Could videos please be put in the video folder where they can be found again, instead of dumping everything in the watering hole where things get lost due to volume? I do not have high speed at home where I can watch stuff like this. Occasionally I will take the laptop to the library where I can watch videos like this and do other very large file downloads. But I have to be able to find the video again.

Okay, what does V have on it that IV doesn't?

The last time I did mine, I asked the local Y dealer if they would trade shims. The head mechanic said no, because they wear down. They can run their business however they want, but I've never heard tell anywhere of one showing wear. Well it looks we already have someone basically running a shim bank. I didn't know about it, and I've been around here for a while. How is a new guy supposed to find out?

I'd use it for the sole sake of thwarting Big Brother. I don't purposefully run a red light, but I don't want any automated tickets either. If I break a law, then talk to me face to face. Big Brother is getting all too real. TV screens in banks, and I'm sure there are the pinhole cameras to go with them, this stuff is not needed and not wanted. Those who haven't read the book "1984" need to do so.

For anyone who watched the Animaniacs. And now, from Dot's poetry corner... ahem. Roses are red Violets are blue That's what they say But it just isn't true Roses are red And cherries are too But violets are purple Violets aren't blue An orange is orange, But Greenland's not green, A pinky's not pink, So what does it mean To call something blue When it's not we defile it But oh, what the heck It's hard to rhyme violet

For those who check their own valve clearances and occasionally need a different size shim, how about the idea of someone on the board here running a valve shim bank, where unneeded sizes could be traded in for a needed size, with the only cost being shipping? These things cost a lot new, and I figure there have to be some laying around not needed by one guy that another guy could use. Thoughts? Yay? Nay?

Dyna Beads - Tire Balancing
pegscraper replied to KeithR's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I was wondering about using some plastic beads about the size of marbles. No chance of plugging the valve with those. I know the principle works. An old hot rodder's trick (or maybe a shade tree mechanic's trick) for shortening a driveshaft is to put a couple quarts of oil inside it before welding the thing back together, and call it good. A liquid (or other moveable weight) inside of a spinning object like that will find its own balance. I have a set of balancing rings with beads inside of them that are designed to be mounted on car wheels attached behind the lug nuts. I haven't seen these things in years. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? I suppose I could snap a pic. -
driver's power plug
pegscraper replied to pegscraper's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Okay, I guess it's a CB/intercom connection. My bike, being a "Venture lite", doesn't have the thing, so I didn't know what it was for sure. How is it attached to the handlebars, or underneath the seat? -
I'll email my wife a picture of some flowers today at work. Nah, I guess I'll do more than that.

Dyna Beads - Tire Balancing

I should have also asked what they are made out of. Plastic? Lead? If they can be put in before mounting, why not use something a little larger that wouldn't have the possibility of plugging the valve? -
Huh? Sounds like you're talking to yourself.

What diameter are these beads? -
I'm thinking I've read where some of you have taken the power plug off of the tank and put it somewhere else less unsightly. I'd like to know where some of you have put it.

Nitrogen filled tires
pegscraper replied to geresti's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Hear, hear!! All the hype that you hear about nitrogen getting you better gas mileage is just that, propaganda and balderdash. I wouldn't even use it if the tire shop puts it in free with the purchase of tires. They didn't get the stuff free; they're not going to give it away. You pay for it in the price of the tires. Don't fall for this stuff. -
It'll probably work nice. But I'll betcha it still takes longer than that.

I don't think that's a solo seat per se. It's just the regular factory seat set with the rear seat removed. That can be done with virtually any two piece seat. The question to ask is, do you like the stock seat?

We currently have 10.4.11. Last summer we had 10.3.x and then the computer crashed, and the replacement came with the latest OS. I had never had any problems with 10.3 on this site, although ebay was giving me some messages that my browser was outdated(!) and some features might not work, but even it never gave me any trouble. I never used the forward or back buttons on the browser window. I used a mouse with extra buttons that I programmed with the keyboard commands for forward and back. I don't know if that makes any difference or not. It shouldn't. Other than that, I don't know what to say. I'm nowhere close to being a computer whiz. OS 10.3 is not that old, not old enough to be giving trouble.

I'm not sure what to tell you, my friend. I use Safari on a Mac and it has never crashed like that. Internet Explorer is a nuisance though, and I don't bother with it. What Mac OS are you using?

I suppose with a trailer attached the hitch wouldn't be so noticeable. Post some pics of the bike. I'd like to see it. My wife rides an '02 1100 Classic.
-
Yes, the V Star line hasn't changed since they came out. Any year of the same model will be the same. There are differences between the custom and classic models though. Some stuff will interchange and some will not. You didn't mention which you have. I would figure that a trailer hitch probably won't fit both. A trailer hitch on a custom? That would kind of kill the look of the duck butt fender, wouldn't it?
-
I don't know why not. The mounting holes in the fender are in the same place. Yamaha still has them for the newer TDs. Or else watch for them on ebay.
-
Yeah, we really feel for you, buddy. I haven't been on mine in a month, and that was only because we got a couple fluke accidental warm days in January. Prior to that it had been about six weeks. We're hurting for you.

pilot mixture screw
pegscraper replied to sleadhed's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Alrighty then. Stomp on me, will y'all? These carbs were a swap on my bike anyway. And when I got them, the caps were already gone. I don't know what they look like. I'd heard that they had to be pulled out with pliers. I never figured they could be pried out with a screwdriver with the carbs still in the bike. How do you catch the caps then, and keep them from falling down in the valley somewhere, or do you just let them fall and don't worry about where they go? -
All I know to suggest is the universal ubiquitous answer - keep your eyeballs in ebay. I see sets go by there from time to time. I picked up an extra set there myself.

pegscraper replied to sleadhed's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The caps are on the inside of the carb pack. You're pretty well going to have to pull the carbs out to remove the caps. Once the caps are off though, the pilot screws can be adjusted on the bike without disassembling anything again.
