  1. The R1 calipers fit fine on the 2nd gens. I wasn't sure they fit on the 1sts. You will also want to find a 14mm master cylinder from a later Roadstar for the front brakes to go with them. I wouldn't do the rear brake though. It has plenty of braking power already.
  2. Speaking of a pipe plug, I wonder if there might be a freeze plug just the right size to tap into the hole and seal it off.
  3. Yeah, I was waiting for someone to comment on that. It's truly the case. I have a project ready to go here that I want done but don't really want to do. I intended to come home and do it, but my bike just wasn't into making U turns that day. There was one spot I planned to see near Huntington and was hoping for something worth taking a picture of, but there was nothing there. After that, I just kept going. I was so unprepared for that long of a ride, I had to be careful that I had enough money for gas and something to eat somewhere. But I did have my county road map with me, without which it would have been impossible. Michael, do you have any interest in tracking down remnants of the old Wabash-Erie Canal bed? That interests me because it was started here in FW and is such a piece of our history. The stretch on Redding Rd. by the Vermillyea House is plain, but when I started looking for it, I was amazed at how much of it can still be seen across the countryside and in several other towns. I could lose a whole week of days tracing it around. These pictures and some other places I have in mind for a ride sometime. Not sure when that will happen though. There are a few things to see in northern IN, but you have to look around for them.
  4. So he sends me a PM. Not reading that either, bud. I'm not listening to you.
  5. Those questions were rhetorical, which for those of you in Rio Linda, that means that they don't really require an answer because the answers are obvious. The fact that you answered them in such detail is really quite funny. In case you're still missing it, the point of the questions was that all that is needed to operate the throttle is the pull cable. Some of us have removed the push cable and it miraculously still works. When you're in your car with the cruise control on and you want to slow down, do you actually reach down and pull up on the gas pedal or wish that the capability were there to do so? (Warning: rhetorical question here. See above.) I touch the brakes or hit the off switch myself. Tell me I don't know what I'm talking about and you better be able to take a bucketful, bud. I will not be opening this thread any more. You have nothing worthwhile to say. You reply and it will be for everyone else. Go ahead and have the last word. I don't care. This is the end of this for me.
  6. I might have some more work that needs done this Saturday too. You never know. You can only ride West Hamilton Rd. so many times before you wish for something else.
  7. Specifically, the kickstands are 2 1/4" different in length, which because of the angle only puts it about 1.6" closer to the ground. I think this might be worth investigating for you.
  8. I thought of you that morning, but had no way to get a hold of you on short notice (like a phone number in your profile - hint hint). This was an extremely impromptu ride for me. I did have one errand to make in Huntington, but then instead of turning around for home, I kept going. And then I went a little farther. And then I went some more. Before I knew it, the day was about gone and I was still an hour and a half from home. I actually ditched some of the back roads I wanted to explore on the way home and got on a straight highway to make a little time. Hanging Rock is really something to behold, at least for us northern Hoosiers who live in flatlands. The picture doesn't do it justice. The scale is lost. That thing is just huge. I've heard tales of people repelling down the steep side of the thing...
  9. If you're handy at fabbing stuff, you can make some brackets out of 1/4" steel to move your floorboards forward. This won't get you pegs though. And I don't remember where I turned up these pictures. It's not my bike. You will also need to get a longer rear brake line and make a longer shift linkage rod.
  10. Congratulations, Sherry. We caught wind of this, but we were waiting to hear the announcement from you. We don't care what he rides, just as long as he does ride.
  11. It seems like I read somewhere that the Roadstar spring will fit the V Star shock and stiffen it up quite a bit. You might look for one of those used. A lot of folks find the stock V Star spring too soft. I set the shock on my wife's V Star at its firmest, and the bike still bounced around like a pogo stick with both of us on it. Usually her bike is just a solo ride though, so it's okay the way it is.
