I have been riding since 1959, not always legally, but all the bikes I have ridden have been carbureted except my 2000 HD Ultra. I don't understand the mentality of FI engine "need". All have performed great and the occassional sync is not a problem. This is an overated statement from those who subscribe to the magazine journals and government mandates.

Does anyone else have these problems?

The groaning when sitting on the bike( #2) was stopped on my Venture by lubricating the dust covers on the shock with a little grease...so the don't bind when collapsing. -
Black is still the fastest. :clap2:

Clutch replacement
Sylvester replied to 01 Rider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I am replacing all the discs and spring. It slipped a couple times on me in the last month. I have 113,000 miles and had the clutch replaced around 28,000 miles under warranty. I feel the need to replace everything. -
Clutch replacement

They are very prompt...I ordered Wednesday and received Friday. Don't bother e-mailing them, just call. I don't think they monitor e-mail very well. -

I just received my PCW clutch and the spring is in a Yamaha package #26H-16307-01. It is a heavier spring though than the stock. -
removed cassette, added gauges......done

Yep, thousands of 2nd gen Ventures being turned down for warranty work because they have been modified. I have begun the process to do the install but my 02 has been out of warranty for some time now, so I have nothing to worry about. All kidding aside, this is a remarkable change for the Venture. -
My son-in-law works for a very large plastic and rubber company, in fact it is the largest in the US. He told me the design and production, not alone the liability would be astronomical. Therefore I believe that a smart individual could do this under the radar.

If our current USA government officials keep going the way they are, you will be looking at the same situation in our 50 states.

Time is coming, I feel, that a rear shock is going to be needed (what with 112,xxx miles). What are the aftermarket options?

Your tires are old and brittle, wear indicaters and visual inspection mean nothing. Get rid of the tires now. Buy new tires (not Bridgestone or Metzler), enroll in ERSC (experienced rider safety course) and they will teach you to handle your bike. You can turn a Venture in a twelve to thirteen foot area if you know how.

But they did get rid of the cross over pipe for the exhaust...finally!!!

Really nice rig! What brand is the trailer? I love the vinyl rock shield.

I have never had these whines/chirps on my 02. My friends with 05's. 06's and 08's do not have these noises. Sorry to bust your bubble. Not all Ventures have this noise.

That has to be good news for you. I got the same news in 1986 after three years of chemo. Enjoy the rest of your life, I have.

Metzler ME 880 upgrade
Sylvester replied to 920shrek1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had the belts break on my last set of ME880's. My RSMV got real squirrely and when I noticed the bulge in the walls, I replaced the tires. No more Metzelers for me. -
Don, I assume you want the "bright white" and not just any white? I have withheld doing the gauge thing since I have to replace gauges frequently on my farm tractor. If I could get them in marine grade and 1 1/2" I would do it. I went back and looked at the post by Ponch on the gauges and those Sunpro he used sure look white to me.

venture has no heating option
Sylvester replied to Bobcatpat's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have Gerbing heated gloves and Tour Master heated jacket liner. That is all I need and I ride in the 20's F. Your feet stay warm inside the fairing with the engine heat. I also keep a sheepskin on the seat year around (cooler in summer and warmer in winter). -
Yesterday I happened by the Triumph dealer in Mathews, NC and went in to look. They had a sold Thunderbird on the floor (black) but they would not let me demo it since it was sold. The salesman asked the service manager it I could ride his and so off I went. This is a really nice bike. 1600cc vertical twin with awesome torque. It even felt good for comfort with the forward controls and floorboards. I loved everything about it except the tank mounted speedo/tach/gauges. The color was pacific blue and white which was very pretty. I have been thinking of a smaller bike for local riding and keeping the RSMV for the long haul. You never know...

I am with Don on this one. Sounds like an electric device from the past that was to cure your sleeplessness.

Tie-down location on RSTD?
Sylvester replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I tie to the handle bars and never on the rear. -
Interstate is a fine dealership and anything they sell is top shelf material. I am farther away from them (due to move to the country) and don't get in very often. I always have had a soft spot for the MM edition.
