I have seen on other bikes where the owner would take some universal type saddle bag support rails and mount them upside down so that they came up beside the seat and gave the passenger something to hang on to. Just an idea.

preserving 2nd gear
pegscraper replied to Dbeck's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Not hammering the bike in second gear will help it last a long time. You may never have any issues. Many years ago I used to own an XS1100 which I was always told had a tendency for the same problem. I never did have problems with mine though. -
lift adapter 96 classic
pegscraper replied to casabroker's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I use some short sections of 2x4 blocks under the frame of my '96 and it works real well. It's very solid. I'm told this doesn't work so well on the RSV, but I don't quite know why. If you only want to get one frame adapter, get the one for the RSV and use wood blocks for the '96. -
Wow, those guys misunderstand speaker design. So what's next, a Bose Waveradio system molded into the fairing?

Carburetor adjustment
pegscraper replied to Fvogt's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
They are right behind where the brass plugs where. Oh, okay. They are on the inside of the pack. They were designed to not be easy to get to, but they can be reached. It takes a long shank screw driver and you reach the carbs on one side of the bike from the opposite side. You may need to shine a flashlight in there to see them. Do a little looking and you'll find them.- 5 replies

Wow Earl! You're sure having a string of bad luck lately. Bet the boss really doesn't like this one. I guess we won't be seeing you this weekend either. Rest up and get well soon. The world needs you.

FJR.

Very doubtful. Very likely it will leak. A new gasket doesn't cost that much.

I found the friction zone almost nonexistent also after putting in the PCW kit. I blame it on replacing the half disc with a full one. I've had mine for a year now and still haven't gotten used to it. One of these days I will put the half disc back in.

What to check on a '97 Tour Classic?
pegscraper replied to Bummer's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
No it wasn't. Hee hee. You might as well get used to that. Hey Steve, do you have any scrapes on your floorboards yet?- 31 replies

Fork Oil Substitutes
pegscraper replied to 84xj1100's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Motor oil in the forks may feel fine at first but will not last long. It will break down and the forks will be very soft. Motor oil is not designed to stand up in that kind of application. -
rear brake caliper replacement.
pegscraper replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
There you go. Take jonesy's caliper. I wouldn't be afraid of a used caliper. I'd put R1 calipers on the front before I put them on the back. The rear doesn't really need the caliper upgrade at all. The stock one does fine. But I definitely recommend R1 calipers and matching M/C for the front. I have them. The braking power is incredible. -
What to check on a '97 Tour Classic?
pegscraper replied to Bummer's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Double check those RSV handlebars against the stock bars before buying another set. I'm not sure they would set the grips any further back than the stock bars do. The V Star bars are very short. Risers can be a little tricky too, because the top tree is not flat across. But they can be done. I have a set of risers from a Victory on mine.- 31 replies

I probably can't do anything, but I'm going to ask anyway. What do you want for the Tour Deluxe driver's seat featured in picture 3? PM me if you want. Where is Papa Dan's bike? Did it ever sell? I never did hear what happened to it.

Low Fuel Light??
pegscraper replied to ToyOdie's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Mine generally comes on about 20 miles before I find myself hitting reserve. Then I figure I have about another 20 miles before I run out of gas. -
A related FB question - when someone unfriends you, do you get a notification or do they just mysteriously disappear from your friends list?
-
Hmm. You let go of a Royal Star, now you're considering a VROD. I'd say that's going downhill.

Gee, where have these seats been? I might have been interested in them myself. Probably don't have the money though. But I wish I could spend just one day on them and see what they're really like. I have the Corbin dual tour seat on mine and like it as well as anything. I wonder if this and the individual seats feel any different. I have no idea.

What's next?

In another picture of your bike, I spotted a couple more items. The chrome one piece top clamp on your risers is an add on, and the solid cable clamps on your handlebars are not stock either.

What to check on a '97 Tour Classic?
pegscraper replied to Bummer's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Hey, very nice. I like these red and white ones. I think you'll find that this bike makes your V Star feel like a moped. That's what my wife's V Star 1100 feels like to me. So where did the floorboards move to that you are putting them back?- 31 replies

Even lower oil level. Halfway is the most you want. Down at the bottom is better, just enough to where it barely registers on the sight glass that there's something in there.

It's good enough for me. Golf it is.

I live only two miles from our small town where I can do a few matters of business. I will usually ride there and back home in whatever I have on and no helmet. If I go any further than that, I will grab the jacket, jeans and full face helmet. Occasionally I will think that I'd like to ride without the helmet that time, just once in a while. Or I'll wear the beenie helmet we have. But I get further than two miles down the road and I realize I don't like the lack of wind and dirt protection for my face and eyes and I wish I had the full face helmet on anyway. So most of the time I put it on from the start.
