What are the tags for at the ends of threads? I see the box on the reply page for tags. How would I put one in if I wanted to? What sort of text does a tag take?

The switch box doesn't have room for the relay. It's just as easy to do the rest of the wiring where the relay is. Without checking a wiring diagram and doping everything out, I didn't know where the power on the RUN circuit comes from or how much extra current it could handle. A relay doesn't take much, I know. But I preferred to keep all add ons and extras on their own circuits and fuses.

Yup yup yup. A switch can generally be wired up to operate just about anything. Boy, you keep track of me pretty good there, Squeeze. I didn't use just one side of the switch though. I cut both RUN wires loose from the switch in the headlight bucket, soldered them together and taped them up. I wired up the kill switch to operate a relay which operates the lights. It's the first time this switch has ever had any purpose at all.

Does anyone have a 2nd gen stator lying around that they could measure the maximum outside diameter for me? I know a couple of you here have replaced the stator in this engine. Still have your old spare handy?

"Increased engine efficiency." Really? Good breathing efficiency requires a nice straight air flow path. The air path is always changing direction in those things. "Substantially lower emissions." Oh really? How? Probably because the breathing efficiency is so bad. If it can't get air and fuel in, it won't be putting any exhaust out either. This is nothing more than an eye catcher. "Reduced lubrication requirements." With that much sliding surface area? Not buying it. Especially on the exhaust side with the high temperatures. Our standard valves don't require any lubrication at all. "Reduced manufacturing costs." A ha! Here's the ringer. Fewer moving parts and cheaper and easier to make. And if it only lasts 30,000 miles, that means that they can sell another one before very long. Good for the manufacturer. Not good for the consumer. Anyone remember the Wankel? "Adaptable to multiple fuel types." So is most any other engine. Nothing more than another eye catcher.

If you're getting that much oil in the airbox, it sounds like the crankcase is way too full of oil. High crankcase oil level will cause it to spew up the breather tube and into the airbox and all over everything else. The oil level should be halfway up the sight window at the most. Just over the lower limit is better. Any higher than halfway and you will certainly have such problems. Many dealers will tend to overfill this engine. Simply pull the drain plug and let some out.

Doing tire changes, are you? Will you install a car tire?

You might double check the heat range of the plugs. If the heat range is too high, the plugs will look mostly white even if the mixture is correct.

A winter project starting at the end of May? Boy, that Arctic Circle must extend south a little farther than I thought.

You're not the first one to say the wind now blows the bike around more. I gotta say though, I don't understand the comment. I didn't find that to happen at all when I went to the narrower front tire. It took me all of thirty seconds to learn the handling of a new set of tires over the old ones.

Oh no! The sky is falling! Again. Their explanation of why motorcycle tires don't get very good mileage does not hold water. You can theory away all you want to. But the test results are not bearing out the theory. Test results from all kinds of people, on all kinds of bikes, and all kinds of riding conditions, over quite a period of time now. Pretty far from just one isolated incident. A real scientist or engineer, given enough test results that don't fit his theory, will realize that something is wrong with the theory and adjust his theory to fit the test results. He won't continue to propound a theory that doesn't match up with test results. All these theories based no experience have been read and considered and reread ad nauseam. If you don't want to run a CT, then don't. Take your dead horse and go flog it somewhere else. Here's a fun picture. Yup, pretty much a CYA answer. Our bike has the widest front tire of any metric bike going. Numerous other bikes this size are using a smaller front tire than we use. To say that they can't recommend a smaller tire just because it isn't what the manufacturer used is silliness.

They even make airport modems too. Ours also blew up a couple weeks ago from lightning. I don't have a replacement yet, so for the moment I have to go to a public library or other wifi spot. What a PIA!

We used to be able to hold the cursor over someone's state flag it would show what state it was. Did we lose this because of the server change? Can it be put back? I used that a lot.

It happens to me once in a while too. About all you can do is shut the engine off and let the mercury down and start over.

I was on both 62 and 135 today, but it doesn't sound like the crowd you saw. I was with a GW, a Kawasaki, and a Roadstar. I did see one other blue and black RSV at a gas station. The weather doesn't get any better than it was today. The roads were absolutely packed with bikes. Yes, 62 is a fantastic ride. Too bad I live so far away from it.

That's bizarre. The PM functions for me are exactly the same as they always were. Why would they be different for different users? I haven't had the time to look into the profile thing yet.

The carbs and cams on the early Royal Stars are way, way too small for this engine's displacement. They are better on the later Ventures, but IMO still not big enough. The V Max itself has even bigger cams and carbs, on a smaller engine than ours. Since the engine is basically the same thing... V Max cams and valve springs are a drop in fit. The later Venture carbs will also fit pretty easily. There is a link for the tech article on that in my gallery. Unfortunately, the V Max carbs won't fit without a major amount of modification and work. After that, the V Max rear gear will give you a little better gear ratio in the back. These three things will turn your bike into a real hot rod. I would do the first two things first though. I still think there's room for more though. I'm still playing around a bit, but haven't accomplished anything yet. BTW, we only have one real rule around here, and that is to post pics of your bike. So let's see some. I really like the early Royal Stars myself. For some reason I'm kinda partial the '96.

Exactly what year and what bike do you have? No gallery. We can't tell. Here's a bike I like with some different style bars on it. I've seen this style of bars on several other Royal Star too. -
An H basket? Did this have something to do with the chirp? Usually the basket folks want is the I. I've heard that PCW Racing makes a nice clutch kit. It is probably only listed for a V Max, but our clutch is the same thing. http://www.pcwracing.net/

I don't know what material they are. A snarling box of rocks? Only one other time I heard a guy describe his front brakes like this. He ended up getting some floating rotors from a newer Roadstar to stop the problem. I hope you have better luck with the new pads.
