I would love to have one but undoubtedly far out of my price range.

All the best and hoping for a speedy recovery. Looks like you are going to be ok so how is Big Red. ?

Here a moped or scooter must be 50cc or less. If it has auxiliary pedals they don't need a motorcycle licence. If they have a motorcycle licence they must have passed their test on a 400cc or bigger before they can carry a passenger. No vehicle may drive on the highway unless it can keep up with the traffic. I have seen more mopeds on the roads here but only on the side roads. It seems a lot of people are buying them, riding one summer and selling them after they have had the s*** scared out of them. A few people have bought electric scooters. Unfortunately for them the hills here mean you see a lot of them parked halfway up a hill and for sale a week or so later. The biggest headache we have, besides ignorant drivers, is bicyclists. They are arrogant, refuse to follow any rules of the road and feel it is their right to block traffic. Unfortunately our local government panders to them which encourages them to be even more arrogant and ignorant.

Retired.......no watch, don't know what day it is, don't care, not sure of the month. If it is cold it is winter, if it is warm it is motorcycle time.

Are you getting tired of TV commercials that Stretch The Truth?
Sailor replied to baylensman's topic in Watering Hole
I know fraud exists in our car insurance system. I have seen it, but it is not the main cause of higher premiums. Each year the government takes millions of dollars out of ICBC (Insurance Corporation of B.C.) an puts it into general coffers. That money should be returned to the accident free drivers who have been overcharged for insurance. -

There is a store here that advertises 10% Tuesday, ten percent off everything. We were having a BBQ so on Monday I went in and got some ribs. The wife invited more people so I went back on Tuesday and got some more. The price had gone up by 10%. Just out of curiosity I went back on Wednesday and the price had gone back down by 10% -

I have quit watching live tv. If I want to see a show I record it then watch it the next day and skip the commercials. -
As I was sliding down the road at about 80k my helmet was bouncing off the pavement and all I could think was "This really pi**es me off". The point being I am still here, had to get a new helmet though.

A really loud air horn. Led taillights so your friends can see you disappearing into the distance. A cell phone so you can contact your wife and let her know you have not been kidnapped.

I once bought a used MGA. For the unknowing that is a small British sports car. It wasn't long before I had a guy pull out in front of me. I hit the horn and scared us both half to death. I checked the paperwork and found it had a very rare option called " twin wind horns". That is dual air horns to you and me. Sounded just like a semi. Loved that horn.

Put away the bike and the hot rod this week. Forecast is rain and below average temps for the next two weeks. I put everything away mainly because I am going into the chop shop for a knee replacement tomorrow. Left one now and right one in about 4 months. figure I won't be riding or driving for a while but I will be good to go nest spring.

A couple of my favorite Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers are " Whiskey you're the Devil", " Red Haired Mary" " Haul Away Joe"
-
I think my favorites are "Whiskey in the jar" and "Leave her Johnny, leave her"

Yep. Ships radar is nothing compared to women's radar.

Beautiful day so at my wife's insistence I took a friend of hers for a ride. Last time I did this she got a half dozen phone calls telling her I was out riding around with another woman on my bike. Just can't get away with anything on this island. Waiting for the phone calls to begin.

We had our annual toy run here on Salt Spring Island Aug 26-28. Friday set up. Campers arrived Friday afternoon. Friday night a BBQ and Music by Soul Shakedown. Saturday the run, games, beer garden, dinner and dance with music by Happy Daze. Sunday breakfast and cleanup. Last year we donated $2,500.00 to Santas workshop for underprivileged kids on Salt Spring. We also donated $ 1000.00 to a kid who had to get treatment for a very rare type of cancer. This year we are donating $5000.00 to Santas Workshop. Kinda feels good. All the hard work is worth it.

Have you checked Vancouver Island? Every time the ferry fares go up, which is every year, a bunch of larger ones come on the market fairly cheap.

