I have 4000 miles on mine. No perceptible wear yet. If I had a regular MT, it would be a fourth to a third gone. I'm looking forward to not buying a rear tire next year.

a few clutch questions
pegscraper replied to pegscraper's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I thought the kit came with a bunch of discs and parts that a lot of people weren't using. No? I can't even find their kit on their website at the moment. -
Would you have a link to some basic pics for us poor dial up people?

It's becoming evident to me that my clutch is needing some repair. It has lasted 53,000 miles, and now it will slip if I get into the gas even moderately hard. Is all that's happened here for the clutch to slip that the spring has gotten weak? For a stock rebuild, assuming the steel plates and friction discs are still usable, is it basically just replacing the spring with a new one? I've never been into a motorcycle clutch, or a clutch on any other vehicle either. So referring to TT's clutch article, I have a few questions. The upgrade consists of what parts, exactly, the heavier PCW spring and a full size plate in the back? Is the Barnett pressure plate a part of the upgrade, or is it a same as stock replacement? How do I know if the pressure plate needs replacing?

We have two grey ghosts on here? Oh, this is confusing.

Wow. I'd like to hear a rock that size hit the ground one time.

R1 Calipers
pegscraper replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The silver ones can be found on the newer Roadstars and 'liners. But they haven't been on those bikes long enough for very many of them to start showing up on ebay. Some of them have chrome caps on them too, which unfortunately are not available separately. -
It's possible to put on a 2 muffler setup. You'll have to buy the head pipes, mufflers, and all mounting brackets, which means also buying the side bags that go with that set up. Easy to install, but not cheap to buy. I don't think the stock 4 muffler system sounds bad. I have a set that I put on once in a while. They never last more than a couple weeks though, and I'm back to my loud Kromewerks. I just like a little noise, but not too much.

If you notice, most of the parts off of a 2nd gen that someone is parting out don't sell - because nobody needs them. Won't see 25 years of service? Dream on. Although I do try to realize that little lines like that may be all you have to hang on to once you've gone delusional.

No Spark - Boost Sensor?
pegscraper replied to a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The boost sensor has absolutely nothing to do with the cruise control, and it does not adjust the pressure in the carbs under any circumstances. The V Max has this exact same sensor, and they don't have a cruise control at all. The boost sensor will advance the spark under part throttle conditions, and will retard it under full throttle. If the thing happens to be malfunctioning, it still shouldn't have anything to do with the bike not starting. It should still start and run. This boost sensor - whatever one wants to call it - is badly named. What it actually senses is vacuum, manifold vacuum, which is a measure of engine load. It ought to be called a vacuum sensor. But it's not. -
Dunlop Claims MT rim diameter different than CT, who can verify?
pegscraper replied to OutKast's topic in The Darksiders
I have neither a spare rim nor calipers that will measure that big. I really question Dunlop's statement though. There are too many of us around doing this. I have heard of a number of issues and potential issues and rumors of issues, but I have never heard of that one anywhere. It sounds like a CYA statement to me. And of course, a motorcycle tire manufacturer doesn't want to lose sales. -
This frame is not the same as the V Star 1100. I ride the Royal Star and my wife rides the V Star. I use wood blocks with the lift and they work fine. But a couple of the blocks have to be different between the two bikes to make the lift fit.

UPS shipping outside the country is ten times USPS. Pretty much won't be considering that. I don't know about Fedex's foreign rates. My postmaster tells me that if a package is going outside the country, he can't even issue a tracking number. So there is no way to use another country's tracking system. I do know a tale of a package going to Brazil that supposedly never made it. The buyer filed a claim with paypal and the seller lost his money, even after supplying the customs form number. No idea whether the package was actually lost or the buyer was lying. This is exactly what I'd like to know how to protect myself against.
-
My question has always been - how do you protect yourself if the recipient decides to claim that the package never arrived? The USPS can only track packages with the US. So if a foreign buyer pays with paypal and then decides to claim the package never arrived, whether it did or not, and then files a claim with paypal, how does one protect himself against paypal taking his money away?

It was only a matter of time. And, thanks.

The new boattail speedster.

A 883 Sportster. Ugh. The most uncomfortable bike I've ever sat on in my life. I backed up a couple pages and changed the last answer to don't like HDs hoping for something else. No luck. I'm "dead center average", middle of the road boring. On the surface, maybe.

...time... Heh heh. Very funny.

Wanted! for 07 RSTD
pegscraper replied to a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The only real way to move the passenger floorboards down and forward is to make your own. Modify the brackets to get what you what. Several of us on here have wished for this. So far, nobody makes any such thing. Sooner or later, I will be modifying mine for my wife. -
I could see something like this creating a real balance problem and wind up ruining the tire. Unless the guy has done stuff like that before and knows he can do it, I think you're best off to leave it alone.

My wife and I saw one of these on the road yesterday. She commented about liking the looks of it. I do too, but there are other reasons I wouldn't have one. I don't want a V twin, for starters. No power. Yamaha already makes the bike of our dreams.

Psst. That is an email link. That looks better.

That is certainly a unique color combination. You must really like these early Royal Stars. They keep tempting you.
