  1. The ignition themselves switches are different. But remarkably they did have the same problem. They get flaky after a time. I would still look at that.
  2. So SUV's are insensible vehicles? What a pile of steaming hot BS. Who are you to dictate what is sensible to drive? What difference does it make what someone else drives? The price of gas is too high no matter what you drive. Even if I ride a bicycle all day the price of gas is too high.
  3. If you happen to be a machinist or have a friend who is, this can be done for a fraction of that cost. Get a rear gear housing unit from a V Max and machine out the spot for the speedo sensor. The original one can be used as a pattern, and then sold off. I have a grand total of $5 in this swap. Y'all might also like to know that the whole rear end housing will just fit in a USPS flat rate box, shipped anywhere in the country for $9 and some change. USPS loses money on this one.
  4. Are you going for looks, or performance, or safety? For looks I'd get the chrome carburetor covers. The Ventures I see without them look like there's something missing in there. For performance get the V Max rear gear. As far as acceleration goes, you'll think the bike just dropped 200 lbs. For safety, I'd recommend swapping for the R1/R6 front brake calipers and a master cylinder to match. As far as stopping distance goes, again, you'll think the bike just dropped 200 lbs. There's no substitute for strong front brakes. Even after this stuff you'll have plenty left to do some other things. These would be a bare minimum for me.
  5. With a little work you can get them back on. Either grind some metal out of the ends of the K grips so the shoulders on the weights will go through them, or remove the shoulder on the weights by grinding or turning on a lathe. With the latter, you'll have to use loctite on the threads to hold the weights in place. The latter is what I did here.
  6. Just make sure to pack some of the warmness in your suitcase with you when you come back.
  7. We're not the ones who said they couldn't pull the front wheel up. HD riders themselves said it. Check the very first post here. What I said was that I wasn't surprised they might say that.
  8. Yup, looks like you found the tech pages alright. Nice work. There's nothing boring about looking at other's bikes. There's not much else to do today anyway, other than plan more mods, which is what I'm doing. It's drizzling and cold here too. My mods are usually aimed at more power. I hope to meet you at Dons' maintenance day.
  9. And the 1st genners think our bikes have no power. Really they're just dreaming. I've been just waiting for this to happen to me, with the way I've warmed up my bike. And I'm not done warming it yet. Actually I'm afraid of pulling the wheel up, and when I gas it that hard, I will lean forward to help keep it down. I'm sure I could make it come up if I wanted to, like Squeeze says. But I really don't want to. Is anyone really surprised that a HD rider didn't think that a big bike could do that? No.
  10. I'll have to check JCW out for tires. SWMoto has stopped carrying the WW version of Avon Venoms. Claims he's had too many returns on them. I bought one set from him and I haven't had any trouble out of mine, and I'll buy them again. But I guess I can't buy them from him. I'll have to look elsewhere. I've since bought some blackwalls from him for Lori's bike. His service is good. But if he wants to sell me some tires for my bike, he'll have to carry what I want to buy.
  11. Are our bikes even heavy enough to put the wheel on the ground when the tire is totally deflated?
  12. Jumping then maybe? These aren't dirt bikes, ya know.
  13. Wow, you really need to lay off the throttle. Seriously, this is the first I've heard of this happening. I don't know what to suggest.
  14. That is an interesting idea. I like one off custom work like this. Anyone can order more chrome out of Yamaha's accessories catalog or Kuryakyn's catalog or whatever. But stuff like this is truly "making it your own", as Y says.
  15. I hope you can ride the bike down. If you can handle whatever weather we get on Sunday, the rest of the week sure looks better. Yes, temps in the 40s are manageable, as long as it's sunny. But in the 40s and wet is pretty tough.
  16. The cops were ordered to stay out of donut shops and the donut shops are going out of business? Wow, that's bad. Evidently there was a reason they had to be ordered to stay out of donut shops.
  17. Indeed, New Corydon is a tiny little town in the middle of nowhere, where other tiny little towns go to dump their garbage.
  18. I can't say that I know Eden Green is.
  19. Oh that's a fabulous title for a thread. That ought to attract all kinds of pot stirring. Nice to have a substantial enough tire to be able to put a plug in it, eh?
  20. I'm about ten minutes off the southeast side of town. Curvy roads are few and far between, but there are a few. There are plenty of ice cream joints around though. Look us up when you know more. Three weeks, eh? We can get a lot of riding in during a stretch like that. There have to be a few other Ventures around here somewhere. The dealers are selling them to somebody. But I sure don't know who or where they are. Hey Freezy, we ought to make sure to show him Indiana's best, New Corydon.
  21. It must be some difference in the filter itself. There's no difference in the bike. The one Yamaha filter I cut apart to look at had a terrible filter element in it. I'd never buy another one. Here's a list of aftermarket filters that will fit. Our bike falls into category 5 way down at the bottom. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=523
  22. Here's a front wheel with a Dunlop D404 tire on it, for about the cost of a new front tire, depending on what you get I suppose. They also had the rear wheel as well. With a second set of wheels, you can get new tires without any downtime at all, just put the new tires on your spare set. That is assuming you get your old one back. What a drag. Ebay item #130213287004.
  23. I told y'all to check the camber and caster adjustments on the bike this year as part of a spring checkup program before you start riding. Having the front wheel out of alignment will cause uneven tire wear.
  24. Nice to hear a good dealer story once in a while. So often we hear bad ones. Glad we could help you out.
  25. Maybe the throttle cables need a little lubrication, or they're adjusted too tight and they need a little slackening?
