
  21. I went to the Podiatrist yesterday for further tests. Tests turned out good. They did a stress x-ray on my foot. That means that the doctor puts on his lead apron and gloves and what not and grabs your shin in one hand and your foot with the other. When they take the x-ray he twists your ankle joint to the side so they can tell if the joint is working properly. If it is, the tendons aren't damaged it will be fine, if they are damaged, the joint won't flex right and bones will slide around, meaning you need a screw to stabilize the joint. He said I was lucky, he couldn't believe I didn't have more damage than I have. He said the sprain I have doesn't get any worse, but its not broken. 2 more weeks in a walking boot, then an ankle brace with therapy for another 4 weeks or so. So look out Sturgis, I think I'm gonna make it! I told my friend that is a Viking fan, my foot has so much purple and yellow on it that I might as well become a Vikings fan. But I bet being a Vikings fan hurts worse than this!!!!!!
  22. Went to orthopedic center yesterday. I have to go back and meet with a specialist/surgeon on Friday. Apparently there is enough ligament damage that stuff is not aligned right in my foot/ankle. Nothing is broken, but may need a screw or 2 to hold stuff in proper alignment. I hope initial diagnosis is wrong and the surgeon says to leave it alone, but that may be wishful thinking. Hope things are back to normal by Sturgis, camping spot is paid for, and I'm going whether I Can ride or not.......
  23. Maybe if I weighed 225 pounds instead of 275. All that weight coming down on that leg pinned under me wasn't good. I was all bent out of shape like a pretzel. I told my neighbor "just picture those trapeze artists and how graceful they look. I didn't look anything like that". He got a laugh out of it......
  24. Had a little farming accident yesterday. I went to get off a 4wd tractor and had a little trouble. The cab platform is about 6 feet in the air. When I went to climb down, I was in a hurry. Instead of facing the tractor a climbing down like using a ladder, I was in a hurry and went to walk down the steps like a set of stairs keeping my hand on the handrail. Only problem was my tennis shoe got caught in the mud cleat on the top step, losing my my balance. I figured rather than go face first into the gravel I better just jump. My left foot hung up on the next step down and I couldn't get my leg under me. I doubled over backwards with my leg pinned underneath. A trip to ER showed no broken bones, although I felt a really bad pop. I could of swore I broke it. So I am in a walking boot with crutches. If it doesn't feel somewhat better in 4 or 5 days we will do an MRI to see what ligament damage there is. My knee feels pretty bad too from leg being twisted up under me. I'm more afraid of my knee because every movement with the walking boot on I have sharp pain on outside of knee and it feels sloppy. I'm afraid this might be a problem holding bike up later..........welcome to summer I guess. Sitting in chair as we speak with leg elevated and ice on it.........
  25. Warning
