I receive Hot Rod, Piano Technician's Journal (a trade magazine for piano tuners), and AudioXPress, which is a culmination of what Audio Amateur, Glass Audio, and Speaker Builder used to be. It's for those who like to build their own audio equipment, or at least modify commercial pieces. I'm in the middle of building a vacuum tube preamp and amplifier. My current system is a Fisher 400 vacuum tube stereo that must be over 40 years old now, run through my own transmission line speakers. Oh, did you mean motorcycle magazines? None I've seen interest me. Too many other interests.

I see it vaporized already, but I saw it last night. A thank you button might be okay, although I doubt I'd use it. If I want to thank someone, I'll come right out and say it. But thanks and thanked counters? No thanks. That would be about like the post counters that got deleted and the attended rallies counter that didn't last long either. At this moment for me the word thank has gone through my head enough times that it is starting to lose its meaning and just sound silly.

Need a little help.

I'd say more ignition switch trouble. You turned the key off and back on, and it went away for a while. Similar symptoms occasionally happen to mine also. I switch the key off and on a couple times and then it'll start up with a loud bang in the exhaust from unburned gas going through. It's never died on me while running though. Nuisance. -
This doesn't strap the kid to the bike. It straps the kid to you.

Here's a device I've seen available. A harness goes around the child and you wrap the main belt around yourself. There's also a small handlebar in between for the child to hang on to. I have no experience with it. http://www.childridingbelt.com/

We had a tornado watch here last night too. Nothing happened though.

There you go. That's just exactly what the problem is. Only when they're not ridden do they do this.

Most likely the rubber plugs behind the finned covers are leaking. It's not uncommon on this bike, especially in cooler weather. Take the covers off and tape a piece of metal or something for shim onto the boss on the backside of the covers that holds those plugs in place. Then when you reinstall the covers, it will shove the rubber plugs in a little farther.

Welcome aboard, from a northeastern Hoosier. I hope that bike works out for you.

Is this what you're looking for? This isn't my bike, but similar. This will be a '96 or a '97. The ebay item you're looking at won't fit an older Royal Star. I'm assuming your bike is a '97? Where's your gallery? We got rules around here, fella. Like number one is ya gotta post pics of your bike. Let's see some more early Royal Stars.

The original idea is too verbose. A punk won't even bother to read all that. I like "you loot, I shoot". Short and to the point. There's no way to not read all of it.

Tachometer for RSV
pegscraper replied to Silver Dollar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yes, there are aftermarket tachs available. You'll want to rev it up more than you did your V twin. This bike is rev limited at about 7500 rpm, and it doesn't hurt anything at all to run it up to that. You should be able to get to around 85 or so in second gear before hitting the limiter. Average shift points would be around 25, 40, 50, and 60. That assumes a top speed of 60. If your top speed will be higher or you want to go a little faster, stretch them out some. Or for a lower top speed shorten them up. You probably already know that much. This bike is geared very high; fifth gear is an extreme overdrive. Whatever speed you're going to run, don't shift up into fifth gear until you're all done accelerating. The engine is basically a detuned V Max engine. Don't be afraid to wind it up. Yes, most of us are patiently waiting for better weather. -
They can't change part throttle emissions, which means they can't change anything about the way it runs at part throttle. The only thing they can change is the WOT setup. You'll only notice a change in the way it runs if you drive with your foot on the floor all the time.

Those halogen lights are pretty fragile too. Don't bump those very hard when they're hot or you'll be in world of darkness. Fluorescent light bulbs suck. They don't make as much light when they're warm, and don't even bother trying to use one when it's 10* outside. This bill going through Washington right now banning incandescent light bulbs needs to fail. Stop global Goring!

Parler vous francais? Je n'est parle pas francais. And I'm not sure I even got that much right.

I thought we said no motorcycle accidents for this year. Glad you are okay. I'm curious how you were intending to get back home with the bike though. We're getting a lot of snow and ice and extremely cold temps here, and MI can't be any better.

Wobbely Goblin, sort of.
pegscraper replied to straight pipe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You mention that you've checked the steering and it doesn't seem loose. Just how tight is it? The steering bearings should be tight enough that when the bike is up on a jack with the front wheel off the ground, the front end will stay wherever you put it, even off center. If it falls over towards a one stop or the other, it's too loose and it will cause this kind of problem. Y is really bad for not getting the steering bearings tight enough. -
No motorcycle wrecks.

RSV Carb Intakes
pegscraper replied to Rick Butler's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Notice how the top of the base is where cracks appear first and where they get the biggest. The ring of cracks can be seen in that area on the intake on the right. -
Once again, the no horsepower people are looking down their noses at those who like a lot of horsepower. If you want better gas mileage and don't care about horsepower, go get a scooter.

I've done both and like it. Some don't like both. It's a matter of how much improvement you want to make to the handling.
-
Let us know how you like them. If they work out well, that price can't be beat. I notice something else too. Since each glove takes four AA batteries which means 6 volts, these could be wired up in series and connected to the bike's battery, using them either way.

I didn't make it out yesterday, but I got a ride in today. It was only about 40* but it was sunny and the roads are clear. I hadn't been on it for three or four weeks, and the first few miles felt strange. I'd be just as happy if we didn't get any more snow this winter at all.

Sixty volts? Sixty watts maybe. And the carb heaters are completely unneeded.
