Extended shift and brake levers
pegscraper replied to semaj's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Never heard of such. Sorry. -
I have both the narrower front tire and leveling links and it works fine. I like it. It's a matter of what changes you want to make to the handling.

A friend of mine and his wife have iphones and one of his sons got a Droid with Verizon. He tells me he likes the way the Droids operate better.

Am I reading you correctly? You got D404 white wall tires in a 130 size for the front?? Dunlop didn't used to make that tire. Their D404 WW was only in the 150 size. If that's really correct, then I'm happy to hear it, especially when Avon seems to have quit making theirs. I never had any complaints about the Dunlops. I got 16,000 miles out of both of the two pairs I've owned.

Rusell Daylong Seats
pegscraper replied to a4pumper's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I haven't owned one myself. I have a buddy who rides BMWs who swears by them. He's owned three of them, and he said that for the second and third ones, the first thing he did after buying the bike was to send the seat out to Russell. He doesn't waste any ride time on stock seats anymore. I've sat on his bike a couple times, but a short term sit doesn't tell anything, besides, it was custom made for him, not me. I'm a few inches taller than he is. It felt promising though. -
Front brake switch
pegscraper replied to RoyalStarRider's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I don't know what you have, but mine plugs in at the front brake lever. The wires after that point are part of the entire bike wiring harness. There are no other plugs. -

It plugs in at the front brake lever. -
1996 Tour Classic Final drive
pegscraper replied to Budgetguy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
FJR rear gears do not work. I found that out the hard way this summer. The inside is machined differently and when you tighten the axle nut, the wheel is bound. Not only that, but the four mounting studs at the front are too long. I know, they look like the same thing, but they aren't. If you keep your eyeballs open, you should be able to find the proper rear gear for a lot less than a couple hundred. -
When did Avon quit making Venoms with WWs? I have them.

1996 Tour Classic Final drive

VMX rear gears are a bolt on deal except for the speedometer sensor machining. None of these have different splines. Never heard anyone mention it or even ask before. It sounds like your dealer didn't know what he was talking about. Did you lose the one you had a line on already? -
1996 Tour Classic Final drive

All final drives on the Royal Stars and RSVs from '96 to the present are the exact same thing. If you're interested, you could get VMX final drive and machine the blank boss for the speedometer sensor. The point being a slightly lower gear ratio which these early Royal Star desperately need. -
Question for you - Why does one need the PDANet app? Why wouldn't you tether the DX to the computer with bluetooth and use it that way with no umbilical cord? Incidentally, Verizon does still have an unlimited data plan.

front brake lever
pegscraper replied to Motorpig's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I don't believe there is anything adjustable for these bikes. I don't know why. It's too bad. They could use them the same as any other bike. -
I guess I already did kinda mention it a little further up, didn't I. That's about all there is to it. PM sent.

Replied to your PM. I didn't quite want to mention right out here how to hotwire these bikes. It's not real difficult.

Then when you get one, you can go to http://www.xs11.com and read about everything you can do to them.

They're not trying very hard to bypass that switch. All they have to do is disconnect the switch connector and insert two short jumper wires to make the ignition and headlight connections.

If you get anywhere near FW and have a bit of time, you know where to find our phone number.

I'll be keeping my existing cell phones as they are. The Droid is primarily for internet use, and it will be so busy that I pretty well have to have a separate phone.
-
This is what I've been looking into for internet access. The Blackberry can be tethered and use a 3G network, but I'm pretty sure you're limited to a 5GB download capacity per month, no? PDAnet lets you tether the computer through the Droid using Verizon's data plan rather than through the 3G wifi network, and since Verizon currently has an unlimited data plan, you're not stuck to only a 5GB download capacity. I can blow up twice that in a week. The 3G wifi is limited to 5GB per month download capacity which is regulated by the FCC, but the data plan is unlimited - at least for now. Yes, IPhones can also tether, but if I'm not mistaken, you're limited to 5GB per month with AT&T, no? And if you use their 3G wifi, you're stuck with only 2G per month. I've been with Centennial/AT&T for a long time and I'd really rather have an IPhone, but they lost a customer with that garbage. I'm getting a Droid X very soon.

Polyamide or Delrin also works real well. I've made a couple sets from polyamide.

Jason's mod questions
pegscraper replied to RoyalStarRider's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The ignition module does not use manifold vacuum, it is controlled by a TPS on the throttle shaft. My experience is that the Jason mod does nothing more than make the engine idle rough. Supposedly it emulates the V-boost system in a VMX, except that the V-boost valves are 32mm and these vacuum lines are less than an 1/8". That's not big enough to do anything more than act like a vacuum leak. IMO you did it all for nothing. -
Wow, you did steal that one too, especially with those bags on it. You even picked the right colors, red and white. I have to say I'm a bit jealous.
-
You can try pods and a rejet, but I think the bang-for-the-buck factor is pretty low. The carbs and cams are just too small to allow any real gains. Other bikes with four carbs on similar displacement use anywhere from 36mm to 42mm carbs. Yamaha should be slapped for putting 28mm carbs on this bike, and even the 32mm carbs really aren't properly sized, but they're all that's easily done. If you have even a little money to play with, you can buy used parts and then sell off your old ones and regain most of your cost. Swapping the 32mm carbs and VMX cams and springs on this bike gives a 50% gain in rear wheel hp. That's just huge. As for the D3K, I run mine on curve 5 and I also slotted the holes on the pickup coil so I could advance the thing four more degrees relative to the crankshaft. I'm pretty unimpressed. Honestly, I think the only thing the D3K is good for is raising the rev limiter, and there's little point in that when the power curve falls off at around 6500 rpms when the engine can't breathe through the ridiculously small stock carbs and cams. Again, very low bang for the buck there. The induction is by far the biggest restriction area in this engine, and nothing else is going to make much difference until the induction is opened up.
-
There are things you can do about this if you're interested - cam swaps, carb swaps, and both rear gear and transmission gearing swaps, among another thing or two. The dyno says mine makes 90 hp at the rear wheel. It's a whole different bike than what it started life as.
