  1. It almost sounds like you're describing something similar to these. Yay? Nay? It's an interesting idea. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Accessories_Motorcycle-Parts-Accessories__ADJUSTABLE-BAR-RISERS-FOR-BMW-1150-GS-F650-1150GS-1100_W0QQitemZ290275526766QQddnZPartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQadiZ2863QQddiZ2811QQadnZMotorcycleQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item290275526766&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A543%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318#ht_652wt_0
  2. My feathers are unruffled. Did you comment over there? Without looking I don't remember. I know there were several who did. I didn't try to remember who. I noticed how many responses were going up and no one was really answering the question - to the point where he started over in a new thread. I've occasionally asked a question before and had the same thing happen.
  3. Did you see my post in your other thread about making some mounting plates for them? I don't know if you're handy at fabricating stuff. You're not going to find a pre-made kit for this. I do also find it annoying when a question is asked, and no one actually answers it because they're so busy telling you a different way to go, or can't figure out why in the world you might want to do such a thing. If they have to ask why, they wouldn't understand the answer anyway.
  4. I've heard about it. I knew it existed. I knew who was doing it. I knew who to contact if I ever wanted anything. I could never find where it was on the board here. I had looked around several different times, including again tonight. Finally decided to ask. Thanks.
  5. Where in the world does one find this parts exchange list?
  6. Are you looking for more ideas? Maybe you could design a stand and an adapter so I could use my old Hunter car tire spin balancing equipment on my motorcycle wheels. This old equipment would balance the wheels and tires right on the car, but a motorcycle wheel would have to be removed and mounted on something else. I've had in the back of my mind to work on some ideas for this myself, but I haven't taken the time to put much thought into it.
  7. Maybe you could start making the gauge mounts that went in front of the gas cap.
  8. I think you're pretty well on your own, as far as mounting pegs on an RSV. No one has ever wanted to do it. But anything can be done. Are you good at fabricating things? You could make some plates from 1/4" steel to mount in place of the floorboard brackets. Then you could mount some pegs anywhere on the plates you wish. Kuryakyn makes some very nice looking pegs. You'll need to figure some way to mount the shift lever and the rear brake pedal on these plates also. Sounds like a good winter project. I also hate the toe/heel shifter. I cut the heel off of mine. It was nothing but in my way. I have a lot more foot room without it. But I still have the floorboards.
  9. Good grief. I just can't keep up anymore.
  10. It depends how long it was since the bike was last run how long the fuel pump has to run to pump up pressure when you turn the key. The longer the bike has set, the longer the pump will run. But if it's only been a day or so, you won't hear much out of it. If it's really running this badly and you don't know what to do, I'd let the dealer mess with it.
  11. Did they give any reason why they wouldn't fit? I wonder if it has anything to do with the handlebar weights. I can't think of anything else right off. I would think some modification could be made so they'd fit. Edit: Actually they do show the RSV in the application listing now. I'm guessing it was a while back that you wrote them? The early Royal Stars could most likely use the ones for the Roadstar, except for mine, as I put the RSV handlebar weights on my bike. Mine would probably take the RSV ones. http://www.hippohands.com/yamaha.htm Oh, they won't fit anything but the black ones though. Question on the RSV though - doesn't the fairing pretty well keep the direct wind off of your hands anyway? Since the windshield on mine doesn't extend out to the handlegrip area, I put some add on wind guards from National Cycle on my bike this year for colder weather and they do help a lot. I still need something more though.
  12. Here's an idea for you. I haven't tried these. It's just an idea. I think they're fairly tempting. http://www.hippohands.com/
  13. Street Strategies by David Hough is also very good. The information is given in bite sized pieces. Each riding tip takes just one page, so it's easy to read just one page at a time and digest the information. My wife likes this one, as some of the other books mentioned get technical enough that she loses interest in reading them. I've read all the above books. So what did I learn? I don't remember. What didn't stick, I don't remember. And what did stick has been absorbed in my brain and I don't remember that either. I guess it's time to read up again, now that Parked Motorcycle Syndrome is virtually here. I can always learn something new.
  14. Glad to hear he's okay. Not hearing from, and not being able to hear from, your spouse like that can really be unnerving.
  15. I suck.
  16. Nope. There's only one of them. The thought is that it is a splash guard to keep gas off of a hot cam cover in case some is spilled when filling the tank. My bike never had one though.
  17. Wow. I can't wait to see that finished.
  18. As the blond said, he's a Brazillianaire. Star brick? 1800s? So is that what the 1st gens were made of?
  19. Same here. Unfortunately, the picture isn't big enough to tell what it really is. Nice idea though. Okay, now it's more plain. That would be a lot of fun, for both dog and owner. I've heard it said that only a motorcyclist understands why a dog hangs its head out a car window.
  20. Oh, I figured because you were asking for him that he probably wasn't. Who is he then? Is there a gallery?
  21. First things first. Why is he not a member here??? I like the '96 Royal Stars. Throw up some pics please.
  22. If you're referring to any pictures you may have gotten from Hank, don't look for anything to be original or authentic on his bike. It is highly modified, although you have to look close to tell most of it. He does have (technically) incorrect newer TD hard bags on his bike. The first hard bags, and the ones he used to have, had a latch in the front and rear and the lids were completely removable. Edit: Actually, it looks like the picture of his that you put up is an early one from him. That is before most or maybe all of his bigger modifications. The hard bags in that picture are correct for the bike. Notice the front and rear latches. There was a discussion on the Royal Star board not long ago about all the different models that were available and what the distinctions between them all were. It turned out that the distinctions between them all were pretty blurred. The most concrete differences were two vs. four mufflers, and soft vs. semi hard vs. hard bags.
  23. The '05 and newer RSTDs are a different enough bike from the '96 - '01s that they deserve their own spot. I say Steve has it right. Unless I'm mistaken, he isn't done with the '96 - '01 page and he'll get around to mentioning the original TD there. I think he's still looking for pictures of one, too.
  24. When it's cold out, they come on. Nobody really knows what they do. Many will disconnect them if they're looking for more current for other accessories. My bike never had them in the first place.
  25. There were some other models of the early Royal Stars around. Mine is the Standard four muffler model. In the later years of the '96 - '01 run, there was also a Tour Classic with two mufflers and soft bags, and a Tour Deluxe model with two mufflers and hard bags (not to be confused with the '05 and newer RSTD). It would be nice if someone with these models could send him a picture. I know there are a few of you on here.
