  1. Thought i'd post a few for the folks that ain't ever seen one torn down. These are the few i thought to take during my frame change. Can you find the Ninja Turtle on a Motorcycle??? Picts are as follows... Putting in the engine. we used a come-a-long suspended from a tree. Rope around the heads. Putting in the engine, a big helper there. jake efter getting out of the hospital, on the way to NAS P-Cola (not sure how i got it in here) Upper triple tree clamp and hardware (blury) Uppre clamp removed. Naked frame. Broken frame from the top (cant tell much) Naked frame. Two naked frames. Rear section. A mess. Right side swing arm pin. Swing arm pin goes here. Another one. Left side swing arm pin. Swing arm removed.(shock still in place) Swing arm inspection plug. Rear shock. Frame reinforced by Woodys Welding Service. (The left side (pict left) is almost two low to get to the exhaust clamp) The Tropical storm moves in. O-ring (red is original) Another shot. Oil line Someone asked about changing rod bearings with the engine in frame. This is a shot from the oil pan. another one another one More crap from the oil strainer(gasket, silacone, chewed up plastic and stuff) Another one (i found the chewed up o-ring and the steel ball in this mess) Red-neck engine lift. Trying to figure out what to do with a broken frame (blurry)
  2. pretty much the same conclusion i came to. It just bothers the fool out of me because i don't know and have no way of finding out. I'll be looking at anither motor today that i have torn apart in the shed for possible clues. I'll probably put the engine back in today and run it till it falls apart..........
  3. Lemon Pledge has got to be the most versitile product on the market today, I'll be trying it on my next tire change. Then i'll shine up the plastic. Then maybe the windshield. Hey, does this stuff replace armour-All??? Can i use it on my seat? I'v been thinkin bout shavin my head, Wonder if it makes a good head polish.
  4. It has been a while since i did mine; but the good news is that i did it all with the tubes still attatched to the bike. The bottoms were fairly easy to remove, you need the manual or at least a good parts break down to see how they come apart.
  5. I'm in the middle of a frame change because of a broken frame. While i had the engine out i wanted to check the oil line o-ring. What i found was a good red o-ring. the rest of thr o-rings are of the red type including the pump line. What disturbes me is the red 0-ring i found in the oil pump pick up screen. It seems to be the same size as the one on the oil distribution line that gives trouble (as stated in another thread by RandyA). I am concerned thet i have blown one out somewhere else; but i can't imagine where it could have come from. I have looked in the manual; but i can't find another one that big. maybe i overlooked it??? Do any of you have any ideas? I have attatched picts of the o-ring. One picture is a comparison to the oil pump line and the oil distribution line o-rings. The larger o-ring is from the oil pump line. In addition to the other trash that i dug out of the screen, i found the steel ball th at is in the picture with the broken o-ring. i included a pict of the tip of a ball point pen for size comparrison. Any ideas what the ball may be?? I think i saw anotherone but could not find it. might have been mistaken or droped it. The bike had been hard shifting before i pulled the engine. (Klunky) and i have developed a knock at idle that goes away whith increased engine speed. These are the reason i checked the o-ring.
  6. I didn't know he rode. Seems as though none of us are safe from the cagers. Hope him and the young lady heal up well...........You asked for no politics so i'll just stop right there......................
  7. For volt readings. Not continuity.
  8. Yes Sir, Tell the young Man we are Proud of him and appreciate his service. I'll be going to a send-off tonight at the Jackson International Airport. Another young man headed out.
  9. News letter, Cool !!! Monthly or quarterly? I like the idea of the stealers,,,,er, Dealers gettin a copy. If nothing else, it would let them KNOW that this is a serious group. I'm in no way a jernalist (cant even spell it) but i think it would be nice if two or three could gang up on it to keep the pressure off just one person. And probably less than "strict publication" dates.....Just my 2 coppers worth....
  10. Just talked to Jake, He is getting the book thrown at him he said. Because he was riding a bike with no helment and did not have the Military MSF course yet. No endorsement on his liscense yet either. They are taking good care of him and have him on lite duty for now. His CO told him that he has seen IED injuries in Iraq that didn't look as bad as he does.
