The best thing I have seen for all year comfort is a sheep skin. I purchased a black (dyed) skin in 2004, had enough to cut two pieces for the front and back seats on my RSV. They wrap down the sides of each seat and I put grommets on the edges. I use elastic material under the seats to keep them tight. The elastic needs to be changed annually because they stretch out. They still look great and keep you cool in summer and warm in winter.

Huhhhh? I think I had a time warp. RSCT?

When my second clutch goes in my '02 RSV, I am replacing it with the auto clutch. Here is the site: http://www.efmautoclutch.com/street.shtml No more clutching unless you want to.

Side reflectors with LED
Sylvester replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just bought the ones sold by JC Whitney or J&P, removed the old reflectors, wire the new LED and re-installed the new LED/reflector. The only issue I had (this was done in '02) was the ridge around the mounting plate needed to be cut off. I used my band saw but it can be done with many tools. I did the front and back, and the wiring was straight forward. Very simple and should take less than 1.5 hours. -
The facts of this economy are that few have extra money to buy the things they "want". I know numerous people with motorcycles for sale right now and they are not getting offers. In the reality of life, the value of items are only worth what you can sell them for. I don't think motorcycle values will be back to previous prices for quite a while.

Using my garage mechanic logic, I would think a heat tape would melt the stuff reasonably well. I may be out of my mind since I live in balmy North Carolina, but it sure worked on RV's when I was living on construction job sites.

Any problems with luggage racks?
Sylvester replied to Murphster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Contrary to ECK's post, I have had the JC Whitney luggage rack on my RSMV for seven years without problems. It looks great and I have made numerous cross country trips with it loaded heavy. -
Good question my friend. My first battery lasted 2 1/2 years also. When I replace it (with the same brand "Yuasa") my dealer's shop foreman told me to get a battery tender. Bottom line is that now for almost 4 1/2 years I have run on the 2nd battery. I just plug in the tender when I park the bike in the garage, and I don't live in the cold climate like many others.

One last time: THE 'WHINE'!
Sylvester replied to Bluesman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have never had a whine in my '02, but I have heard it in other RSV's. It is not a mechanical problem, and every motorcycle I have owned since 1959 had some noise. You should have heard some of the noises from my Triumph motorcycles, I thought they were going to disintegrate. -
I have a ventless gas log (LP) in the living room which works well if you move the warm air with fans. If you use it for ambiance, it tends trip the thermostat and the rest of the house gets cold. I always have a kerosene heater available since I use it in the garage, and I have a two burner radiant (LP) heater that I use occassionally in construction. The biggest protection in the winter is a backup generator. I have only used it once so far, but it is important when you have no power.

Not really like the '73 850 Commando I sold last year or the 750 Commando I had in '69. Looks more like a sport bike/cafe racer.

They are very nice until they start breaking down from sweat and other environments, then they become just plain nasty.

There is an Indian dealer in Lowell, NC that I pass by on I-85 three or four times a week. I rarely see any cars in front of the dealership when I go by. The factory is farther south on I-85 in Kings Mountain, NC and the few times I went by it, it was pretty slow. When they held the open house, I rode my Venture to it and the salesman had no idea what I was riding; he said "nice hog".

Going down to the low teens here in beautiful Bessemer City, NC tonignt and tomorrow night. I have not seen it that cold since I left Nebraska. In 1983, in Omaha between Thanksgiving and Christmas, it never got above -2F for thirty days, and it went to -33F at its worst. What is all this about global warming?

I will get my first look at the IMS in Greenville, SC next month (I will be tending a Star Touring and Riding booth). I have been looking forward to seeing the Kaw since the announcement came out. All these posts are great but I want to see it first hand before I make my decision. The Victory tourer left me numb as far as motorcycles go. I hope the Kaw is not "that bad".

I have been very comfortable with the Rivco air horns since 2003. I clean them annually with WD 40 and a blast of compressed air. I have put 100K on the bike and the horns work perfectly.

The bars look like they are off a RSTD. I put these on my Venture and got more width and pull back. I had to get longer (+2") throttle cables to make them work.

My favorite is the "drink butler". It holds a thirty two ounce mug. It is all carbon plastic and you can easily remove the holder portion from the rest. This is their site. www.glassact.com

Passenger floor board replacement ??
Sylvester replied to FuzzyRSTD's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I took mine off six years ago, polished them with a drill with a buff on it and used rouge, they only take a bit of polish once a year to make them brighter than chrome. Not hard work at all and they look great. -
Thanks Squidley

Tell me how when you get it working like you want it. Also where do the US maps with color-in capabilities come from?

Cut me off, lady...come on, I dare ya! Cut me off!!
Sylvester replied to Semi-retired's topic in General Tech Talk
How does the Stebel compare to the Rivco? They are only 6-9 decibels different. I have had the Rivco for six years and they move traffic just fine. -
Considering buying a Venture, but have concerns
Sylvester replied to MPK's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You will not be dissapointed with a RSV. I bought mine in 02 and the dealer and Yamaha have always taken care of any problem under the warranty. After seven years and 100k miles, it runs like a fine Swiss watch. But remember, you should only buy what you want. Another option is a used RSV, with remaining factory warranty. You will save plenty and still have more warranty than any other new bike.- 36 replies

My Metzler problem was a front tire, it had bulges on it. Tookit off and the belts had broken, just a matter of time before it desintegrated. Now I have Dunlop 404's.

LED Brake Light and LED turn signals
Sylvester replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I installed the turn signals on a friends RSV, the amber is drowned out with the red. Wound up taking them off and installing Radianz turn signals on the rear.
