Even though I wear glasses, I still like a full face. I just have to take them off to put on or remove my helmet. The wife and I both wear an Arai, and while not cheap, they are very comfortable. Helmets don't get any safer than a full face.

Interesting ports on the tank. Like old Buicks, do you?

Carbs leaking 96 RSTC
pegscraper replied to WAC1972's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
It would probably be best to pull the carbs out of the bike so you can remove the bowl covers and see what's going on in there, clean out any garbage, and get the screws tight. -
That Russel Day Long seat looks interesting. So micko, the seller, is dumping both the Russel and a Corbin Dual Tour seat. I wonder what he's using now.

I'm assuming you mean the stock end weights? If you want to keep the K throttle rocker or use any of their fancy colored trim rings, the way to do this is not to gouge out the ends of the grips, but to turn the shoulders of the weights down in a lathe so that they will fit through the grips. If you don't have a lathe yourself, you could take them to a machine shop. Then you'll have to use some loctite to hold them in place in the handlebars.

Are you referring to the seat that Y used on the midnight bikes? Yes, it will set you a little lower in the bike than the pillow top seat.

It's impossible to take all the slack out. The cables will bind if you try it, as you found out. It's just the way the thing is.

Misc Thoughts...

To answer a few questions not yet addressed... Changing the rear gear does not throw off the speedometer any farther than it already is, and a speedo healer is not needed for this reason. A speedo healer might be used to correct for the error inherent in the design. A simple resistor will not work, because the speedo is not reading a speed based voltage. It reads a digital signal, a speed based frequency. The speedo healer alters the frequency by a preset percentage. The VMX rear gear is recommended. But even that just barely gets the rpms up where they ought to be. They ought to be up just a little bit more. There are ways to do it, but not near so easily as just swapping the rear end gear.- 16 replies

Have an enjoyable dinner and don't overeat. It might ruin the evening. We'll behave until you get back.

Blow by gases will contaminate the oil at the same rate and the oil still needs to be changed out at the same interval. Why spend twice as much for the oil? I tried the 5W40 synthetic once. Suddenly my clutch started chirping. Prior to that I never knew what everyone was talking about. Even the wife noticed it and asked me what I had done to the bike now to make the thing scream like that. I tried reasoning with the bike, and explained to it all the reasons why synthetic was better for it, about how it would run smoother and live longer. But it wouldn't listen. It just kept screaming back at me until I went back to regular oil. But sure, it's just my opinion. To each his own. There is a guy in our town who sells some brand of synthetic oil, I forget which one. He saw me in the gas station once and handed me a card and struck up a conversation wanting to promote his oil. He claimed that he had done some tests with engine temperatures and found that air cooled engines ran a lot cooler with synthetic oil. I told him my engine was water cooled, and his first response was a double take on my engine. His second response was admitting that I had no need for his oil and didn't need to spend the money on it. But as always, YMMV.

Here are a few of my favorites.

The 5W40 was in a blue bottle, right? That's synthetic. Use it if you want, but there's no real need, especially on a water cooled engine. It's also twice as expensive as the regular in the white bottle. Waste of money.

Headaches, dizziness, colds, you know these kinds of things are all in your head. Sorry to hear it, bud. There's too much of this going around. Take care of yourself.
-
I also use Rotella T 15W40 and didn't find it to lose gas mileage. Harleys are just real special bikes. Air cooled engines will do different things than water cooled engines will. We'll see what flab has to say.

That seemed to help somewhat. I thought generally that when the thing was paused that it stopped loading the video, but not on this one anyway. Wow, that's real nice. She'll remember that forever. You do a good job of putting this kind of stuff together, too.

Yamaha's filters are second only to Fram in crappiness. No way I'd run either one of these. Cut one apart and look for yourself. There are no adapters needed for RSVs. The adapter you saw is probably for a 1st gen. Check here for a long list of filters that will fit. Our bike is in group five down at the bottom.

Also these two options. http://www.blackrobotics.com/ http://www.dynamicimports.net/p30.html

Wow, sorry to hear it. I've broken ribs more times than I can remember anymore. Never had a collapsed lung though. Rest up and take care of yourself. Not a good way to start out the year.

Wow, with a tongue that long, you'd really have to swing extra wide in corners. It looks like just tubing though. Simple to make.

I wish I had a fast enough connection speed to watch videos. Sigh. One day.

Man I wish I could. Bike looks good. Fantastic price. I like the high contrast two tone color schemes. Not sure why though.

1996 RSTC thermostat
pegscraper replied to WAC1972's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Boy I don't know. I don't even know where you picked that up. I guess about all you can do is take the old one in and compare them. Has your old one gone bad? -
I do about what M61 does. At the official desk, I plug the laptop into a larger screen, keyboard, and wireless mouse. And it is portable when I need it to be.

I have the track pad set up about as well as it can be, I think, and I'm used to the way it works. I just don't find it as easy to use as a regular mouse. For some things like the skeet shooting game someone put up here, it's not possible to play the game well at all using the track pad. When I'm at my desk with it, I plug in a regular mouse, and when I'm somewhere else with it, I find myself using more keyboard commands. Each person likes a different thing, I guess. It's not impossible too, that I'm overlooking some setup feature that would make it work easier, but I wouldn't know what. I've played with everything I can see on it. But I really know very little about computers overall.
