Avon tires on 1998 RSTC?
pegscraper replied to Tatonka's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
When you're in the area, give me jingle and maybe we can get together for a ride or something. We have a number of members in the Indy area too. Those 32mm carbs unleash a lot of bottled up energy in these early Royal Stars. Bigger cams help a lot too. -
Off by one year. She does real well if she can manage this bike. These are heavy bikes.

I don't know where to find them, so I'll throw them out here. Is this what you're looking for?

Avon tires on 1998 RSTC?
pegscraper replied to Tatonka's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I've had the Avons on my '96 front and back. They fit fine. This is one area where the design of all these models is basically the same. -
What is she riding? I'm going to guess about a '98 Royal Star?

Yes, I was being nice on someone else's bike. (Did you notice the guy who butted out in right front me on one of those round-a-bouts?) My bike, on the other hand, has scrape marks on the kickstand. One day I'm going to touch down the passenger floorboards. Bob and I were talking about the unstable feeling in the front end of his bike. We both noticed it. The thing got shaky and wobbly on me many times on the highway, and I didn't even have to lift one hand up for it to happen. And if I did, it was almost guaranteed. We both mentioned it to Steve, and he said he would get the bearings adjusted - when he gets to riding again. Bob wondered if it might have been tire air pressure. I never thought to check that. I should have. Low tire pressure wouldn't have helped anything. Your bike turning stiffer most likely means that it's much more stable on the road. I have mine tightened up pretty good too.

That does look sharp on that bike.

WWs courtesy of dbtires. They aren't painted. They are real WW material, vulcanized onto the tire. They can do literally any tire, which is why they can do both sides. They did a fantastic job. The tire looks like it was manufactured with WWs on it from the start. They clean up the same as any other WW. It adds quite a bit to the cost of the tire. It ends being a little more than a regular MT. But it will last a whole lot longer. I do know of another tire that a guy got to put on his Royal Star, and then before he did it he ended up selling the bike for a different one and returning that tire. The tire was a Vredestein Sprint Classic 165HR15. I'm fairly certain that the tire would fit, but no report on exact dimensions or clearances or handling capabilities.

Well, my bike's the same way in that regard. Lori wishes the rear seat were adjustable for height too. I'm on the tall side and she's just enough shorter than me that she stares right into the back of my helmet. That must be about like driving behind a semi. Which is why she likes to ride her own bike. I miss her when she's not on mine with me though.

Y'all want to know what the only DRAG (cheap pun here) of the trip was? Before we left I checked his floorboards, not one single scrape on them. Well I can't be the first one to touch down someone else's bike. I had to make sure to keep the boards off the ground. Oh well, 99% of the trip was interstate anyway, where there's not really any opportunity for that. Rest up Steve. You deserve it.

Bet your own bed never felt better, eh Steve?

Here's a pic of the Federal SS657 with WWs put on it. This thing is great. I've been gone for a week and haven't ridden it, and today I spent 10 hours riding someone else's Venture with a MT on it. I get home and jump on my own bike to run up the road and get a newspaper, and I was several miles up the road before I remembered that I had just put a CT on it the day before I left. I've ridden maybe 50 miles on this tire so far, and I literally could not tell a difference in handling between one bike and the next, back to back riding. There are no handling issues with this CT whatsoever.

Your first post, eh? Welcome aboard. The rear seat sets on the rear fender with rubber bumpers. There's no real good way to raise it. I could wish both seats were made adjustable. Nobody sits in the exact same place on the bike. There are various kinds of pads around. Maybe you could find a foam pad or an air pad and sit on it to lift yourself up a bit?

We rolled in to our place in Hoagland about 7:30 PM. We didn't run them quite all the way home. We had arranged with Mariner Fan to meet us at our house where they picked them up and Bob rode the bike to their house, another couple hours away. I had been on the bike since this morning and was ready to get off. I rode the most miles, but Bob and Ruth went a lot farther out of their way than we did. We hardly went out of our way at all. Our car was going that exact route anyway. We had virtually no trouble at the border, which was amazing considering that I'm on a bike that doesn't belong to me and Lori is driving a car with two people in it whom we had not met before this morning. So if we didn't know these people, just how did we know he had been in the hospital and needed help getting home and we just happened to be in the same place? We could have spent the rest of the day there if they had decided they wanted to ask a bunch of questions. I went through first, and Lori thought sure that they in the car would get pulled over. But we were sent on our way. Best of all, I got a real nice test ride on a Venture, a black cherry one no less, the best color. I'm not used to having cruise control and a radio. The weather was made to order, couldn't have been better. It was a fine trip. Rest up Bummer, and get yourself better.

I heard the phone ring this morning. But we're a bunch of lazy sleepy heads around here this week. I had a funny feeling it might be you, but I didn't get to the thing in time. We're up by now. Give us call back.

Dirty Hydraulic Fluid Windows
pegscraper replied to Schlepporello's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
If the fluid's been dirty at any time over the past years, maybe they need wiped off from the inside too. -
Glad to see you got something worked out. Rest up.

New V-Max 1700cc
pegscraper replied to RSTDRIDER's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Cycle World has an article on the new V Max in the August issue. Also on their website too. http://www.cycleworld.com -
And by ride it home, I do mean ride it to YOUR home, as we're only a couple hours from you on the other end too. And if you need a way home yourself, you might as well get in our car. I'm thinking I'm about your straightest, easiest shot. I'll PM you my mother's number where we're staying.

Don't know much about the Roadstars. But I have heard that the early ones had a chronic transmission problem of some sort. I would ask if any work has been done to the tranny.

When can it be picked up? I assume it's also in Kitchener? Are you there by yourself? How are you getting yourself back home? The wife and I are in Owen Sound right now, just a couple hours or so north of you. My most recent understanding from the boss is (and you know how that goes) that we're heading for home Sunday, that being Fort Wayne area. I'd be willing to ride it home for you. I think that I could pick it up any time between now and then. My problem is that we drove the car, meaning I don't have a helmet with me, which I believe is law here in Canada. Let me know if I can help out.
