Weak front brakes
pegscraper replied to algie1100's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I don't know whether the R1 calipers will fit a 1st gen or not. Someone else will have to say. Then you really need a 14mm master cylinder to work with them the best. I don't know what's available for 1st gens in this regard. Using just the calipers without the correct M/C will be functional but not that impressive. But both together are incredible. The mechanical advantage ratio between the M/C and calipers is much better than the stock brakes. Braided lines will help a lot also, because they transfer more of the M/C movement to the calipers instead of absorbing it, like the old lines will do when they swell up. -
We already have a full sheepskin that we use on longer rides. Before we got that, we picked up a couple of wash mitts in something of an emergency on one trip. I already have two of them, so I thought I might as well make them into something I can use solo on an every day basis. I just need to learn to sew. I sure don't see the purpose of sewing bunches of them together to make a full sized piece like someone did on the K gadget page though. What a lot of effort.

Stomping into the new millennium! Way to go!

Ah yes, the Kawasaki gadget page. Thanks, Eck.

I saw on here somewhere once a seat cover that someone had stitched together from a few Mallwart sheepskin wash mitts. There was a picture that showed the underside and how it was stitched together. I've looked and looked and I can't find it now. Does anyone know who made this or happen to have snagged the picture? I'd like to see it again.

Yep, don't want a V twin. I still like their looks though. I like them a lot. Here's a favorite. This is just flat cool. Not a new one though.

I really like Indian motorcycles. Part of the reason I have the bike I have is because it was patterned after them. But if they want anybody to actually buy the real thing, they're going to have to not price themselves out of the market. Their price is laughable. Won't consider them. Won't even dream about them.

What an abomination!

So where does one find it? -
Oh, why not? A bike would have to be a lot easier to restore than a car. Maybe not much cheaper though.
-
Has he checked the Delphi V Star 1100 board? They would have to have stuff like that available.
-
So how is this working out?
-
Set the thing for 7500 rpm rev limit and curve 4 spark advance. Anything less than that won't be any better than the stock ignition module and you may as well have not spent the money on the thing. I run 8000 rpms and curve 5 myself.
-
You're right, those aren't good photos. Can you say basket case? Is it at least complete? I don't know much about them. But I know that those who have restored them are proud of their work, both when they're showing them off and if they ever want to sell one.

Things get lost in the watering hole because anything and everything gets dumped in there. Try putting ride announcements in the M&E section. Then someone knows where to go find it again when they want the latest information.

I have a Fog City shield insert. It does a very good job of preventing fogging. I was warned when I got it that it scratches very easily. And much though I've tried to be careful with it when I clean it, I notice that it's very scratched up. When it gets so bad that I can't tolerate it anymore, I don't know that I'm going to get another one. The main reason is that I also wear glasses, which still fog up anyway, which means that when I come to a stop I have to crack the shield anyway to keep them from fogging. So what good did the shield insert do me? I don't know. You don't figure this kind of stuff out until you try one and use it. If you don't wear glasses, that wouldn't be a problem for you. I have heard that rubbing liquid dish soap inside the shield and letting it dry like that without wiping it out will keep the shield from fogging. I've never tried this, but I might soon.

Maybe you could create on off topic section out on the main board for these kinds of things, and any member who wanted a forum in one of these OT directions could request one. We already know there is the option available to make them not show up, for anyone who doesn't want to see them. As far as I'm concerned, the darkside social group could be deleted, as there is a forum out here for that now. Maybe all the posts in the musician group could be brought out here too, and start with it from there. Those are the two groups that I'm a member of, but you might want to ask the members who started those what they think of that.

Dark pink? How is there any dark pink on that bike? I have WWs too, and wouldn't not have them. I don't have any black or blue on mine though. In fact, it's not even a Venture. For WW tires in the stock size, Dunlop or Maxxis are the only choices. If you happen to want to use the narrower front tire that some of us like, then you can use Avon tires. But Avon doesn't make a WW in the stock front size.

Watch out for those women, there, Don. They'll get ya. Those two are a little small now, aren't they? There are other ones a little bigger than that. I need a hand loupe to see what they are.
-
Why not just reduce the size of that big one to the size of the other ones instead of getting rid of it? I like that one, but I will also say that the size of it is a little much.

The search always worked as an OR statement? I never figured that out, but good grief, no wonder it would bring up so many seemingly unrelated results. What do we use for the NOT?
-
Are you going to have one with you next time, Steve?
