I have had pretty good luck with Ortho weed-be-gone; but that is with a wild shrub of somekind . Other than that all i can offer is this. I have always been told that the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.................

Following that logic, The bike should have had a few "tempory" oil leaks new. or at least had a few hundred miles on it.

My son is transferring to Camp Pendleton Ca. form Camp New River NC. He wants to pick up a used bike to get around on while he is out there. He was looking at an 85 BMW locally but i am wondering if he will have trouble with emission laws once he gets out there. In your opinion, should he try to find one here or wait untill he gets out there? Does anyone have a line on something he can pick up when he gets there? I think he is looking in the $3500.00 price range. (And i'm doing my best to keep him off of a crotch rocket...he has no fear and that scares me!) Thanks.

I'm Not a second genner.............but seems to me that i remember someone saying something a while back about a problem with the rear axle not being torqued correctly.....don't remember if it made a noise but it did leave a mark on the shaft................. Something to check anyway.

Turn Signals not Flashing
fixit3546 replied to utadventure's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Jeff your right. What i was talking about is the other flasher, i think for the e-flashers. The signal flasher is just as you describe, and it sits just behind the flasher i was talking about. My bad though, i didn't do a very good job of describing it.......- 6 replies

What Jeff said.............you will find it in a rubber mount right behind the flasher. the flasher is about 1" long and about as big around as a quarter. Probably aluminum and silver in color.- 6 replies

Brake light staying on
fixit3546 replied to tfair's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
could be your brake pedal sticking also and not letting it return fully. Try a little lube on the pivot point there as well. -

Mine did that on the left side and it dern near drove me nuts untill i remembered spilling some brake fluid on it just a few days before. i thought i had it all cleaned up but when i took it apart i found it on the inside as well. It got my faring and lower faring. A good cleanning and some plastex and it is all back together now..... Just a thought, ya aint spillt none on it have ya???

I can't wait to hear the outcome from this. Have you ever had second gear................. If not, hang on tite on your first power run through 3rd gear........it'll fly!!! Yours looks about as bad as mine did, but with a minimal expense and a little grinder work (as randy prescribed) I can't make it jump out of second gear now. And be sure to add your success story to this thread.. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=17965

1St. Gen. Fairing

Guy,You will find that the plastex is stronger by far than anything else you can try. and simpler to work with, and it cures faster. (but i have not tried that stuff Condor mentioned) -

it is ABS plastic. I prefer a product called Plastex. You can do a search on here and find a lot of info on plastic repair. you can probably find a few links at the bottom of this page as well............ here is a link to get you started http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=312 -
A few Q's on my 2nd gear fix
fixit3546 replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Randy, good point. Also check your oil pick up strainer. I found that even though i still had my o-ring in place, there was also one in my strainer. Must have been replaced once before. (lots of other trash in there too.) I remember that you wired the manifold tube up on yours so that it couldn't push the new o-ring out. I went a different route. I wish i had pictures but i don't. I had some neoprene rubber that was about 1/8" thick. I cut a peice to match the diameter of the rubber support pad that originally held the tube in place. Then i glued the two together. It was sufficient to hold the pipe firmly in place (for now) and the little "knocking noise" that i had went away...............Just my two coppers. -
Nancy, Angel and I have you and the family in our prayers. I knew when we meet you and Mark on the ride to little sturgis that you were special people. I'm going to miss him.
