80/100 watt H4 bulb
Sylvester replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Have you ever thought about the oncoming traffic? Just because you feel comfortable with the lumen output and can see far down the road, think about the person coming toward you who is blinded by your light. That person may wind up in your lane. I will stay with legal light output, thank you. Just an old fart! -
Looks like the 2010 will fit in with the new governments fuel consumption policies. Albeit not fast enough to excape the dragon fly coming up from behind.

I can feel for you, Brakepad. My wife and I plus four other couples road back from DC yesterday after Rolling Thunder. Everyone wanted to stop for lunch (2:30) in Burlington, NC. I said if we do we will most likely hit the T-storms building in the south. Sure enough after lunch we get to Salisbury where eveyone else exited, I have to go another fifty five miles to my home in Bessemer City, NC. I need not tell what happened. It was so bad we spent twenty minutes under an interstate bridge with thirty other motorcycles. Well when we got home-still raining-I got the bike in the garage and changed clothes. I guess lunch was a good idea for the rest.

leaking shock this time?
Sylvester replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Absolutely, positively, certainly, with out a doubt, most likely and maybe a bad shock. I think I covered all bases. -
You can call anytime. I will be leaving Friday 6:00 AM for Rolling Thunder, but I will have my phone all weekend if not riding.
-
I hope you use a pin to hold the standards. I made a smaller version of that for my RSMV and lost two flags. Then I got smarter and drilled from the side through the pole and used a fine threaded screw.

I will spend Friday riding my bike to Washington DC with flags proudly displayed. Saturday I will go to the VA hospital and visit each and every room to thank the soldiers for their service and sacrifice. In the afternoon I will visit the tomb of the unknown soldier. I will ride into town Saturday evening to visit the memorials of our fallen soldiers. Sunday I will awake early and meet tens of thousands of like minded souls in the Pentagon parking lot and then ride in formation past the Marine at attention to the Lincoln Memorial. I will then cry when Jerry is presented in his tiger cage (a true POW who survived Viet Nam). After many dignitary speeches I hope to see Nancy Sinatra and Paul Revere and the Raiders again. I will get back to the motel late. I will have cried alot, felt horrible alot, had very few happy moments and sleep poorly. I will get up early Monday and head back home. I will look forward to doing it again next year like I have so many years in the past. This is not a weekend for me. It is a weekend for "THEM"

Rather easy to install: clamp the lower bracket to the passenger hand hold use a smaller drill bit and mark the center of each hole drill a 5/16" hole up all the way through the hand hold throw away the screws they supply with the kit buy 1/4" carriage bolts run the carriage bolts down from the top of the hand hold bolt the lower bracket to the carriage bolt with nylon lock nuts complete installation of the arm rests
-
Do yourself a favor and instead of using the Diamond R screws to secure the arm rests, drill throught the passenger hand hold from the bottom with a 1/4" bit. Then use a 1/4 carriage bolt from the top with a nylon lock nut at the bottom to affix the arm rest. You will never have to mess with them again.

Medium caliber ammunition here in NC is all but gone. I carry a .380 and my son tried to get some ammunition for me in Asheville. It was $90/box of 50. I can get .38 special for my .357 but that is about it. Seems odd since I can get plenty of .44 mag. and .44 special.

Thanks Freebird, I did not have that one on my favorites. I own a Ford 2n and have been using it for five years to mow my acreage. I am looking for a larger diesel and then plan on restoring the one I have now. It is an early 1946 (same age as me) and I am the third owner (never overhauled).

special thanks to freebird.also dealer..and a question
Sylvester replied to jlh3rd's topic in Watering Hole
With all that you are running off the electrical system, you need a high output stator. Buckeye Performance sells one for the RSV and is fairly easy to install. -
Well done, Reiny. I have/had a 81 Gl1100 which I just sold. I went up past 100mph in a hurry. I am dealing on an 89 GL1500 now with a bad starter and no battery. The 1500 is an awesome improvement over the 1000/1100/1200 series. All this being said...I still love my 02 RSMV. Having multiple motorcycles in not a bad thing.

I am confused about all the news of GM and Chrysler closing dealerships! I don't pretend to know anything about the workings of auto dealerships, but how does closing them make the auto makers more profitable? Basic economics tells me that having an outlet for your product is necessary. Seems like VOODOO economics to me.

I won't bash HD. I had an 2000 Ultra that was a very nice machine and very comfortable. The problem was electrical and a very poor dealer. Enough said.

If you go to Asheville, take 74A north from Bat Cave. You have some good riding and as you get to Asheville, you can jump on the Blueridge Parkway. It is a nice ride and I would go to Mount Mitchell and then on to Blowing Rock. There is great food in Blowing Rock and "Kelwyn's" Fudge and Ice Cream is to die for.

That is something I was thinking of installing. Maybe I will re-think! -
tall vs short windscreens
Sylvester replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This is all true and undisputable, until your wife of thirty eight years is complaining of the neck stress on a 2nd gen because you installed the short wide Show Chrome windshield.- 21 replies

Looks like they have all the frills of life. Probably have their own mechanic on board. :mo money:

This job could not be any easier. A pair of needle nose pliers is all that is needed, if that. There are plenty of wrench turners here if you need us.

Thank God, I thought mine was a mess. I have two bays available but the floor needs sweeping, there are things to put up, and the center and sides are packed with woodworking and metal working power tools. Condor, I will show my wife your pictures and she will not say anything about my garage for years.

master brake
Sylvester replied to barend's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Barend, Just finished rebuilding calipers and master cylinders on an 81 Goldwing, and one thing I learned is that bleeding brakes is a task in patience. I had the same problem, the fluid was by passing the m.c. valve. I will tell you to either get a Mity Vac or speed bleeder valves. These will save your sanity and having to have another person to help. If you use the Mity Vac make sure you remove your bleeder valves and wrap teflon tape on the threads then reinstall to keep from sucking air. While bleeding your system keep adding fresh fluid (never use used fluid) until the system is flushed. That being said, you can google search "Yamaha parts" and it will come up with many alternatives to dealership pricing. I saved half of what I would have paid at a Honda dealer around here. I still got OEM Honda parts but from a source in Michigan. -
I have the J&M mic for a 2nd gen. It does not need to be keyed by the switch on the handlebar. If "davecb" has a J&M and it does not work with the mic key, then it is installed wrong. I have had mine for four years and they are not available anymore. I do know that the mike is really a seven pin. You have to connect their extension under the fairing and ground a certain wire to a wire under the fairing. The stock connector (5 pin) will plug into the seven pin and everything works as it should for helmet mounted mic. I have had riders beg me to sell this to them, but I need it more. It really works great. You can use the stock key to transmit and never bring the mic to your mouth just by talking to it (only at slower speeds). On the highway it is obviously noisier to use.

I never had luck with Dunlops on my 2000 Ultra Classic, but on my RSMV I love them. The Metzzler ME 880, that I previously had, really sucked.
