A few folks have done it before. All it takes is to make a couple simple L brackets to hold it down.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Lori and I know them through Joe. I sure hope that the injuries are no more than the broken leg.

Kneel down to where you can see it and pull the bike up to level. It's not hard. I do it all the time.

Canadian sellers of aftermarket parts!
pegscraper replied to Bluesman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Slip-ons will do you fine if all you want to do is make a little noise. You really only need a full system if you're doing a bunch of other engine modifications and making a lot more power with it. I don't have any Canadian dealer suggestions. Sorry. But there must be a decent one somewhere.- 11 replies

Etched the surface. This is exactly why I wouldn't want to use it on paint. It will be pretty hard on paint. And I wouldn't leave it on the bare aluminum fins any longer than necessary. Of course, emergencies interrupt things sometimes.

It sure does look better with those bags on it. But anything would look better than the ones you took off. Yes, the drag of the semi-hard bags is that they don't lock. I probably rely on the out of sight out of mind premise a little too much. I just try not to leave anything too valuable or difficult to replace in them, depending on where I'm parking and what time of day it is and how long I'll be away from it. Also, don't park somewhere where you can be seen putting something in them and then walking away. That's just an invitation. I either put stuff in them before I get to where I'm parking, or I take stuff in with me. I do chuckle sometimes in our small town when someone will park and I hear the chirp of their car alarm being activated, and there sets all my stuff wide out in the open, as I frequently have so much stuff that some of it gets strapped down to the back seat. So far nothing has ever come up missing. But sometimes I wonder how long it will be.

Well, it is used on plastic toilet seats. I'm not sure I'd want to use it on anything painted though. But I may be trying this on my fins and other engine crevices.

My wife rides an '02 V Star 1100, so I know this bike. They did really boof the pooch on that oil filter design. That's the worst thing you'll find about it though. Ours hasn't been troublesome at all. It runs along real nice. I don't know where you'd find an online manual for it. I picked one up used somewhere.

Have you taken a look at your air boxes? With the oil level that high, I'll bet it's a sloppy mess.

Only 8000 miles? Where's the bike been? Have you blown the cobwebs out of the engine yet? Sharp looking '96. And I can see why you're getting rid of those hard bags. Those are the right bags alright. You can probably pawn the Roadstar brackets off on ebay. The part numbers I gave you are for #13 and #28 in the diagram I gave you. Did you look at that? Your number is for a package with both brackets and all the bolts too. Buying the whole package is probably cheaper than buying the pieces individually.

You can find the image of the bags and brackets here. Then go to: motorcycle - 1996 - Royal Star Tour Classic - Saddlebag. Part numbers are: 4NL-F8473-00-00 and 4NL-F8474-00-00. The best way to tell what bags you have is to throw some pictures of them up here. Several of us could tell you what they are. Around here we have this little rule of posting pics of your bike anyway. The next best way is to find pictures of other Royal Stars and see what they have. I don't think you'll find part numbers on the bags. Hopefully the guy didn't butcher them up to fit other brackets to get them on his bike.

Maybe you didn't look in quite the right place. I pulled this picture off of Y's website. Do these pictures of my bike answer anything for you?

tank bag for RSTD

Do I understand right, you can zip the map holder right down on the magnetic base when you want a map holder alone? Their stuff does look interesting. -
A slightly more common practice is to put a rear tire on the front, because rear tires are made with more rubber and will last longer. I'm running this way now, and like it. And maybe I can get through a whole 12 months without having to replace a tire.

Has the new link for the manuals been updated into the tech library?

There's nothing available like that. But I have seen on some other bikes where people will take the chrome bag support brackets made for soft bags and mount them upside down so the passenger can use them for handles to hang onto. Maybe something like that would work for you. I thought I had some pictures of this somewhere, but I can't find them.

Are your friends aware that the RSV pillow top seats won't fit directly on the RSTDs? They will need to make a couple simple L brackets to bolt the front seats down.

Y'all with neat garages need to check yourselves in somewhere. You're very ill. Here's mine, about a 24' x 24' two car garage, with two cars and two motorcycles in it. Can you spot the: mig welder, Sun distributor machine, old style Hunter tire balancing equipment, sand blast cabinet, white wall painting machine, floor standing pneumatic frame jack, jack stands made from old tractor axle housings, hydraulic press, 302 Ford engine on the stand, 80 gallon vertical compressor, engine hoist, grand piano? There is a grand piano in there. All this stuff is visible, but with these small res pictures it might be hard to see some of it. There are also two other engines on stands and a couple transmissions that are behind other stuff and can't be seen. I'm in the middle of restoring a '71 Mustang convertible in there too. Beside it is a '68 Cadillac Coupe deVille. This doesn't even start on the wood and metal shop in the basement of the house.

When someone doesn't wave back, I figure it's because their riding skills haven't advanced to the point where they can take one hand off of the bars.

My wife was in Vegas about three weeks ago for a seminar. She got so sick of seeing these little brown people handing out cards that she lost herself at one point and blurted out to one of them that he was the most despicable man she'd ever seen. She was immediately a little shocked at what she had just done. She was just so sick of it. Even the couple she was walking with were getting propped. Other than the seminar, she couldn't wait to get out of the city. The highlight of her week was renting a Harley Softail Deluxe on the last day and riding through the wilderness. She also went across the Hoover Dam.

Oh, it's just as easy to scrape pegs on a car tire as it ever was. No problems there.

Valve tool Dimesions
pegscraper replied to piper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
You guys may have a nice climate down there, but the prices you pay for just about anything is awful. Here are a couple pictures of the thing. It is 36mm across. The inside hex is 22mm. Notice that the hex is eccentric of the arc, so that when you roll the cams around, the arc acts like a cam and pushes the valve buckets down. Also notice the stepped areas at the bottom of the thing to fit in between the buckets and stay in place. This will not be an easy thing to make. By the time you're done, you may just wish you had coughed up the coin. Well, the board absolutely refuses to load pictures right now. I'm not sitting here waiting on it any longer. I'll send them to you in an email. -
My wife loves it. She says that the bike feels more stable to her and the ride is softer. Don't know much about mileage yet. As far as I know, only one guy has worn one out so far. The rest of us are still going. I have maybe around 8000 miles on mine now.

Need Help!
pegscraper replied to TourClassic's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The early Royal Stars don't have the tip over switch that the later Ventures have. Some of the other switches mentioned are possibilities. My vote is for the ignition switch going bad. Mine has had a similar problem. Flaky ignition switches seem to be a chronic problem on Yamahas, and it doesn't matter what the model.
