Carb Overhaul Costs & Jetting
Reaney in NH replied to Greeny's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I guess my first question is WHY?? Why do you feel they need to be " Gone thru" and WHY do you feel it needs a rejet?? Rejetting is only requiered if you do Intake mods and replace the exhaust system with something that flows better... IE More then slip on mufflers. As for costs... I do all my own service so I really don't know and I'm willing to be when you start calling for quotes you will get responses all over the map... from $300.00 all the way to $800.00 or more. Personally ... I would not just assume just any shop could do this and get it right... I would look for a shop that does alot of performace type work. You may just need a carb sync... It did wonders on mine... I was shocked at how much 10 mins and a couple tweeks of a screw could make. -
Actually... If you must mix Radials and Bias... then you should install the Radial on the back and bias on the front. It was pretty common practice back in the 70's and 80's... when Radials were first becoming popular. You should never run Radials on the front and bias on the rear. Car will handle very poorly and quick stops are dangerous. I recently installed a Kumho car tire on my bike and have a stock Brickstone in the front. The radial feels a bit soft in the back.... not enough to feel unsafe... but certainly different then the M/C tire that I removed. I figures its because its a Radial... its going to feel a little different. I've only ridden about 100 miles on the C/T... but I do know this much... I can Accelerate quicker and stop ALOT quicker without the C/T breaking loose. Cornering at speed is different... Not bad... just different. I've adjusted to it already. Low speed handling in my opinion is BETTER then the M/T. When I replace my Front tire... I will be installing a M/C Radial Rear tire on the front. Prolly will be before our Mn trip in early August. Ok.. I'm done rambling.

I have a nice Trunk... looks like an old school harley trunk. I could sell it cheap. It will bolt to your real rack easily. Its black, has a rack on top. I can get some pics if needed. But I'm thinking around $100.00 including shipping to you in the USA. Interested? Drop me a line and I'll send you some pics. Reaney

Quick in this case does not equal speed... Its more about the way the bike "feels" Coarse corrections, anti sway Etc... Tire size is very close to the same... according to GPS Speedo is still off about 7%.

" Felt a Little Quick" Thats a good description of what it feels like. I will be adjusting down for the next ride. Its raining here today... Supose to clear up later.

Took my RSV out for a short ride (20 miles) yesterday after installing the Kumho car tire on the back. Overall I'm pleased with the handling. I'm still experimenting with air pressure. I started with 40PSI Low speed parking lot handling is good... an improvement over the brickstone it had. In town speeds are great... handling seams nimble by comparison. Highway speeds 60MPH seems almost crisp. Tracks good... smooth.... But feels like its a little harder to maintain a straight smooth line. I'm sure with just a little seat time I will adjust. This reminds me of the old days when Radials were first becoming popular and I installed a set of Radials on the rear of my car and still had Bias on the front... The car handle different. The rear felt strange for awhile. I wonder if its the same thing with the bike... Is it different because its a car tire? Or is it Different because its a Radial? I really think its the Radial and my next step is to find and install a Radial Rear Motorcycle tire on the front. It will be a little while before I can afford it tho. Anybody recommend a RADIAL tire for the front?

Can't get the Drive hub Pins out???
Reaney in NH replied to Reaney in NH's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
WOW... I feel so stupid. Thanks -
I have the rear wheel off to install a Car tire on it and I thought I would grease the Hub pins while its off. However... I can't get them out. They won't budge even a little. I've tried the dual Pry bar... Tried WD40 and a hammer... Is there a trick I don't know? I soaked it down with WD40 before calling it a night. Hopefully tomorrow it will come loose.

Walk into Napa and ask to see thier selection of Vacuem caps. They should have a box full of different sizes.. pick out what you need. the Hose is just a simple Vacuem hose cut to length. Not sure on size... but the hose and the caps will be same size. -
Pipe Diameter should be the same... Not sure on mounts tho... May need to fab something. It should not be very hard tho.

My Wife took the MSC offerred in NH about 3 years ago. I started her out on a 535 Virago... it was cute, very lite and low seat. She loved it... But it just wasn't big enough for the hiway. So after a year on the Virago... I bought her a 2003 750 Honda ACE with windshield and bags. Now she rides her own almost everywhere we go. I'm so proud of her... 50+ years old and still learning new things. She is awesome!!!

What Pipes For A 2000 RSV?
Reaney in NH replied to Donnie1's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
love my bubs... But they get a little annoying after 400 miles in a day. I love the sound... But looking for something quieter for long trips. -
Anybody heard of a TCB Classic? It comes in a 165-80R-15. They said its made by cooper tire. I can buy it local for $56.00

I'm so bummed... My Federal tire exploded while seating the bead. had beads heavily lubed with ruglyde tire lube. Exploded around 100 PSI. Scared about 10 years off my life... but nothing hurt but my pride and my wallet. Guess I'll put the old tire back on until I find another tire. Has anybody tried grinding the huge lip on the wheel off? It would certailnly make beading these up easier... safer too.

What are there demensions? I have shipped some pretty big items thru the USPS to Down under. Who told you they were to large? The USPS or the Company to are ordering from? I would be willing to accept the shipment here... then rebox and ship thru the USPS if it would help. Some companies in the USA either won't or can't deal with the post office... They say its to big of a hassle and the UPS is easier for them. Personally.. I prefer the USPS... especially when shipping out of the country. Let me know if I can help. Reaney in NH

Fuel feed problems PART II
Reaney in NH replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have what may sound like a stupid question... but it would explain your problem. Are you Sure you are switching from "ON" to "RESERVE"?? And not from "RESERVE" to "ON" ? If you are driving with the fuel petcock in the Reserve position and run out of fuel then switching it.... The On position on my bike is the LONG side pointing down ... OFF is the long side pointing Forward... Reserve is Longside pointing UP. Sorry if this sounds dumb... But its a thought. -

Royal Star Venture questions......
Reaney in NH replied to tibadoe's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Others have done a great job of answering your questions... So I will just add my 1.5 cents worth. After owning Several Goldwings, a Harley Road king, Kawasaki Vulcan and several other bikes years ago.... The RSV has them all beat. You will find the RSV to be much smoother then the RK... and have more room to stretch out. Gas Mileage is better... Wind Protection is MUCH better and the RSV is almost maintenance free in comparison to the RK. Its also hard to beat the 5 year unlimited miles warranty. You asked about the RPM at 60MPH... I don't know what it turns... but its like Apples and oranges anyway. Your RK makes its power at LOW Rpm and is barely idling at Hwy speeds... The RSV is a 4 cyl with shorter stroke and makes its power at Higher RPM. When you first ride it you will feel its a dog by comparison... But as soon as you start to Rev it higher in between gears it will surprise you. In my opinion it will easily out excelerate the RK. In my worthless opinion there is nothing offered that beats the RSV in Comfort, Style and dependability. This will most likely be the last bike I ever buy. Mine is a 2001 with only 26K on it. I purchased it this year and fully expect to run it to 150K or more. Try it and you won't go back. Reaney in NH -
Thanks for the tip. But, Being from the Upper midwest where there are NO TOLLS EVER... I don't ride Toll roads. I refuse to give them crooks my money... Just so I can ride on rough roads and get run down by Semi's. I don't have an exact departure yet... I do plan to attend the Rally in WV on my way home... So, to time it out for that, I will Prolly leave Nh on Sunday or Monday June 21 or 22. Thank you to all for the travel tips, Route tips and the warm wishes. See you on the Road. Reaney
