  1. That doesn't appear to be true on mine. It looks like the battery drops right out the bottom. I may be mistaken, but I'm not going to try it at the moment to find out.
  2. Are you sure about that? The horns look like they're facing the same direction on the unit to me.
  3. I wouldn't know how difficult a switch would be. I've never used anything but a Mac. My wife chose that for graphics arts work, because PC stuff doesn't do the same job and isn't compatible with Mac software and costs more when taken to a professional printer because they have to completely redo the job on Mac equipment because PCs aren't compatible. PC people will deny that, but that's the way it is. Macs are compatible with PCs, but not vice versa. Yet somehow the idea is that PCs are compatible with everything. All the printers, scanners, extra drives, or whatever else have always worked fine with Mac stuff. Usually they don't even require installing their own drivers to operate them. I've never had to install the software that comes with stuff to use it. I wouldn't go to a PC for anything.
  4. With that ugly sticker on it and not being the chrome unit, I'd leave it hidden in the fairing, especially if he's happy with how loud it is.
  5. On that bike, 8300 rpms in fifth gear would have to be about 135 mph. The '81 XS1100 I had wouldn't allow you to get even close to that. Anything above about 90 mph and it would get unstable. It had a full fairing with bags and trunk. I always blamed it on wind turbulence.
  6. I didn't know that one either. So while you're at it Don, could those features in the search link on the left side be added to the search link on the top bar? I wonder why these two search links were different in the first place. Not that you really needed anything else to do.
  7. Don, have you given any more thought to putting a link to a member's profile straight from their photo gallery? I still think this would be really nice.
  8. You know, that bike is growing on me. I like it better without the trunk on it too.
  9. I've done mine myself, and I would have said that they were facing toward each other. I may be remembering wrong by now. I'm not sure that it matters really. The point of it is to make sure that the valves and shims are on the base circle of the cam and not on the ramps or the nose anywhere. BTW, you really need to learn how to use an apostrophe. There should not be one single apostrophe in your whole post. Having all those in there is not only incorrect, but it makes it difficult to read.
  10. We have a Mac Book laptop, not the Air model though. But I really like it.
  11. You're still welcome. You wouldn't be the only one around here who sold a Venture and got a GW. Freezyrider did the same thing here last summer, and he still visits. He joined us on a ride late last fall.
  12. Al, do you use stick on type weights, or something else? Where do you get them?
  13. You missed the one or maybe even two that sit up on the back. And Dan's pic is a photoshop job.
  14. Mine's bigger than yours.
  15. I'm also a member of the kill switch club. Now I've rewired the kill switch to operate the passing lamps. It's the first time for me that a kill switch has had any purpose. Cars don't have them. Why does a bike need it?
  16. And you guys make fun of us second genners for looking like HDs? They are nice looking bikes. I like them. But four cylinders beats two any day.
  17. I pick up the Midwest Motorcyclist flyer mag, as it's free in most dealers around here. I think it comes out of MI. I breeze through them pretty quickly though. It can also be downloaded online free. You'll want a high speed connection for that though. Otherwise it'll take an hour and a half. http://www.midwestmotorcyclist.com
  18. I didn't get out yesterday, because I didn't have anywhere I had to go. But I was out every other day this week except Tuesday, the day it rained all day long and flooded everything. If the roads and weather are clear, I ride. The cold doesn't stop me. Gotta minimize my gas cost whenever I can. Friday I stopped at the local small town bank branch for a bit of business. It was maybe 35*. All the gals in there know me and get a chuckle out of how long into the winter I keep riding. The one who helped me that day asked me if got out on my bike earlier in the week when the weather was so warm. (Last Monday we hit a record high of 64*, but it only lasted a day and a half). I just chuckled and pointed out the window to my bike. "Whaddayamean earlier this week?"
  19. I like the K grips myself. They do take a bit of getting used to. I suppose it's because they're not perfectly round as the pads don't run all the way around the grip, or one finger will set in a gap rather than on a pad, or something. I've never had any trouble with my hands turning black on them. Must be a bit of a product variation on that somehow. I do like the larger diameter of them, and the looks. With a bit of work, they can be used with the stock handlebar weights. My next step will be to put K's long fringe into the ends of the weights somehow. I haven't figured that one out just yet.
  20. Welcome aboard. Yes, a Valk is probably the king of cruisers and will take out nearly anything that's not a sportbike. I agree with you on the top end on our bikes. They run out of breath too quickly. The cams and carbs are really too small for this size engine. However, the V Max cams are a drop in fit. They'll give you about 20* more duration and a bit more lift, and they'll help out the top end some, but they're not big enough yet to lose anything on the bottom. Bigger carbs are a little tougher.
  21. This is Eck's bike here, isn't it? Oh.
  22. Maybe too, some of the stuff in the watering hole like videos, threads on riding gear, and other technical stuff could be put in other folders where they belong. Too much stuff gets dumped into the watering hole where it's difficult to go back and find anything simply because of the volume of stuff in there.
  23. I heard this elsewhere. I also see on their website that all warranties will end on Dec. 31, 2008.
  24. I'm sure there is a lot of jibber jabber that can be unloaded, especially in the watering hole. Please try not to delete too much of the technical stuff.
  25. Search for "Corbin (backrest, back rest)" on ebay and you'll find all kinds of less expensive alternatives. It's just a piece of 5/8" (I think) square steel stock, chromed or maybe stainless, with a pad stuck on top. Corbin does pocket of money when they sell a new backrest.
