    Why?

50 pages, the question remains open for an adequate answer........WHY?
  3. Sorry to hear of Garys passing, didn't know him but he sounds like a great guy. I'll definitely be in prayer for his family and the one that caused this. (Gary sounds like the kind of guy that would have done this) Look for God's glory in this, I'll bet you find it..
  4. Well, i have managed to change out the electrics (wiring harness and all) from the 86 to my 83. The bike cranks and runs fine, everything seems to be working so far Except for the headlight and the flashers, no hi beam, no low beam. no left right or emergency flashers. the emergency flasher switch is attached to the harness. Any ideas what may be wrong?..............................front park lights are on, and i tried another headlight with the same effect.
  5. Brother, I'm the king of that one.........
  6. Thanks for the help! I went to my local used bike parts supplier and got the flasher relay. now the starter works. The green connector was from the 83 clutch switch that i forgot to change out, I changed it out and everything seems to be working now. Bob, i did read somewhere on here that there was a cali. smog upgrade and a plug for it. i thought that that was what it was too to start with but after reading dingy's post, i remembered that i hadn't changer that one out yet Again, THANKS!!! fellas.
  7. i have to add words here so it will post.................hey don, thanks again, this is still the best site on the net even if i haven't been here in a while!
  8. the story behind all this is that i acquired an 86 and thought to rebuild it but that ain't in my nature, i had to hot-rod it. the 86 has something wrong with the motor, not sure what; but it had fair luggage (light damage) and the "Royal accessories" air ride and cruise....etc. My 83 really needed some work on the baggage and the "Royal accessories" had long since been removed..so it seemed like a good winter project to mate the two.. So far i have put the 86 swing arm, mono shock and drive train on the 83. added the dual piston rear brake caliper, still have to do the front. added the rear sub-frame from the 86. I'll be using the 83 front faring so i am leaving the 83 faring frame; but i'll have to weld the brackets for the cruise pump and actuator. added the 83 hand controls. added the air ride pump and hoses. More to come. hope someone can help with identifying the relay and plugs.
  9. First a question. In the pictures there are two plugs shown, a white one and a green one. the green one is from the clutch switch but i cant find where it goes, any ideas? The white one is a mystery...??? it has two black/white wires and a black/yellow and a blue/yellow wire. two of the pictures show a white plug that plugs into something on the middle of the rail. that relay is missing, what is it? the frame is from the 83 and dosent look the same as the 86 but the relays and harness is from the 86. all wiring from the 83 has been removed and replaced with an 86 harness. hand controls and all.
  10. I agree. As a volunteer fire and rescue servant, i have seen firsthand what drinking and driving cause. I think it should be shown here in the states on broadcast television. over and over............
  11. WOW!!! I had hoped not to have to custom make them; but i may have to. But, i will have a back rest. The backrest i'm using is from an 83, don't know if that helps any.........
  12. I'M in need of a set of back rest brackets for an 86 model. these are the brackets that attach to either side that holds the backrest in place. any condition. Thanks
  13. Hey John. 16. there's something beside windows???? I have tried to run a couple of the open source flavors;but could never find anyone that would help me to get the internet and printer working.........I gave up. Has any of that gotten better in the last couple of years? I did like the idea of getting away from winders.
  17. By all means, if the family will notify (request) the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR). They will most likely be there for the family and to shield the family from the uglies..........If it were local, I'd be there. http://www.ohiopgr.org/
  18. What he said..................
  19. It is exactly like the 86. thumb control on the left handelbar at the bottom. connects to the left rear carb. BTW - I'm sticking with the 83 faring because the 86 front plastic was used to repair an 87 that did a head on with something...I swaped all the plastic from the 86 to the 87. And the forks complete with wheel.
  20. I think it was an add on of some sort, the actuator was under the left faring, just like the 86;but it was about twice as big. the vacuum pump was not there. it connected to the carbs (if i remember right) with a cable and chain at the carbs. I still have the actuator. The title says it is an 83.
  21. All the electrics on the 86 are going on the 83 so this shouldn't be a problem. The cruise and class from the 83 were gone when i got it, that is why I'm changing out the wiring harness. that and i will be using the instrument panel from the 86. Anybody know where the computer for the cruise is? maybe in the inst. head?
  22. I have recently aquired an 86 venture that has had the front body removed but still has the rear luggage intact. Is it possible to change out the luggage to the 83? anybody tried this before? I am also looking at pulling the wiring harness and changing all the electrics as well. instrument panel and all. this will also give me the air-ride system. and cruise control. Any thoughts on this. Major projects are my favorite...................
  23. I DO BELIEVE, IT IS A FIRST GEN.!!! VERY COOL.
  24. I am mighty proud of them. and please, do keep them in your prayers.
