To all my fellow riders in the very deep southern parts of Canada like Texas and Arizona :rotf:you don’t know what you’re missing. The temperature in Ontario hit a blistering 5 Celsius (41 Fahrenheit) and I couldn’t stand it anymore No one wanted to ride because it was to darn cold. The sky was cloud free, so I mounted the iron pony and set out though places like the Niagara escarpment, Beaver Valley, River Road and Osler Bluffs. Three hours non stop, and I was frozen stiff when I got home. It took 1 ½ hrs to thaw the smile off my face. Thank god winter is only 6 months long or I’d have to move to southern Ontario around Jacksonville or Tallahassee. I'm sure glad spring is here. Ride safely and enjoy the season.

I joined back in 2000 for $2400 Canadian and have saved over $40,000 in purchases. Not everything you want or need is a savings. Some things like furniture can be 3 to 4 times the manufactures cost. You must do your comparison shopping before you purchase the items. I have even purchased and saved money on the truck I drive today. Another thing is each location has local merchants that give the store deals. My truck was one of them. In Toronto the auto sales are very competitive so the dealers had incredible deals for members, but when I move to Barrie the Direct Buy does not deal with the Auto dealerships so if I want to purchase another new vehicle I would have to go back down to Toronto. Each individual has different needs for purchasing and the club is not suited for everyone’s needs. People that are furnishing homes I think tend to have better saving then people looking to purchase electronic items. Electronic items are very competitively priced so the mark up may only be 15 to 25%. Items like draperies tend to have a large mark, some as much as 500%. So depending on the stage of life you are at, it dictates what purchases you are required to make. This in turn will reflect on the amount of savings you will save. I was lucky and I joined when I had just purchased a new home and needed new appliances and furniture. Hence the $40k savings. Now my parents if they had joined would still be waiting to see a savings because the have everything they need and want. This would be a waste of money for them. So there is not a straight answer to the question because it depends on your stage of life and the new purchases you need to make in the next 5 yrs or so. As I stated it has been a real benefit to me but not to others.

I just purchased a Vertical Hide a Hitch from Diamond R Accessories and installed it in 20 minutes flat. This was the slickest installation ever. I was some what nervous because it was being shipped over the border. Everything went as smooth as silk and dealing with Allen & Patti was a treat. I would order again from them in a second. Thank you for the service. Diamond R Accessories

Son’s March break The MNR (Ministry of Natural Resources) has done it again. Here in Ontario they have close the fishing on the Sunday before the March break. 20 yrs of spending March break on Lake Temagami comes to an end. My son was upset. I am thinking of trying to go south riding for a week down around the Blue Ridge Parkway. What is the weather been like down in that area? They are calling for warm weather in the Toronto area (double digits) this weekend. Would I be able to leave the Toronto area on our bikes and make it south at this time of the year? What are you feeling? Would you try it or should I wait? I have never biked in the USA. I am a little nervous about the weather. I’m looking for some advice from people along the route. Any comments?

Poor Northerner, I had him shaken in his shoes when I stripped his bike down. He told me he was nervous seeing his bike all torn down. One day of maintenance will take Northerner 3 days to recover:rotf::rotf:. She's back together and ready to ride. Great day all around. Pic http://www.venturerider.org/forum/album.php?albumid=298

My number 1 bike is the current 1300 RS Venture. The second place bike was a 1979 Honda CX 500 Custom

Woke up this morning at 5am and no one in the house wanted to talk to me, logged into my favourite site to read a few post. I landed on the Embarrassing Moments Had a good laugh reading all the mishaps people owned up to. Well here goes. 1st drop: I was 16 yrs old and my first bike was a Honda 400 I woke to find the bike on its side. I took it out to early in the spring and the kick stand sunk in the mud during the night. 2nd drop: I was 17 yrs old pulled into the place were I worked in a big hurry to get my pay check. Jumped off the bike and ran in the front door, realising what I did turned to see her falling over because I forgot to put the kick stand down. 1st crash I was 18 yrs stupid. It’s been 28 yrs since I have laid one down (brand new Honda 500 Custom). Young and fearless I would play on a hill going to my friend’s house. I would come over the top of a hill and start down the hill, half way down the hill the pipeline crossed the road creating a jump. The hill bottomed out and the grade changed to up hill again. My friend lived at the end of the road, 90 degree turn left into his yard. The road ended at his driveway and the Canadian white pine forest started. Done right: Hit the jump at 50 m/hr and catch some air, apply full breaks to make the left turn. Not a lot of room for error. Done wrong: Hit the jump at 50 m/hr and catch some air, and have the throttle stuck wide open…… apply full breaks with the motor screaming. I was able to hit the kill button turn the bike sideways and skidded into the pine forest. The bike hit a small tree stood up and rested on the tree in an upright position. (Unbelievably not a scratch on the bike). I was thrown from the bike when it suddenly stopped, I hit a tree or two, and laid in a ball, I was not seriously hurt, no broken bones, scratches and pride. My friends dad was outside in the driveway and watched the entire show and came to my aid. This was the day I learnt to respect the bikes. Stupid Stupid Stupid I have not laid one down since then. I have ridden with a number of new riders since then and always tell them, you will drop it, you will fix it and if no one is around no one will know if you can keep from telling some one. Just don’t be stupid.

I think you will get a lot of static if you try.

Thanks now I am depressed again. Snowed here all week! This was the first time in my life I had to shovel my roof in November. I have 10 years to go to retire and as god is my witness I will spend my winters in the south. Now other than that life is good.

Just laugh for 5 min straight. Talk of Squidley pic’s are coming up in another location in the forms. Poor man will have to live with this the rest of his life. Might as well get it over with Squidley and change your title to BIG GREEN “V” My son met Squidley last Saturday night at a meet and eat, he's afraid to close his eyes now. Told me that’s why he rides a Honda.

85 Years Young, And She Is Still Loves Riding. Last summer I was honoured and privileged to take her for one more ride. It absolutely made my day when she asked if she could go for a ride. She said her first time riding was during the war when she was a nurse. Hopefully she will still ride with me again this summer. Sometime you need to take a lesson from someone with wisdom and experience. She taught me you’re never too old to enjoy life. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/album.php?u=6421

The Doctor told me I was doomed and said it’s time for a change. Lost 25 pounds in 5 months. Eat breakfast, no salt, no fat and very little red meat. Lots of fish and chicken I feel 100 times better

It is winter wonder land in Barrie Ontario but I will try the different things you brought up, once the temp raises a bit. Fork oil, brake disk and rim are the next things I will try. Come on spring, every white flake is one too many. I will let you know once I find the fix. Mark

Brad and Eazyduzzit Thanks, I did meet Hal at the Toronto Bike show, good guy and a great ambassador and he hooked me up with this site. So far I have had all that checked by a 5 star dealer. How can I check the drag on the rotors? Do I lift the front end and spin the tire because I can’t feel any thing when I do that. It feels smooth. The tires are new less then 100 miles on them with proper air pressure. The shop seam to think it may be the drive shaft at first but they said everything was fine.
