I used to go fishing in front of the house. Sometimes I would "forget" to bait the hook and just lie in the skiff watching the marine life drift pass.

When I was a kid we ate clams, oysters, mussels crabs, prawns, shrimp and salmon and cod from the waters in front of the house. We could not afford hamburger. Now I only eat salmon. But flying fish is good and I don't mind catfish. I realy like hamburger.

The island I live on ( Salt Spring ) is called the Hawaii of Canada and is between Hawaii and Alaska. Many Kanakas' jumped ship here in the days of whaling and sealing and settled. Their families are still here.

We were on Norwegian Sun on our Panama Canal cruise last year. We were on it again this spring on our Alaska cruise. Some of the crew even remembered us. Norwegian (NCL) has a web site. We did the inside passage, Skagway, Ketchikan and Juneau. We found prices to be much better in Ketchikan and Skagway. At Skagway be sure to take a ride on the White Pass Railway. It is fantastic. Try to time it so the weather is good. We were in fog and rain all the way up the inside passage and back. We both enjoy the free style cruising.

would you buy a RSV again?
Sailor replied to stvmaier's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I like the bike and will keep it. It whines a bit, but so do I, just ask my wife. I would like full instrumentation and more horsepower. When they come out with the things I want I will trade up. -
1) Buy it. 2) ride it. 3) enjoy it.

Question about Canadian RSVs
Sailor replied to Monsta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My 02 Venture is metric only. I just got back from Vegas ( no, the Venture is not for sale!). where I rented two different cars during our stay (I know, should have rented a bike, but all I could find were Harleys) They were a Ford and a Suzuki. Both had MPH prominent with KPH in small figures. Visited the Grand Canyon, Brice Canyon, Zion Canyon, Monument Valley, and went river rafting on the Colorado for 15 miles. I think my favourite was the Valley of Fire. It was all spectacular. -
:cool10:I retired 4 years ago at age 59. The company was becoming hell to work for so I took a reduced pension to get out early. Took a 2% loss on the pension but it is indexed to the cost of living so I am now getting more than I would get if I had stayed. I took the Canada pension early (reduced) at age 60 so I now get 2 pensions. In two more years I get the Old Age pension so that will make three. All together they will add up to about $ 2500/mo plus my investments which give me about the same. Wife retired when I did (she was 57) and now works when she feels like it for "play time" money. My investments are well spread out with nothing too risky (when stocks go down, bonds go up and when bonds go down, stocks go up) and is well balanced. Bottom line is that I have seen too many guys work hard and die within a year of retiring. I would rather have less money and a better life than more money and no life. Only problem is that now I am retired I am so darn busy I don't know how I ever had time to go to work!

How about " What is the stupidest thing anyone has ever said to you about " 1) Motorcycles 2) Motorcycling 3) Motoryclists Could be a prize for each category, or just one overall category and prize.

Vibrates going up hill in 5th gear
Sailor replied to a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I often hit 80kph in second gear. You gotta gear down. -
Retired now but my job used to take me sailing through the Southern Gulf Islands in B.C. Over the border they are known as the San Juan Islands. Beautiful scenery and the best seat in the house, up on the bridge

'Supersport' motorcyclists have highest death rate
Sailor replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
In our area the government runs a lot of advertizing promoting awareness of pedestrians, school kids and cyclists but absolutely nothing about motorcycle awareness. We have been trying for years to get motorcycles included in the campaign. I often tell people to make a bet with themselves, on a particular day guess how many motorcycles you will see, then make the effort to count the ones you do see. I guarantee that they will count twice as many as they guessed. -
My wife has the same problem on my 02. She has short legs and the sides of the seat cut into her legs after a while. I would be interested in any solutions out there. Rocket! Nice of you to call! Sorry about your luck!

My 2nd Gen is sick...
Sailor replied to Cerviperus's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have/had a problem with the choke lever. It seems to bend very easily. Get under there with a pair of pliers and make sure it is actually moving through the full range. -
When i bought my 02 the mechanic told me it was better to rev it than lug it, V4s love revs. On my '85 v4 Madura the red line was 11,500. Apparently when they built it they ran it at 14,000 with no problems but the thought of letting that loose on the streets scared them so they limited at 11,500. Rev it up and listen to it. It will tell you if it does not like it, and if it doesn't then something is wrong.

MAC Muffleer sound bite
Sailor replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This may sound dumb but has anybody tried fitting glass packs like smitties or cherry bombs to their bike? I wonder what they would sound like? -

Come winter I take the battery out and store it in the house so the cold doesn't get to it. Usualy I get 3 years out of a battery.
