Older model Royal Star carb sync question
pegscraper replied to Sterling Turner's topic in Watering Hole
Although mine is the older style Royal Star, I swapped the bigger Venture carbs on it. I don't remember which screw is which, but it's not hard to figure them out just by sticking your head in there looking at them. -
Did this disappear again? I went to use it and don't see it.

I haven't used them myself either. But I know a BMW rider who won't use anything else. He's had them on the past two bikes he's owned, plus his current one. He just automatically gets one when he gets a new bike. I've sat on it for a bit, but haven't ridden his bike. Just sitting on it I can't really tell anything. I'd need to ride it for a couple hours to have any real thoughts.

Well, I can't actually deny that, but it sounds pretty strange to me. The frame and rear fender of both these bikes is the same in that area. The only real difference is the mounting brackets of the seats. I had even put both the midnight and pillow top seats on my bike for a while, as all the rubber pads set in the same place on the frame. And the Dual Tour seat set me up higher than either of those two did, as well as farther back.
-
The Corbin Dual Tour seat will do exactly that, set you up a little higher and little farther back. That's exactly what mine did. I'm on the tall side myself, and this seat gave me more leg room than I thought this bike had in it. With the stock seats and a couple others I tried, I felt like I was sitting halfway up on the tank. Some will say that Corbin seats take a long time to break in, but mine fit me perfectly right out of the box. I have some 15,000 miles on it by now, and I don't want anything else.

I wondered where you had been. And surely you must have taken some pics. -
I don't understand. The ones I have are .pdf files. They don't need adobe to open them. They'll open in anything that will open a .jpg. Ten card pages, too.

Clean living, Bob. Clean living. Glad you're okay. I'm just waiting for a law to be passed making it illegal to drive around with a tongue and ball in place with no trailer. Or else mandate 5 mph impact hitches.
-
I will downshift into 4th and 3rd, and carry 3rd up to the stop and shift down all at once right before completely stopping. Letting the clutch out in 2nd and 1st doesn't last long enough to make engine braking worth the effort.

About 99% of the time I wear it. A full face too. Once in a while I think I want the wind in my hair and such, but I get out on the road and I miss it. I like the tinted shield and the wind protection.

Are you taking luggage or the girlfriend?

I don't think the new VMX is so bad. The only thing I really don't like about it is the side air scoops. But at least they're functional this time, instead of just for looks. That was really bad. They could take that whole mess off of there and put on a regular gas tank looking cover, maybe even add a little gas tank capacity too.

I'd bet you could find one on ebay for a lot less than that. I recently picked up a set of four V Max coils for around $35. -
Got to see the new V Max up close, eh? Were they offering test rides?

TC/TD windshield-quick on/off???
pegscraper replied to autopilot's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
You might be interested in playing with the angle a little bit too. I had always set it up basically parallel with the forks, as I figured it looked best that way. But just within the past couple weeks I discovered a huge difference in wind buffeting on my helmet when I angled it back as much as possible. Buffeting was reduced significantly. But now it's not tall enough, and I already have the tallest one available. I've been going to get a piece of lexan and make my own anyway. Then I can make it the size and shape I want. -

Maybe it's only when it gets that hot that it becomes noticeable enough to see. Have you done a compression check or a leak down check? -
I'm not convinced that they do any real good. Since most cagers don't know they exist or what they're for, I say primarily all they do is create confusion. The other guy doesn't need any more of that. Many of them are confused enough already.

Are you coming down for the southern IN ride this weekend? You might have to get quite the early start though, or spend the night somewhere.

Getting a '99 RSV - need some advice please
pegscraper replied to robbitybob's topic in Watering Hole
Too bad you wouldn't have it by this weekend. You're just a hop, skip and jump from Columbus, where some of us are meeting for a ride this weekend. Actually just a hop. For that matter, show up on your Harley. Hey, we'll let in a foreign bike. -
You're posting and your green online light isn't on. How does that work? Is that a special moderator privilege?

I don't know why it would. Never had problems with that before. Actually, my current bike is the only one on which I've ever burned out a headlight. I always thought of this as an old timer's trick. An old timer told it to me - more than 20 years ago.
-
On previous bikes I've owned, I used to cause the low beam filament to be on all the time and just switch the high beam on and off for high or low beams. I would do this by getting into the headlight switch box and simply making a solder bridge across the low beam terminals. This would provide a whole lot more light out front, and was especially nice for night riding. I haven't done this on my current bike and I don't really know why not. I just haven't gotten a round tuit. I also don't do as much after dark riding as I used to. Has anyone else done this, or ever heard of it?
