Remember this, in a couple days you will look in the mirror and say "Man I got old in a hurry"! Then you will be the oldster.

That is exactly what I was going to say. If I fill my crankcase above the 1/2 mark on the sight gauge it will throw oil on my rear white wall tire. And I don't like that! I hate to clean white walls but I love the look.

You will use the jacket the most I would think and if it is on a thermostat, it will not be pulling 100 watts all the time. I don't know anything about a 1st gen. but the key is to not run the heat continuous. I have my gloves on a switch and turn it off until my hands require more heat. My jacket is on the thermostat which at low is plenty warm.

I used to feel like Freebird but after moving to NC in 87 I look forward to the fall and winter months. Some of the best riding is in the coolest time of the year.

You can plug an mp3 player into the cassette player and run it through the auxillary on the left side radio control. Works great and most riders use only that since the cd player takes up space and skips.

Buzzing in my ears
Sylvester replied to FreezyRider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just pull the fuse behind the right lower fairing and forget it. Unless you live in Denver, CO or higher elevations you don't need the carb heaters. I put a switch in mine and the heaters have been off for two years. -
Very embarassing! I feel sorry for him..."OHHH the shame" by Sylvester Jr.

Holloween decorations were selling in stores in August around Charlotte, NC. Way too early for me. When Thanksgiving is over I may get in the Christmas spirit.

have a 2nd gen cd changer you want to get rid of?
Sylvester replied to jdzimme's topic in Watering Hole
There should be a lot of changers available. I know many that removed them from 09 and now 10 models since they are mandatory now. I will ask a couple buddies that removed theirs. -
I have owned three silver vehicles and all three developed splotching (dark spots in the silver). I would never own another. I do like the Venture liquid silver color but not enough to buy one. If they had made a black and silver Venture I may have bought one, always liked the HD in that color.

I don't get out near as much now as I used to, the old age thing, but in the eight years I have owned Sylvester I have put 118,500 miles on him. Still running strong and trouble free.

I just rebuilt my clutch with PCW and new discs, after about fifty miles of riding my clutch is nearly all the way out before it grabs. Also when up-shifting I feel the gears grind slightly even though I am fully dis-engaging the clutch lever. Everything works well other than that. Before the conversion the clutch grabbed midway out on the lever. I will bleed the line and then put some serious miles on it.

I wanted a MM when I bought my 02 RSMV. I have always had an urge to own both the MM and the first year Midnight. Buttt alas, I can't afford one now. I guess I will just keep Sylvester in the best shape for the rest of our lives. Hope he outlives me!!!

I did the headlight replacement in 2004 and have never had a problem with it. I used the Adjure wave cut main headlight and also installed the wave cut pass lights. With the PIAA bulbs it really puts the light on the road.

If you ordered the spring and back friction plate or ordered the upgrade (spring and friction plate) plus new clutch discs (as I did), it is so easy you cannot screw up unless you are a caveman. You don't need somebody else to show you how to do it. And if you get confused...call John, he will set you straight.

I'm Back--Did Ya Miss Me?................
Sylvester replied to Aussie Annie's topic in Watering Hole
Just last night I was talking to Little Bit (one of my six dogs) and told her that I haven't seen anything from Aussie Annie lately. Sure glad you're on the mend. Little Bit is happy now. -

After a particularly bad day a year ago, I said enough. Went home signed up for SS and did little for a couple months. Last winter I started a business (building and maintenance) since I spent almost fifty years in heavy civil and marine construction. Now I am comfortably busy and enjoy the time between jobs to work at home or ride. The best is that I have enough income to keep my bike and me happy. My wife, being younger, has a few years left to work.

Gerbings Heated Gear and my 09 RSV
Sylvester replied to csogbk's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You will not be able to run all three at the same time. That would drain your battery since the alternator couldn't keep up. I just run the gloves and full jacket and the jacket is on a thermostat, the gloves are direct. What I have done to make sure I don't drain the electrical supply is installed the carb heater disconnect which saves 70 watts and I leave my passing lights off while running the heat. I have no problems! I have installed the heavy stator (Buckeye Performance) on a friends Venture so he can run two sets of heated clothing. He loves that, but it ain't cheap. -
You can replace just the door and there are many of them available now or soon to be. I will be changing mine out to gauges this winter and would gladly give you everything I take out. I have a Midnight Venture with the wood grain dash effects. If you can wait a month or so, I will get them to you.

Unless you plan on riding in the Northwest Territory or Alaska in the winter, you only need the gloves and jacket if you ride a Venture. Your core temp. will heat the rest of you. With your feet inside the fairing the engine will heat them. I have Gerbing gloves and Tour Master jacket. Buy what you like, they pretty much all do the job, and remember you can always add more later.

Great news! I will post you on our next gathering here in North Carolina. Maybe you could make it. God bless all of our fighting men and women!

Do you turn the fuel off...
Sylvester replied to yamadawg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I never turn mine off, but my mechanic does. Therefore every time I leave his shop I run out of fuel going down the on ramp to I-85 south. This never fails and I never remember to look to see that it is turned back on. The good thing is that I only use him once or twice a year, since I do most of my own work.
