  1. Brad, drop the cupcake. Besides Cupcake in all this rain we are getting is not a pretty site, where as Squidley seems right.
  2. Great seeing everyone this morning for breakfast. Mollie & I enjoyed the meet with friends, on our 23rd year together. Another hot day for riding, but its Texas. For everyone heading to Ohio, have a safe, fun ride and a great time.. Thanks Don C. for setting this up.
  3. Thanks Kreg for the update on Don. I remember Don was the first VR member to contact me when I first joined this family and invite me to the M & E at Chappel Hill. he made sure to make me fill welcome to the group. Great guy. Prayers sent.
  4. Her schedule changed now gets Sundays off. Besides sunday is our 23rd anniversary, what else do you do, take her to a M & E.
  5. Mollie & I will be there.
  6. I might try to go and see one more. Having to see which one the schedule will work with. Big Bend or Shuttle?? Still a chance the program will be extended. Got the trip down to space center after seeing two launches back to back.
  7. Just got back from my trip to view the latest shuttle launch. I did my first Iron Butt trip leaving thursday from Houston to the Kennedy Space Center to view Launch on Friday. Went 1056 miles in 16 hrs. Great weather for the ride over, met along the way with some fellow Houston riders on Goldwings. Venture rode fine as always, seat did great with Rick Butlers mod. Only lost a highway light by a rock on the way back. Got a little wet on the ride back thru Baton Rouge, and was hot getting back into Texas. Have cleaned the bike and ready to go out again. Here are a few pics of the launch.
  8. Brad, Lonna. Still planning on stopping by on Saturday before I go to work that evening. Hopefully Yamaha will have my parts in by Friday. Rode to Austin yesterday morning, as I pulled into the parking lot of the TV station I am visiting here the Shifter broke at the lower ball pivot under the floorboard. I made a bracket to replace it, works so far. Hope to make it back to Houston tomorrow afternoon, if the fix holds up. I will cage it if bike not ready. See you guys then, PS Mollie has to work that day.
  9. Glad to hear you and the wife are ok. Take care and heal soon. Hope you still get to go to a launch.
  10. I have mine in my pouch on my tank bib. I take it out and put in saddlebag when I need to secure it which not that often.
  11. Brad, Lonna, I will make the ride up to your new place south of Dallas before I have to go into work. Starting evening shift that weekend. Looking forward to seeing your new home. Better yet two new friends.
  12. The bike has some pretty serious damage on the left side and the helmet sure did its job. I am in the need for a one stop repair shop around the LaPorte, Baytown Pasadena area. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I will post some pictures this afternoon. Thanks. Hi Ken, sorry about the raining mishap, the weather sucked on Wednesday on that ride home, so do Houston drivers, rain or shine. Glad to hear you are aok. Thats what counts. As far as a repair shop, will ask around. Good group of VR guys here in the area to help with anything, we just finished the maintenance day at Kbays in Waller today. I am sure we all can pitch in to help, let us know what needs to be done. Send me a PM when you can. Again glad to hear you are ok. Perry
  13. I had the same problem on mine several months back after an oil change. Search on Threads on "Vent Hoses" for info on the problem of over filling a little too much. Just under the half way mark will stop the residue just like everyone suggested.
  14. Thanks for your continued service and your service in the honor guard.
  15. James, glad the bike made it home. This site is the best, great help always. Hope Lynn gets well soon and gets back home. You both take care, stay in touch.
