Any '99 or newer RSV engine will work. But don't get one from a Royal Star of which the model line ended in '01. Bad carbs, bad cams, bad transmission gearing, no counterbalancer shaft. You wouldn't be happy.

That can already be done. Ever heard of Skype?

PCW Clutch upgrade question
pegscraper replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, same here, and I'm just about to put my half plate back in. I don't like the reduced friction zone. I've been using it for over a year now and I'm still not used to it. -
Is it my imagination?
pegscraper replied to WAC1972's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
They're identical carburetors. There's no reason they should sound any different, unless the throttle valves on your old ones were stuck and not opening up. That would do it, but you wouldn't have had any acceleration either. Why did you swap them? -
I'm sure glad to hear that I'm not the only one who's been going round and round with banks. I've had more issues with mine that I can even recall anymore, and we're in the middle of trying to iron out another stupid one. I have come to detest automatic deposits and debits too. I don't want anything directly linked to my bank account like that. It gives other parties too much power in my account and my bank doesn't do enough to protect me. If there were any other options around here I'd jump ship. But in our little town there is only one.

Oil Filter cross reference

That is a pretty thorough list. It has been on this board for a long time. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=523 -
My wife said a co-worker thought he felt the building shake a little bit this afternoon. I didn't notice anything at home.

Uncomfortable with heal toe shifter
pegscraper replied to ToyOdie's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
A little paint will keep it from rusting. I cut mine off three years ago. -
I'll let someone who can enjoy Father's Day get this one. There have to be plenty of you out there.

No dad, no kids. But I do have a wild strawberry patch beside my garage. Will wild strawberries count?

Baron's BIG AIR KIT
pegscraper replied to uechi kid's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That kit won't fit your bike. It is made for '96 - '01 Royal Stars which have different carbs than yours does. That kit didn't do anything for those models either. And there is no such kit that will fit your bike - sorry. You could get some pod air filters and rejet the carbs yourself, but you're on your own for jetting. -
I rotate around between stock mufflers and Krome Werks turn outs with baffles and fiberglass packing and the Krome Werks with no baffles and packing. I'll run one way for a while and then decide to change it. I like all three combinations. I find I tend to naturally shift higher with the stock mufflers, and with the loud mufflers I have to consciously do it.

Sounds like maybe a fuel slosh in the bowl problem. I'll ask what might sound like a silly question - is the carburetor setting in its intended orientation - upside is up? What was the intended purpose of the engine? If it was designed for a lawn tractor or something, maybe the carb wasn't designed to handle the sideways force a go cart can put on it and has no way to handle fuel slosh. Just an idea.

who makes white wall tires
pegscraper replied to stevel's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Do I read this right - Avon doesn't make a 150/80R15 rear WW tire anymore? This is a recent change, right? They used to make them. I've had two. That's rather disappointing. -
96 RSTC guts coming out of exhaust
pegscraper replied to bomajoma's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Seeing pictures of the whole mufflers now, yes, those are definitely not stock. No improvement with a jet kit and K&N air filter doesn't surprise me at all. The camshafts and 28mm carburetors on this bike are way, way, way too small for a 1300cc engine. They are such a horrendous restriction that nothing else done to the engine makes any difference until those two primary restrictions are relieved. Larger 32mm carbs from an RSV will fit on the bike with a little work. They're still too small, but they're all that will easily fit in the bike. That and VMX cams will give you about a 50% increase in hp. That's huge. If you're interested, here is the article on the 32mm carb swap. http://www.venturerider.org/carbswap/ -

I'm pretty sure those didn't come out of stock mufflers. If you like the sound without them, then leave them out. -
Makes perfect sense to me.

Why Reverse A Rear Tire When Put On The Front?
pegscraper replied to GlennTuc's topic in The Darksiders
I had an old timer motorcycle mechanic tell me that front and rear motorcycle tires used to be one and the same thing, and the tire would have an arrow pointing one way for front usage and another arrow pointing the other way for rear usage. Compare the direction of the tread patterns of a front tire and a rear tire and you'll find that the tread patterns run opposite of each other. When a rear tire is used on the front, the tire needs to be reversed so that the tread pattern runs the correct direction, the same as a front tire would run, and whoever mounts it by the arrow mounts it backwards. -
who makes white wall tires
pegscraper replied to stevel's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Avon makes a rear tire but not a front one in the stock size. They do make a 130 sized front tire that some of us like. The only other option is Maxxis, but I've heard they get the worst mileage of all. I've gotten around 16,000 miles out of both Avon and Dunlop. I think that's about as good as anything going. -

Can you post a picture? They don't sound like stock mufflers to me. Stock mufflers are welded together with no way to get them apart but cut them. -

Ignition timing, how to?
pegscraper replied to 2Flights's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
There is no pressure sensor on the 2nd gens. Spark timing adjustment based on engine load is measured by the TPS - throttle position sensor. If you have the proper security torx screwdriver, the TPS is adjustable with slotted screw holes, but unless you can measure what you're doing and you know why you want to do it, it's generally better left alone. -
Funny thing, in one of your links I see a link to another article about how to overcome your myspace addiction. Rumor has it that FB is going to start charging a monthly fee for an account. If that happens, then I will agree with the founder's comment and they can shut my account down when I won't pay it.

Mustang Seat for My Royal Star??
pegscraper replied to mellco's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I also have the Corbin dual tour seat. It's not ideal for me really, but it's by far the best thing I've tried so far. I've had it for a few years now and have put a lot of miles in on it. I think the only way I'd do any better is to get a Day Long seat. Seats are such an individual thing. -
If it ever quits raining around here, I might have a shot at this. I haven't been able to get out.
