Party at Mariner Fan's house. Looks like it will last all week, too.

It runs in my mind that it's 30mm, but I have an aftermarket stem nut clock on mine and it's not easy to check. Someone else will have to verify it.

Um, Monday is the 15th, Wednesday is the 17th. So which day is it? Officially, I mean. I know, all of them are.

Tour Classic Saddlebags
pegscraper replied to iquester's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Yeah, tan ones are going to be pretty hard to find. There were never a whole lot of those around anyway. I don't have any more suggestions than what you already know. It might be easiest to find a black set and have them recovered. I have a beat up set of Y factory bags that I'm going to recover myself some long winter here. I'll do mine in black though. Then I can decorate them how I want. Sharp looking bike too. I like the red and white ones for some reason. -
I was also going to add that they must have been moving a queen bee. I've seen a couple swarms on our place in the past few years. One I think was just an overnight stop in a tree. They were gone the next day. Another one made a home in the walls of our basement. I saw the day they came in. The swarm was half the size of our house. I had to call a bee keeper to come and remove them. He told me that he had been keeping bees for many years, but admitted that he had never seen a swarm. He lives in the city though.

I don't know about a radial front tire, and I'm not sure that it matters much. One or maybe two of Y's current models has a radial MT on the back and a bias MT on the front, right out of the crate. That's what they put on them. I figure it can't be too much of a problem if the factory is doing it. The next step on the DS is to take a rear MT and use it on the front. Rear MTs are made with almost but not quite double the amount of rubber tread on them, and for not very much more money. They'll get a lot more mileage than the standard front MTs.

One has to be a supporting member in order to post, right? So we will never see a post from someone who is not a supporting member. Is this right or am I missing something? I don't quite see the point of putting the supporting member label there, other than to make Don do a pile of work which is taking him many days to accomplish.

I don't know what tire he has. With most CTs, the sidewall will flex enough to keep the tread flat. Here is the low speed corner through the puddle of water test. MT on the left, CT on the right. Which tire has more rubber on the ground? Make up your own mind. To each his own.

It does get old. It's almost enough to make me want a sport touring bike simply because HD doesn't make any that style. The argument would not exist.

Yup, the one and only time I tried synthetic and gave it an honest chance, that's when I learned what the engine whine was all about. I never heard it before that, didn't know what everyone was talking about. My engine just screamed at me. The wife even noticed it and asked me what in the world I had done to my bike now and was it going to go away or was it permanent. I didn't know. A few oil changes later with Rotella T dino oil and it did finally settle back down. Be real careful about saying this about synthetic oil around here though. You'll get clubbed and beaten and have people looking down their noses at you.

Fuel Valve Position
pegscraper replied to StarQ's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The same. I never turn mine off. -
I see the valves and intakes there, and the motor actuator, but I don't see the electronic brain box that reads the rpms and tells the motor what to do. Even at $300, he's trolling for a sucker. Keep your eyeballs in ebay and you can find the full setup for half that. You may be able to piece it together for even less. I had it on my bike for quite a while. I found it to make a real nice difference, but 32mm carbs are too small for this engine. Anything at all that will let more air in the engine will help.

That commercial should be running everywhere.

Headlamp modulator-has this happened to you?

I'm with you. Plenty of evidence right here in this thread that flashing lights confuse cagers, and cagers don't need any more excuses to get confused than they already have. Plain and simple. -
Are you serious, Joe? You're back on a Venture? What year this time? C'mon, you know the pictures rule. I have a question for you. Look for a PM.

Improving gas mileage...
pegscraper replied to 5bikes's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It can, yes. Leaner does not necessarily mean better. There is an A/F ratio at which emissions are the lowest possible. Get richer than that and emissions will go up. Get leaner than that, and emissions will also go up. If the A/F ratio is too lean to begin with, then yes, making the mixture richer will lower emissions. -

That seat will fit any '96 - '01 Royal Star. They were an optional seat that could be purchased at a dealer. You can still find them used on ebay. I had those on my bike for a while, and I did some reshaping of the front seat. But I still like the Corbin Dual Tour better.- 13 replies

It does narrow it a little and makes it more crisp. It makes the stock clutch feel spongy and unresponsive in comparison.

I couldn't tell you what the absolute number is. My mercury sticks aren't marked with numbers. The mercury may bounce a little, but it should be pretty steady. Are you sure the restrictors are in the lines? Or maybe you need to make some new restrictors with smaller orifices in them.

I just put the PCW kit in last week. Nice and crisp. It made the stock one feel spongy in comparison. I should have done it a long time ago, but it's only money. But it got to where I had no choice, as the thing slipped on me once last fall in a passing maneuver. Installation took me a couple hours, but I also pulled the whole clutch basket and changed some shift linkage parts while I was in there.

Yup, the kickstand will touch down. Seats? I went through a few and wound up staying with the Corbin Dual Tour. I like it. The wife hates it. But she rides her own bike anyway. Seats from any '96 - '01 Royal Star will interchange. What seat did you have on your '98 that you liked so well?- 13 replies

Putting an RSV seat on an early Royal Star will be a different thing than putting one on the '05 and newer RSTDs. You pretty well have to swap the seat pan, putting the RSV foam and cover on the RS seat pan. I did that and had it for a while. But I ebayed it off quite a while ago when I found a Corbin at a price I couldn't refuse.

Venture seat
pegscraper replied to 400thumper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Not so sure on that one, but I'd guess you probably could. I know the rubber pads set in the same places on the frame. It's only the mounting bolts that are in a different place.- 8 replies

I answered in your other thread on this. A few folks have done it. All you have to do is make some simple L brackets to bolt it down.- 8 replies
