As always, great advice on this site.

I can live without the automatic reset - don't have that on my other bike so I'm used to idea of manual canceling. Thanks
-
I know I can replace incandescent turn signal bulbs with LED clusters or bulbs to reduce electrical consumption (draw?). But if I have to add a resistor in order for the "blinker" functionality to work, does the added draw from the resistor essentially cancel out the gain from going with LEDs? Or is there an added draw from the resistor but it's not enough to overcome the gain from the LED? And if so does anyone know what the numbers really are? (for example: incandescent bulb draws 5w, LED draws .2w, resistor draws 1w, so 5w - 1.2w still results in "recovering" 3.8w per bulb - and yeah, I just made up all the numbers.) As you can see I'm not an electrician. Thanks in advance.

Good one..

Wow. Always thought HID were bigger energy draws. Yeah, looking into tail lights and turn signals. Would like to be able to power a heated jacket without having to worry about draining battery. Other bike is a Valkyrie and it has true alternator that produces way more power than needed.

I know this subject has come up before but I'm bothered that all it took to drain the battery was a heated vest. Have heard the the RSV doesn't have the most robust electrical system. I was in Daytona and saw a vendor selling LED running and headlights. Unfortunately can't find name (I thought I took a card) and it may have been only harley specific. Anyway, other discusions here about LED driving or headlights have talked about interference with radio or CB. This guy said he's never heard of that with his LED lights. They were not cheap - at least 400 bucks for a pair of driving lights but might be worth it to reduce the electrical draw and make a heated vest or jacket practical. Anyone know of LED driving lights out there that would fit the RSV and not interfere with radio?

GL1800 vs RSV, initial observations
Yeah, Just Dale replied to Midrsv's topic in Honda Goldwing Tech Talk
What are your observations about the fork mounted (RSV) versus frame mounted (Goldwing) fairing. I've always felt more comfortable with fork mounted and so the RSV "feels" better to me. But that could only be cause I'm used to fork mounted fairings. I've ridden a few Wings and the frame mounted fairing always feels odd to me going into corners. Your thoughts? -
First of all, are you sure you checked all fuses? Don't have manual in front of me but I believe there are fuses located in more than one place. Second, replace all the fuses, even if they look okay. Past experience is that sometimes it's not obvious that a fuse is blown, safe bet is to replace. My two cents.

I have the "Harley" one and it actually flexes and sits away from the windhshield a bit so there is no contact for scuffing. Where the "tail" is down in the fairing there is no movement so no problem there either.

International Motorcycle Show - How was it?
Yeah, Just Dale replied to Yeah, Just Dale's topic in Watering Hole
Meant to say "smaller" show not "small". I understand what you're saying. I'll probablky go as well, as you say to get out of the house. For me this is sort of the unofficial mid-point of winter. Brings hope that spring (and riding) is about 6 or 7 weeks away (if lucky). Thanks. -
FWIW - this sounds a lot like what happened with the Honda Valkyrie. First, fewer and fewer displays at shows and events. Lots of questions from owners about new models, upgrade to 1800 cc engine, etc and no one from Honda able to answer them. Eventually, one last model year - standard bike, any color you want as long as it's black, and then. No more Valks. Great bike, lots of pluses. Owners were (are) fanatics about the bikes, and couldn't understand why Honda discontinued them. Only answer was that they didn't sell well. Maybe the beginning of the end for Ventures.

It's coming to Cleveland last weekend in January. The last two years have frankly been disappointing. Fewer big bikes, fewer bikes overall. Couple of manufacturers absent, overall small show. Anyway, was wondering what this year's show has been like in other cities. For people that have gone this year, what did you think? How did it compare with previous years? Thanks in advance.

and got a headset from IMC motocom, plugs right in to handheld CB. Comes with a long corded PTT button that I have attached on the left grip. Key it with my thumb, or finger, not much different than CB key on Venture. Whole setup was about hundred and thirty bucks.

Live in what's called the "snow belt". East of Cleveland. Not as bad as Buffalo though.

It gets to Cleveland around the end of January. Have to admit the last two years or so have been a disappointment. Seems like fewer and fewer vendors, manufacturers bringing less stock, etc. So go and tell us what you think. Thanks

Very comfy, a bit warm in hot summer weather. Good boots for the price. They may leak if you actually step into deep water (like over the ankle) yet for the life of me can't understand how since they don't appear to have a way for water to get in. Realistically they have never leaked in rain or wet weather. Just don't think you can cross steams in them. I like them.

Big gift was a Rivco center stand for the 09 RSV. Also got DVD of "Bridge Over the River Kwai" (great movie). Here's some trivia for ya - did you know that the author of "Bridge Over the River Kwai" (Pierre Boulle) also wrote a novel called "Monkey Planet" that the movie "Planet of the Apes" was based on?

Don't care much for their website but eBay at least lets you search for parts. They are great on the phone, never tried e-mail. I've been there in person and they are very good as well. Went to buy calipers for my Valkyrie and the person brought out three or four to check out. Then went back and got a few more and I was able to pick the best of what was available.

Thanks for the info.

Does the plug that goes into the side of the CD player in the saddlebag just pull out? I want to unplug and remove the player. I've pulled on the plug and it's not coming out. I don't want to break anything by really yanking on it. TIA

This show gets to Cleveland around the end of Jan/beginning of Feb each year. Noticed this last year that there were very few of any kind of touring bike, Yamaha, Honda, anyone. Lots of cruisers and baggers. Plus the show seems to be getting smaller the last few years. Did you notice that too? I wonder if the economy has the manufacturers convinced that big ticket toys are off everyone's list (though $30K Strato's are certainly big ticket). Just a few observations. Oh yeah, and loved the slide show, great idea.

You may see us (and the scoot) in a soup commercial
Yeah, Just Dale replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
Or post a link or something. Would like to see it. -
You'll love the Valk in terms of speed, power, handling (those 6 cylinders will definitely move you). Not so much for the seat and riding position. Even aftermarket seats don't compare to the "pillow top" seat on the RSV. The riding position is much more upright and in some ways a more natural sitting position. But the tailbone can get sore after a lot of hours in the saddle. I'm fortunate to have the best of both worlds, a 97 Valk (original bumblebee) and an 09 RSV. I started looking for the RSV after a trip out to Colorado (from Ohio) on the Valk last summer. Was awesome but had to high tail it home to get back in time for work (bad planning on my part). Did 900 miles the first day, 500 the second. After that decided that for that kind of long distance, 18 hour plus, riding days I needed something a bit more comfortable. Found a nice 09 RSV over the winter. It's great, like having a cadillac for comfort (RSV) and a porsche for adrenaline (Valk).
