We travel a fair bit and we carry a letter from our insurance agent that they will cover rental cars. It seems that some insurance companies refuse to insure you if you rent a car while traveling. The rental car companies always want to sell you their insurance which is 10 times more expensive.

The worst present I actualy got was a 49 cent plastic flashlight on a key chain. There were no batteries but that didn't matter as it was broken anyway. I got it from my father. I gave him a bottle of single malt scotch. Another year he gave me a plaid shirt with no buttons that he got in a bargan basement sale. He was quite wealthy and bought whatever he wanted for himself so it was kind of hard to find anything for him.

Can't remember it all now but when my eldest son got married I wrote him a letter which said he had now entered the world of "Femspeak" and nothing would ever be the same again. In femspeak "NO" means "wait until I decide". "Yes" means "maybe" unless it means something else. "Maybe" means I am going to leave you dangling for a while just for the fun of it. Guys, never believe anything they say, just do the best you can and hope for the best. Usualy they are quite forgiving, especialy if there is jewelry or a spa treatment involved.

I can empathise with you. As president of our legion we raise funds to help the needy, not just at Christmas but year round. My wife is chairperson of Croftonbrook which is our low cost housing for the needy and elderly. She is squeezing money out of government bureaucrats which is harder than getting blood from a stone. She is a tiger. I feel sorry for the bureaucrats. We also have our Poppy fund which goes first to veterans and their families then anything left over goes to the community (hospital, fire dept, ambulance etc). Thankfuly we have universal medical and dental care which covers those in need as well as the rest of us. I would realy love to see some sort of government sponsored training so people could get basic training in skills which would lead to employment. We have so many jobs here that they can not all be filled. Unfortunately most of them take some sort of basic skills.

I personally let management know that it is Christmas, not happy Holiday or seasons greetings. I refuse to buy a card that does not say Christmas somewhere on it.

Canadian beers, like Canadians, vary considerably from region to region. One thing about American beers is that most are like the proverbial "intercourse in a canoe":whistling:

"Any man who hates dogs and kids can't be all bad"....W.C.Fields I like dogs but I avoid kids. If there is a kid in a movie I know it is going to be a stinker and don't watch it.

Out here wehave a nice custom called "the penny pot". There is a container on the counter and if you get a penny in change...eg. 51 cents..then you toss the penny in the pot. When you buy something if it comes to something like $ 1.02 you take a couple out. It makes it easier to make change and you don't wind up with a pocket full of pennies.

It's the real deal. We have a cathedral ceiling in the living room which is 24 ft high. The first year my wife insisted I cut a tree that would touch the ceiling. Each year I have cut it a bit shorter. We are down to a more manageable 8 ft this year.

How many of you know that it is not "Mexico" but the "United States of Mexico"? Sorry, I don't know how to say it in Spanish. When Canada went metric ( everything is on a base of 10) we had a co- worker convinced that clocks and compases were also going to be metric. He raged about it for a couple of months. I had one woman deckhand (promoted to deckhand by the capt...don't ask) I had to re-explain to her every morning that you turn the wheel right to lock the anchor and left to drop it. We never let her off the anchor deck...it was too dangerous.

I have used one for a few years now. When I took the test I stopped breathing over 400 times a night with over 200 of those times for two minutes or more. It took a bit of getting used to but now I never go anywhere without it. The settings are fully adjustable and it sounds like you might need a slight increase, after the ramp up. Stick with it, it is worth it.

We were there in September. We did the Valley of Fire, if you get a chance it is worth it. We spent a couple of nights in Paige. Did the north rim of the Grand Canyon and Princess point, Bryce and Zion. We also did a 15 mile river rafting trip down Glen Canyou. Monument valley is worth a visit.

If any of you are on the scene of a car fire stay well away, after doing what you can to help. There are a lot of highly toxic fumes that come off a car fire and many items on the car which can explode with considerable force.

Silver T .........Did you ever work for the B.C. Ferrys? That is exactly their attitude.

I don't know how many of you are aware of this but in Canada we have our own Veterans Day. We call it Remembrance Day. We have parades and ceremonies and on the 11 hour of the 11 day of the eleventh month we observe 2 minutes of silence nation wide in honor of the veterans and those who died. This was written by Canadian Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD. He wrote it in the space of 5 minutes on the battlefield at Ypres in 1915. Every Canadian schoolchild is familiar with it. In Flanders Fields During the ceremonies we had the parade turn towards Korea and salute the Allied Veterans cemetary there. 22 countries took part in the Korean war and to me a Veteran is a Veteran In Flanders Fields the poppies blow between the crosses row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved and were loved, and now we lie in Flanders Fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: to you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die we shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders Fields. Each year the Legion sells (by donation) poppies to raise funds for veterans and their families. This year I was to make a speech. Command sent me a 7 page one. I tore it up and wrote my own. Remembrance Day 2007 On this day we remember those who fought with valor and honor to preserve the freedoms which we have today. Sacrifices were made, some sacrificed their futures, some their health and some their very lives. Those who did return, returned, through their efforts, to a free country. We must never forget the sacrifices made and ever ensure that they were not made in vain. We must remember them. We must also remember the bloodshed and waste of war. By keeping those memories alive we remain eternally thankful to those who served and eternally vigilant and hopeful that our children and our children's children will not have to face the same horrors. It has been said that those who fail to learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. Let us hope that we have learned we must be prepared to stop evil before it can engulf the entire world in another war such as we have had in the past. Let us do all we can to promote peace and understanding among nations and let us never forget the sacrifices made in the past for our future. K Butler President BR 92 Royal Canadian Legion. I hope you will forgive me for posting this here but it is how I feel.

Check with the Harley riders. I believe they do it all the time. Don't forget to mark out the parking area for the cruiser, and one for the sport bike and another one for the off roader.

Yeah, sometimes the bartender puts too much ice in my drink and I have to fish some out.

When I say Americanized I mean American style tipping as opposed to European style where the tip is automaticaly included in the bill.

In England ,outside of London which has been "Americanized", Tiping (or trying to) is practicaly an insult. You will get the money given back to you.