  11. Thanks for your well wishes and prayers. Doc. let them both out of the hospital yesterday and jakes Gunny Sgt. said he could come back when the doc. released him for travel; but his CO steped in and said back on the base now! So about 3:00 yesterday we left for Pensacola. Got him there about 11:00 last night. We got home about 5:00 this morning. New estimate for stitches in jakes head is 150 (+/-) that includes internal stitches and staples. I'll post a pict if i can find my flash drive. In the picts with him sitting up, he has had enough pain meds to knock him out 3 times. adrenalin rush? He was crackin jokes while they were stitchin him up. He has been grounded to base for the remainder of his time there. Another Marine also had a bike accident over the weekend on leave. He brobe his leg.
  12. The bike is a 1978 CB550. It is in fair shape for what it's been through. This time of the year they are picking up activity around here too. I saw one on the way to the wreck last night. Jake (my son) told me last night that when he saw the deer coming there was no time to stop, he said he tried to squeeze in between the first (buck) and second (doe) deer but he didn't make it. He said he remembers seeing Loraine, the bike and the deer tumbling down the road and saw a truck coming, hoping it would stop and it did. She said he tumbled further down the road than she did and when everything stopped, they walked to each other and layed down. Then called me. I'm going back to bed, ain't got my nap out yet....
  13. Jake came home on leave this weekend. Last night he and his girlfriend were traveling home on his bike (just a few miles) and a deer ran out in front of them. They were not able to stop and hit the deer. Jake has +/- 50-60 stitches in his head and will not be able to get back on base before his leave is up. He has been in contact with the Staff at NAS P-Cola. We will take him beck when he is released from the hospital. Loraine and Jake both have quite a bit of road rash. Many sore days ahead for the both of them. No broken bones. I'm Praying for their full recovery and that they go easy on him at the base. Many Blessings so far, They are both breathing and have no broken bones, Thank you Jesus. He called me at 12:59am wanting me to come help him, I called 911 from his phone at 1:05am. Thats pretty good time. I was in bed and had to drive 3 miles. Pict #2 is deer hair sticking out from between the wheel and the tire.
  14. Would you like to wager a bet on that??? Hello, My name is Fixit3546 and I'm a venturerider.org'ahaulic...........
  15. Randy, did you see my last post? I have my oilpan off but don't see an obvious problem. haven't pulled the pipe as of yet. If the Hurricane remenance will leave, i'll pull it Saturday and probably start on my frame change. I got the title today. I'm intrested in any info on hard, klunky shifting...........Anybody?
  16. The coil you are refering to is under the left side front engine cover. It can be checked with a volt/ohm meter. I have a manual but it has a misprint in it and for the life of me i cant remember what the isprint is, except that it list the wrong common wire. not sure what the right common wire is. With it working for a while and then stopping again, I'm going to say , check the wires coming from the Stator (three white wires) and the wires coming from the rectifier/regulator. (where they connect to the harness )The connection there will cause the same problem if it is bad. Look for coorosion or melted plastic.
  17. "I feel your pain" Of the first Gens. the 83 is the fastest. I blowed this same part a few months back. One of Our fine Members in Canada had one and let me get it for a steel ya might say. (Thanks again Charlie) I'm Hoping someone here will see your plight and render simular assistance. I'd box ya one up tonight if i had one.
  18. Heres looking for a first gen for 2009...........!!!
  19. The first rule in negotiating is "You never know what you can get till you ask for it" Lets ask. After all, What better way to "Stalk" new members than to have Yamaha recomend us... Sounds good to me, where do i sighn? (I'll bet Yamaha already knows about this site.)
  20. What about me, didn't i say..........Oh yea, I didn't say anything did I. Good to hear that ya got it fixed, I certainly learned something new.
  21. Hi John. First off, it, as i understand the problem, is not a rust problem but a design defect and dosen't seem to affect all bikes. I am reparing mine now and i see no rust. We are going to just weld mine back together and add a couple of gussets. The frame dosent "break in half" but tears where the monoshock lower arms attatch to the frame. I'm not sure; but i think it, like the second gear problem, only affects the 83-85 models. Someone correct me if i'm wrong. They are great bikes. Just my 2 cents.............
  22. Scratch what i said earlier, I just re-read it and see that i mis-read it earlier. Must be the glasses:confused24:
  23. Or turned off. (don't ask) Have you checked the main fuse?
  24. That's nothing, you should see the one i just took off. it's in another post. Cool lift. does harbour freight sell that model??:rotf:
  25. This is not the first time, wont be the last time. The first time was on a honda shadow with no center stand. It worked out very well.
