Windshield & handlebar question
Bluesman replied to raceman62race's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Interesting. Never thought about a vent before. I like that idea. This is the first ride I have (Venture) that has a permanent 'shield' in front of you at all times. My old ride had a removable windshield which I removed for short trips. I like the feel of the wind 'blowing through my hair' and this should about compensate for it. Question though.....does a GoldWing vent fit the curves of a stock Venture screen? Bluez -
Thanks for the tip! Got one to share that was sent to me privately that's very similar to your suggestion: "Place masking tape at the points the trunk rack will meet the lid that way you have room to adjust it and you can make sure you align it properly. Once in position, trace around the base and after removing the rack, drill your holes in the center. Remove the tape, install the rack and you're done. Worked for me!" Bluez

Hey, don't you worry. I'll be making the trip out your way many times this year. Told you, the Boathouse is our turn around point so since I'll be nearby, you can count on us dropping in, or, going for a ride since you know the roads better then me. As for installing the parts, sure! That is if there's anything left to install what with all the help I've been offered! *L* Pickup date is April 5th for the bike. If the weather holds, could make it out the following weekend. Would be a great way to get the miles on her for the break-in period! And Squidley, the amount of accessories I bought, I'll be taking the truck to carry them home! Cripes, I'd need to win the lottery to afford the shipping cost down to you! Bluez

My buddy Draegerman was right, this is a great place to come to for information! Glad I found this forum! And thanks for all the advice. Looks like I'm gonna go the way of the do-it-yourself route. I did 75% of the mods on my old Roadstar so you're right, it really shouldn't be that difficult. Besides, the money I saved on dealer installation just allowed me to buy more chrome!!! And Squidley, thanks for the offer. I just may take you up on it. One short road trip involves circumnavigating Lake Huron before heading home through Manitoulin so I may just be in a neighbourhood near you. Thing is, I'm gonna need me a damn trailer to haul all those parts! *L* Bluez

Hey people, as some of you know, I just purchased an '09 Venture. The dealer offered me a 20% discount on accessories so I went a little overboard on the items I wanted to dress up my ride. Thing is, when the quote came in, with installation included, the actual installation price was almost the same as the accessory price (eg. Trunk rack cost: $180. Installation: $135!!!). What I'd like to know is if there's various posts that explain installation techniques such as installing passing lamps, trunk wings, braided lines etc. I mean, step by step instructions to simplify my own installation. I dressed up my Silverado on my own but I'm not an expert, just a back yard type mechanic and any help would be appreciated. As usual, thanks in advance for all your help!........... Bluez

One last time: THE 'WHINE'!
Bluesman replied to Bluesman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Now that is what I was talking about when it came to getting advice from here! Thanks a million! Been hearing too many horror stories and not enough postive notes. Never had a problem with my Roadstar Silverado. Damn, never had a better bike! Been wanting to 'step up' for the last 4 years to a deluxe touring bike and researched all the possibilites and when all was said and done, my final choice always pointed to the RSV. Couldn't find anything close with the same bang for your buck. Unfortunately, I bought it from looking at a demo at the Supershow in Toronto and that one wasn't available for test riding (besides, 2 feet of snow outside didn't help matters either!). The bike destined for me is in some crate God knows only where so testing that one is out too. Guess I'll just have to take my chances and keep my fingers crossed the first ride I take. Thanks again for all your invaluable input! Bluez -
Okay guys (and gals), I need to get my head around this issue about the 'whine' I keep hearing about. I'm about to make the closing deal on my 09 RSV and I'm getting really concerned so I'd like to ask a bunch of questions in regards to this and get some positive answers. 1) Just how serious an issue are we talking about here? I've heard that 'Hey, crank up the tunes and you won't notice it!' as an answer but that doesn't cut it. What if I just wanted to hear the wind whistling by instead and get lost in my thoughts rather then cruise to 'Born to be Wild' all day? 2) Just how common is this problem? I mean, percentage wise, are we talking 10%? 25%? 75%? 0.1% maybe? 3) I've read over and over again how Yamaha denies there's any problem but does anyone know what industry insiders say? Are they looking or have they found a solution? 4) To me it's obvious that the whine originates from the shaft drive but have V-Star and VMax riders reported a similar problem? What about other bike manufacturers such as Honda or Suzuki? Any other shaft drive riders reporting problems? 5) And finally, (this question goes out to those that actually have experienced the problem) most of you (just as I have) researched the bike prior to committing yourselves to buy it.........so if this problem is such a pain in the butt, how come y'all still went out and purchased one in the first place? I hope some of these questions get answered cause I have yet to see anything in regards to them and hopefully they'll help other future potential Venture buyers to come to a better, more informative decision. My deposit cheque has been cashed but I still may have an out. I truly appreciate the idea of owning a Venture but I need my fears put to rest before I close this deal. And as usual, I thank you all in advance for your wonderful input....... Bluez

Anybody know off hand if the Venture is GPS ready? I have a TomTom as I had it from my old ride and I want to set it up on the new one so what I mean is, is there an outlet to jack in my adaptor? Or do I have to install one myself? Thanks......... Bluez (Just trying to plan ahead!)

What a truly brilliant idea! Wow, if the government would pay off my mortgage, my credit card debts, my loans etc, think of all that credit that would be available to run out and buy more appliances, trucks and big screen TVs (not to mention porn!) and really stimulate the economy! Like, why are they bailing out those Wall Street 'hotshots' that got us into this mess in the first place? I'm struggling to keep ahead and those bast**rds still get to go home to their $25million dollar Rhode Island mansions and they don't even get their pee-pees slapped! Cripes!, my a@@ would be grass from my company for taking home a roll of toilet paper and they blow away billions? Bluez

Okay folks, since I have to wait 2 1/2 months to pick up my scooter, been doing a lot of shopping for accessories to personalize my ride and one of the latest desires is to fly a flag from my ride. A few questions: 1) Which is more preferable? Mounting a seperate flag pole (to a trunk rack) or hooking them to the antennas? 2) If you clip them to an antenna, what is the largest recommeded flag dimension you could use without having your antennas dragging on the road behind you while doing a buck-30? 3) Does mounting a seperate flag pole interfere with radio reception? And does the flag have a tendancy to wrap around the antenna? and finally, 4) Anyone know of a reputable retailer I could either pick up a flag pole or clips, either on the internet or locally (Southern Ontario)? Thanks again people! Man, this site is damn good! Bluez

Considering buying a Venture, but have concerns
Bluesman replied to MPK's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Er.....just what kind of 'whine' and 'chirp' are we talking about here? I mean, is it that noticeable? I'm picking up my Venture in April. I have yet to sign off on the bike totally and now you've got me second guessing this purchase. I've had a few problems with my '02 Silverado but nothing I couldn't live with. That bike served me well these past 7 years. Maybe I'll have to reconsider parting with it........... Bluez- 36 replies

New here but I was told by a friend that this is the place to come to if you needed information about the Venture. I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this question or if it's been asked but hey, like I said, I'm a newbie here. I just bought an '09 Royal Star Venture S. My question to you riders is, does anyone know somewhere I can pick up an after-market driver's back rest? One that is easy to install, able to fold down to allow a passenger easy access to the back seat and perhaps even removable for simple, every day local riding. My back ain't what it used to be and I'm looking for something for long distance riding. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance....... Bluez
