  1. Hey guys, what is today? For those in Rio Linda, highlight the white space below. How to stabilize left over gas stabilizer? Freezy was wise here, but the rest of you are funny. And that response to Freezy's post... April Fool!
  2. Spring time is here. The bike is back out. I've gone through three or four tanks of gas now, so the gas stabilizer is well flushed out of the tank, carbs, and all the lines. But I still have some remaining unused gas stabilizer in the bottle on the shelf. Is there anything I can do to keep this stuff from going bad before next winter as it sets in the bottle doing nothing? I don't want to find a bottle of gummy varnish that needs cleaned out next winter when it's storage time again. Should I put some gas in the bottle and top it off, so that there's no air in the bottle to break down the gas stabilizer? In short, I just want to know how to stabilize the gas stabilizer for the summer storage months.
  3. Oh ouch dude. Sure glad nothing was scratched. Sometimes scratches on the bike are more painful than scratches on yourself. I have found that my sharp, low speed cornering skills are down this spring too. I haven't dumped it yet, but I can tell I'm unstable and lack the confidence to do it to the level that I could before. I need to get out and tighten up.
  4. It hasn't been done here, but a couple guys on the Delphi Royal Star board have done it. The biggest issues are what to do for an air filter, carb jetting, and getting the TPS hooked up. Is his engine blown, or is he just looking for more power? If more power is the goal, it would be easier and cheaper to just swap cams and carbs rather than the whole engine. With just the cam and carb swap, I'm getting a dyno proven 90 rear wheel hp out of my '96, which is in the neighborhood of about 15 more than the Ventures are doing, depending on whose dyno you want to believe.
  5. Man, if only I could find a car tire with white walls on both sides. I'd like to be doing this and not be spending such ridiculous money on motorcycle tires that don't last. Gotta have my WWs though, like Indiana Jones gotta have his hat. My bike just doesn't look right without them.
  6. My wife rides a V Star 1100 Classic. It's just the right size for her. I'll get on it once in a while just to make sure everything is operating okay, and I always feel like I'm on a moped. But is the V Star 1300 really any bigger?
  7. That thing isn't a ferris wheel. When the fair shows up in our local park, that is called The Zipper.
  8. I hate to even say. I'll put the kiss of death on myself. I have just over 45,000 miles with nothing but general maintenance and voluntary modifications for more power.
  9. Like them. Yes, the bars will vibrate more without the weights in them, but with a little custom work the stock weights can be used with the K grips. Or you can get K's own end weights for them. Some folks say they like those.
  10. Wow, that's great. I doubted that one would actually fit our bikes because the frame is so narrow there. You'll have to let us know how it rides and handles now. What would the next size wider be? Some of your pictures aren't showing up. Does that tire have raised white letters on it? Good thing you greased everything while it was apart, because it will be a while before you have to take it apart again. The rear tire might outlast the bike. For those of us who like white walls, I have wondered if porta walls could be used. They've been around for decades. I see them on ebay. I've never seen one right in front of me though. I wonder what they'd look actually look like.
  11. Not everybody wants fuel injection. More charging current and reverse would be nice.
  12. I'll second those books. I've read them and gave away a few of them for Christmas this past year. Usually they can be found in a public library.
  13. Hey guys, if this is going to work, y'all will have to pay attention here. If you read the entire thread, you'll see that the covered bridge has been done. The new target is a caboose. You, your bike, and a caboose.
  14. I believe the rules say that the rider has to be in the picture. You, your bike, and a caboose.
  15. How do you know?
  16. Flushed out with new brake fluid, but did you use stuff from the same bottle as last time? A bad batch of brake fluid maybe, that has already absorbed moisture and is rusting the pistons? I suppose it's not impossible. I wonder if a different bottle of fluid would do anything different. WAG really. I don't know what to think.
  17. I've taken wheels and new tires to two different dealers around here and gotten whacked both times. The dealer with the nicest looking storefront and spiffiest showroom charged me the most. Probably the cheapest way to go is to find an independent shop, a one man shop who works on anything and everything. He'll have the least overhead. I found an independent guy near me who will mount and balance tires brought to him for $20 a piece plus cost of balance weights. Last Saturday he charged me $43 to do two wheels for the wife's V Star 1100. I don't think it gets any less than that anywhere. He'll be seeing me around again.
  18. But I don't see you or your bike in that picture. C'mon, y'all knew with a covered bridge as the first target that it had to be me, the one who hosted the covered bridge ride last Nov. 3. (I think that whole thread has been deleted now in the interest of conserving board space.)
  19. PM on its way. That pic did turn out better than I thought it would. Lori was ill today and couldn't go down with me to take it. I ended up propping the camera up on one of the posts that's rammed into the ground in front of the bridge to keep traffic off of it, and then using a stick to level and aim the camera. The ten second timer just barely gave me enough time to run up there and jump on. In fact in this pic, I was still getting the bike into balance and shifting my weight and I looked up just in time to see the flash go off. I figured that one was no good, so I did another one that went better, but then I ended up using the first one anyway. I liked it better. It's been in the 40s and 50s around here for several days. Our snow is gone. The water does look high in that pic, doesn't it? It didn't strike me as being that high when I was there. I didn't know if I had to take a picture myself of what the next target had to be. I didn't see it as being a rule, so I didn't. I wonder if it might be a fun additional rule though. I could have done it. There are two cabooses within ten miles of me, and a couple more within an hour's ride. I rode by one of them on my way back home. What I really wanted to pick was an old round barn, but I figured they are really too rare for there to be much competition.
  20. I WIN! I WIN! Taken about an hour ago. Next picture has to be by a caboose. It doesn't have to be on tracks anymore. Not many of them are. It could be converted into a restaurant or something. But it has to be a real caboose.
  21. Everyone will like something different in seats. A lot of folks like the pillow tops. They seemed like such a holy grail, so I tried a set, but they would just about kill me. I wound up with the Corbin Dual Tour seat which fit me beautifully right out of the box, no breaking in needed.
  22. He lives!
  23. It's there, but it is a bit farther down than the rest of the 15s. http://arizonamoto.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SWMT&Product_Code=310555&Category_Code=D404 I ordered tires from there last Monday, and they were on my porch Tuesday afternoon, from AZ to IN. That's dang quick.
  24. Oh, don't even tempt things like that. Last spring we had a daggone blizzard on April 15th, right in the middle of our neighborhood garage sale weekend. We missed all the snow you got last night, but we got freezing rain and ice instead. We had some wicked sounding thunder overnight too. I put nearly 100 miles on the bike yesterday though. Now there's probably salt back out on the roads and we'll have to get another good rain to wash it away.
  25. Instead of "very nice looking mufflers", maybe I should say sharp looking mufflers. Heh heh. Now all you need to do for that pic above is take the shot at night and hold a match up behind you.