  16. Latest add-on to my 05 midnight venture. Here is my write up on the install with some pics. Installed grip heaters made by Symtec (www.symtec-inc.com) (pic 1). Purchased from http://phatperformaceparts.com for $39.95. After I removed the throttle grip and seen the ribs under the rubber grip (pic 2) had to carve of the ribs off the plastic throttle sleeve in order to attach the heater. Used a box cutter to cut them off, they came off pretty easy. Once I had them removed, attached the heater with the wires at the right position, did not glue the heater as the instructions called for (pic 3). I re-installed the grip over the heater very carefully. The Clutch grip (pic 3a) was a little easier, did have to trim some off the chrome plastic end (pic 3b) to allow the wired end of the heater to fit on the bar. Attached the heater to the bar and slipped the grip over the heater and bar. Wires were long enough to route down the handlebar to the sides of the under the tank. Left some slack on the throttle side(pic 4) to allow movement of the throttle. I removed the tank and seat in order to finish wiring, I installed a relay at the battery area in order to connect to my switch control accessory switch (pic 5) wire which is mounted on left handlebar. I installed this a year ago, purchased from http://www.cruisercustomizing.com It has two push locking switches Top- my red LED lights under bike, Lower- grip heaters, they have a red LED to indicate that they are on. The switches are on an un-switched 12v from the battery. I installed a three position switch on the tank chrome cover(pic 6) for the HI/OFF/LO control, wired the three wire switch to a three pin plug in order so it can removed (pic 7). The three pin connector has 12v from relay, HI & LO wires from heaters. I connected the ground wires from the heaters to a bolt on the frame. I also installed a fuse holder on the 12v from the battery to the relay. They recommend a 3 or 4 amp fuse. I have a 3 amp so far works good. From the first I turned the heaters on, they warmed up pretty fast. Have used them on the cool mornings we have had lately. Wish I would have had them installed before the cold weather hit. I have used them with my regular summer groves and the winter leather groves, great so far. The temperature here is going back up, so LO has been good for now. Time will tell how long these heaters will last; one point for failure will be the wires where they connect to the heaters, especially the throttle side. Luckily we don’t need them very much down here. But since I ride all year round, hope it will make the cold ride into town and back home nicer when I am on the late shift this time of year. My hands were the only parts that were feeling the cold. Hope this write up shows enough. It was fairly easy, about an hour and a half to complete.
  17. Did two rides today with my Brazoria County Cavalry group welcoming a couple of servicemen and women home. Had about 15 bikes that made the ride. Not too bad, nice sunny day, just dressed in layers. Worst thing is that I hit a bump, lid came off my cup in my holder and spilled hot chocolate all over the tank with nothing to clean it up with before getting to the first meet. I hate winter, thats why I moved here over 32 yrs ago. Everyone stay warm and safe out there.
  18. 23, sorry to say. Thanks for the link. Need to remember these facts and more, which makes this country the greatest in the world.
  19. Dave, that was some ride into town this morning. But I had to ride the last day of the year. It has been 1 year as of today that I got my 05 RSV. Put it to bed with 23111 miles for the year. Looking forward to ride more miles and meet more VR members for 2010. Enjoyed the riding and this site thru-out 09. Happy New Year everyone. P.S. Only 315 days till the Big Bend ride again.
  20. I just replaced my stock antennas mainly due to the CB antenna broke off. I went with the Marshall Mod Firestik's. They are not shorter but I like the dual look and they are almost the same height as the stock -1.5" and they are black to match the Midnight Venture. I purchased everything from Wolcott CB. Info listed under the Mod. I didn't use the 12 pre-made cable for the radio, just put another connector on the cable when I removed stock AM/FM antenna. Also as you see in my pics, I used some 90degree elbow Pl-259 connectors to give the bend, and re-used the stock rubber cover. Everything works fine, install was easy, had some help from our fellow VR members (Vance and Owen)who attended a maint day this last Saturday at Kbay's house. Venture 2G Original Marshall Mod Dual kit w/Valor Fold over (Old Style) 2 FL3B Firestik "Firefly" Antenna 2 203EZ - Fold Over Adapter Item: 203EZ 2 StudMount -#JBC930 - Oversize 1 18" 18SMMPL Pre-made Coax Cable (CB) 1 128XMOTO29 RG-8X 12' Pre-made Coax Cable (AM/FM)
  21. Thanks Larry, we enjoyed it. Mollie and I feel the same, ready to go back. Tom, its on my calendar for next year. Great trip with everyone.
  22. I will email you my info. The local dealer replaced mine with one month left on the warranty, no charge.
  23. If you got the time, watch this episode of South Park. Came home last night and my son was watching, got a good laugh. http://www.southparkstudios.com/episodes/251889
  24. Dave, James, Owen. Great day, thanks for the ride down to Galveston with fellow VR members. Great breakfast place. Easy to get separated in the crowd and vendors. Had a great morning and afternoon on the Strand. Seen several more Ventures by the end of the day. Met John from LA with a Midnite 05 like mine. We had a good time watching the bikes go by and talk about the Venture. When we headed home in the evening, rode down the seawall, just as many bikes along the whole route as on the strand. Wow. Our first time there was great, the wife enjoyed very much. Perry & Mollie
  25. Owen, James, Dave, there is no exit on 45S for NASA Rd1(construction), take the Bay Area Blvd exit and go down feeder to NASA RD 1, go thru light, Hooters is on the right 500'.