  12. I had some work that needed done around the house Saturday. So I went for a ride. I was out for around nine hours and put on maybe 400 miles. Here are a few pictures I took along the way. The first place is called Hanging Rock. It is located on the Wabash River near Salamonie Reservoir in northern IN. This lone chunk of rock juts up out of the ground almost 100' where the rest of the landscape around it is pretty flat. This unusual (for northern IN) geological feature is known all over the world. It's only a few feet from the road, but when the leaves are out on the trees, it's completely hidden from view. Amazingly, it's not hard to climb to the top of it. The next two pictures are from the top looking out at the river, one to the east and the other to the west. The next two pictures are the covered bridge in Roann, IN. It's a dirty little town, not much to look at. But this bridge is in excellent shape. It's open to traffic, but the main road has been routed around it with a modern bridge, which is where I took these. As for the house project work, well, we'll see what happens next Saturday.
  13. If Wikipedia did that, there should be an article on Wikipedia about it then. Whatever the story is about them, snopes is not to be trusted in matters of politics or religion.
  14. Yeah, whatever. If the thing needs two cables, then why does the servo only use one cable? And how do some people successfully take them off? This and a couple other recent issues here goose, you've really shown your true colors. You are nothing but a clanging gong in my ear.
  15. My rear/front MT tire feels the same way. Don't understand it. Can't explain it. But this DS tire combination makes the bike feel more solid and handle more neutral than the two times previously when I had brand new front and rear MTs installed at the same time. Another accidental benefit is that you get wider WWs on the front than you would have otherwise, because they put wider WWs on rear tires than they do on front tires. Those aren't just wide white walls. Those are gangstas.
  16. If that was ft. lbs., you got it right. It's 78 Nm or 58 ft. lbs. Man, with luck like that, I think I'll call you next time I can't find a torque spec for something.
  17. Heads won't fit, but they wouldn't gain you anything anyway. Stock VMX cams and valve springs are a drop in swap. Not difficult, just fiddly. The VMX rear gear is a good swap. It doesn't do anything for the engine itself, but does let the engine run a little faster and operate a little closer to its powerband. Last summer I was trying to get the VMX ignition module to work in my bike. It has much, much better spark advance curves and a higher rpm limiter. I wasn't successful with it last year though, and I haven't worked on it in a while. What this engine really needs is carbs bigger than these little 32mm ones. But nothing is an easy fit there at all. There's just not enough room inside the frame.
  18. Bikes have had a push cable on the throttle for many years now, and it has nothing to do with whether it has a cruise control or not. Most bikes don't have a CC, but all bikes have two cables. It's a safetycrat item, only put there for lawyers. Some folks have been known to take the push cable off. It doesn't do anything anyway. It's interesting that the cruise control servo on this bike doesn't have a push cable. All that is needed is the pull cable.
  19. Oh, that's it, undoubtedly. A tree snuck into your garage overnight and sabotaged your bike. Nature has its way of hitting back.
  20. Someone else from Fort Wayne. Oh goodness. We need to find a good Saturday and go riding. Maybe you know a fun obscure road around here I've overlooked.
  21. Global whiners refuse to be satisfied. The best thing to do is ignore them.
  22. This isn't very usable. There are blue question marks everywhere where I assume there are supposed to be pictures. There is only one line of text for each step. Apparently a lot is cut off. Links that lead anywhere else are dead.
  23. You might look for a kickstand from a '96 - '01 Royal Star. They are 2 1/4" shorter and bolt right on. That might be just about right. This is a big bike for someone your size. I'm impressed. I'm 6'1" myself. I raised the back of my bike.
  24. The lines are a little fuzzy in places. The main differences are that the Tour Classic has four mufflers and semi-hard bags, the Tour Classic II has two mufflers and soft bags, and the Tour Deluxe has two mufflers and hard bags. Some of the early Tour Classics didn't come with bags at all, nor a windshield. The history section here is really lacking on the Royal Stars.
