  1. Remember the RSV needs rpm's. It has little torque like V-twinn. I only run my cruise at highway speeds of 75 mph in fifth and 45 - 50 mph in fourth. In these ranges it works great.
  2. All I can say is-do what the doctors say and forget the rest. I have been there and it took weeks to get my head straight. Like others have said "the details will work out by themselves". God Bless
  3. I have the "Wheel Dock" and it work great. It can be used on the floor of the garage or mounted on the trailer (using a supplied bracket) and you can trust it to hold the bike upright. Of course if you are going to trailer the bike, you tie it down. This unit is made specific for your bike and tire size; they will call you to get the specifics.

  5. I belonged to HOG for many years, but never belonged to a local chapter. My complaint was the drinking and riding. The members were also brand conscious and if I wanted to ride my Wing instead of the Ultra, well I rode alone.
  6. You can handle the throttle with the cruise control in place on a 2nd gen. If you throttle back it will kick off the cruise and if you throttle up... well it will come back to your settings. I see no need for a friction control.
  7. I am a paid member of this site, now, and proud of it. I joined in January and thoroughly enjoy this site. I am now going to click on the "donate" key. I will be back soon.
  8. I just had one of my rear pads disintegrate while navigating through a switch back in the Blue Ridge mountains. Lost all rear braking and when I got home I removed the pads and found no friction pad left. There were pieces left down in the caliper. These were Ferodo pads and I put in EBC HH on Monday. I don't think saving a little money is worth the big heartache that could be in the future.
  9. I have neighbors who both retired from GM, and they are very worried. They have a "66" 396 Chevelle and a "70" SS 454 El Camino. Even with the value of these fine cars they may be in trouble.
  10. Yep that's the one I have (in clear lense). It is nothing like the one that Smilerider is looking at. That one has been around for some time (7 years that I know of) but is not nearly as bright as the Diamond R.
  11. I have the Diamond R also and it is great. Most of my RSV friends use it also. Easy install and very bright.
  12. I use the Honda Pro Polish and have for seven years on the original windshield (102,000 mi.). It cleans and polishes, and the water slides off.
  13. My house is in the country and there are many cattle farms nearby. I always proceed carefully when in my cage or bike. I have met many black Angus cattle on the road, that have found a hole in the fence while looking for greener grass. They are very docile and a horn moves them out of the way. I am glad that you faired well with you encounter.
  14. Ride it and enjoy. You have a 2nd gen. Venture without the box, so keeping up with the Venture items (under 2nsd Gen Tech Talk) will basically cover the mechanics. I have 102,000 miles on my 02 Venture without any unscheduled down time. Servicing them is easy and I do all my own work. If you are mechanically inclined, get a service manual.
  15. And there, but for the grace of God, go I
  16. Thank you all! After removing and cleaning up the calipers on my "new" 81 GW 1100, I realized the need for periodic maintenance on these brake systems. The GW were basically frozen from deteriorated seals allowing moisture into the system. I don't want my 02 RSMV to fall into this problem. I have had it serviced by my dealer over the years.
  17. Is DOT 5 an option for the 2ndG RSV? It is time to flush the brakes.
  18. It looks so fresh and innocent in the pictures, now it is time to take it out and get it dirty. Don't waste time washing it all the time, you need to ride it. I try to help mankind by not using very much water on cars and bikes. I personally believe the blue/black is half as fast as the midnight. Ride and enjoy
  19. I have finished removing all three calipers and found two of the sets had frozen pistons in them. All three had pitting on the pistons. I have ordered $300 worth of parts (pistons and seals) and hope to be able to clean the caliper housing well enough to get them to work. The seals had failed and water got into the piston housing. The brake pads are like new so I did not have to get them. Keep in mind that you cannot get new calipers anymore. So if you buy it and cannot fix what you have then you need to find salvage parts. I should have my parts in a week. I found the cheapest place was Parts Pitt Stop on the net.
  20. I just picked up a 1981 GL 1100 Gold Wing Interstate for $600. Very nice condition with new saddle and windshield and near new tires. The brakes are shot due to lack of use. I took off the front calipers and need to order about $100 in parts to fix them. I can't afford the new rotors at $482 each so I will make do. I will also take the rear caliper off and clean it also. Mechanically it is great other than the brakes. I don't know what condition the GL 1000 you are looking at is, but if it is fixable and you don't put more than $1000 into it, you would have a nice ride. The 1000cc had a lot less power than the 1100cc, and no I don't know why.
  21. Both front calipers and the rear caliper need rebuild due to water in the system. I will give it a thorough fluid change while it is down. This bike really runs great since it only had two owners. Nearly new tires, new large front windshiels and new Saddleman saddle. My RSMV is not associating with this intruder.
  22. Seems like it would have been easier to buy a Venture to begin with, but to each his own.
  23. Worry not my friend. I have a 02 RSMV, 05 Triumph Bonneville, 09 H-D Ultra, 62 H-D Duo Glide and just bought a 81 Honda G.W. Interstate. There is a lot of room!
  24. Since it needed a left front rotor, front pads, most likely a clutch (chatter) and a full service, I paid under $1000. It had 73,xxx miles and cosmetically very nice. A whole lot lighter than my RSMV.
  25. I run the Dunlop 404 and have for the last three sets. I am very pleased with the overall performance. I would never have Bridgestone or Metzler again.
