I use the HD sunglasses that you see on TV. I use the ones with bifocals. They work great at nite. We had six inches of rain last nite and I put my sunglasses on while driving the car and I could see alot better. No glare from headlights and I could see right through the sheets of blowing rain. tew47

Pipes, Carbs, Airbox 08 Venture
TEW47 replied to Reed's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My '07 got about the same mpg as your until I got a few thousand miles and it got alot better. I hardly ever get under 43 mpg and have got as high as 51mpg at lower speeds. Try not to take off to fast from stops and that will help. Tyres will last longer also. tew47 -
86 VR Excessive Idling
TEW47 replied to keikat02's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Have you checked the choke rods that go through the carbs? Sometimes the little tabs on thease shafts get bent and cause fast idle. Make sure all four tabs are allowing the shafts to close all the way. Just open and close the choke while looking at the carbs and you will see the shafts move forward and backward. tew47 -

If you will email Avon and tell them what you ride and how much you and passenger weight, they will tell you how much pressure you should run. For me they said 42 front and 50 on the back. They used the RSV as a test bike for the tires and found they run cooler at those pressure. tew47

Met Taz at Ezell's Catfish Camp today. Look like his leg is doing better. Had a gread day for a ride. I was going to see how far I could go on a tank of gas. Went 212 miles before I had to go on resurve. Was getting nervous in the middle of nowhere so I stopped at a little gas station and filled up. Took 4.8 Gal. at 230 miles!!!! With at least one more gallon I could have made another 15 miles home. HAPPY NEW YEAR tew47

Went to a CMA and PGR funeral friday. The man was 84 years old. He was married before he was drafted in 1943. His wife died a year after their 11 child was born. He never remarried and raised all eleven children by himself. He had 11 children, 31 grand children, 70 great grand children, 4 great great grand children for a total of 116 descendants. Quite a MAN! tew47

A friend of mine has a VTX1800, the oil dipstick broke off and fell into the engine. So far he has not been able to get it out. I have a strong magnet , hoping he can slide it up to the oil filler hole. If not will he have to split the cases? Does not have the money to take it to the shop. Any suggestions? tew47

You can buy a lever from another bike that is adjustable or an aftermarket that is adjustable. You might have to saw or grind off a tab and switch out the part that pivots to make it work , but it can be done. tew47