I would go with the v 10. forget about the mileage. I had a dodge 440 that sucked gas on the hills but was very good on the flats because you never had to use the throttle. Our Chinook has a 360 2 bbl which lets us cruise at easily 120-130 kph on the flats but we are down to second gear and 50 kph on the hills. An original option was a 440 which I wish it had. I doubt it would make much difference on the gas bill. Ours is a 1978 but it is a one owner and in mint condition with just 95,000 kilometers on it. It took us two years to find it. We have been from Saltspring to Edmonton and another trip to Calgary for two weeks each. We plan on hitting the east coast sometime. Thinking of hooking a trailer on the back for a bike but I would downsize the bike first.

Thanks Kevin for the CD's. I got them today and have enjoyed listening to them. They remind me a bit of Tommy Makem and the Clancey Brothers. I am no longer on the exec of the Legion but I will mention the music to them. Forgot to mention that as I was listening to them a friend came by to drop off a bed. He heard them and recognized them. He had heard them on you tube. The bed is for a swarm of relatives coming in for Janets birthday party this weekend. We are having a do at the Legion and are expecting about 100 people. I only had 80 at my party. Hey, it is an island and this is what we do.

I have more gold in my teeth than in my bank. After 60 years of trips to the dentist I can assure you things have improved vastly. It used to be an hour of painful torture but now the most painful part is paying the bill.

We have a 20 foot Chinook. It is just right for Janet and myself. I have a friend who has sworn off diesels due to multiple very expensive repairs. I insisted on all fiberglass. Much less prone to leaks. Gas mileage varies considerably. On the flat it is about 12 mpg but in the mountains we are down to about 8. I like this one as it is small enough that we can drive it anywhere and if we decide to go shopping it will fit in an ordinary parking space. The bigger you go the more restricted you are as to where you can go with it. It all depends on where you want to go. We like to get off the beaten path. Don't be in a hurry, there is always a better deal just down the road. With aluminum be very cautious of leaks. They can be difficult to detect. When you first go into it sniff and see if you detect hidden mold. Of course if the owners are smokers that is all you will smell. For us it is a simple matter to unhook, drive off for the day, then return and hook back up.

Went down hard in heavy traffic on the highway. More damage to me than the bike. crash bars work. Went down soft on dry grass. Stopped the bike and put my feet down. Right foot slowly started to slide. No way I could stop it. Bike slowly went over as I abandoned ship. A friend pulled over to the side of the road and stopped. Pulled too far over. Left foot hit ground, right foot hit air. He didn't realize he was so close to the ditch. Bike went into ditch as he jumped off and watched it go.

All my sports cars have been topless. Does that mean my bike is naked?

My grandfather was a real problem. Stubborn and ignorant. He did not understand cars and would buy a new Buick ( always blue) every year because the old one was finished. I watched him bring home a new one once. He bashed all four fenders getting it into a two car garage. He always had a standard shift but did not know how to operate it. He would simply move the shifter around until he got it in a gear, any gear, and that is what he would drive in. He reversed for 20 miles one time because he had happened to hit reverse. He did not know what stop signs were for. Fortunately he lived in a small town and everyone knew him and kept out of his way. He also only drove once a week. It got so bad the cops took him to court to have his license taken away. Granddad was 90 but the judge was 93 and refused to take away his license. We found out later that when he started driving a license was not needed so he had never got one. He was "grandfathered in". Dad finally arranged with the local cops that he would " steal " granddads car and hide it in the locked garage of the local minister. Granddad reported his car stolen and made them fill out the reports. About a month later the ministers son broke into the garage and stole the car. This was in Sidney. The kid got into a police chase in Victoria and was arrested by the Victoria cops. The Sidney cops now had to explain to the Victoria cops that the stolen car had not really been stolen but that now it was stolen and that the last thing they wanted was to have it returned. On a more serious note there was an old guy who lived near us. He turned left directly into oncoming traffic and caused serious accidents three times in about 6 months before the cops finally took away his license. Now I believe they have a requirement for a doctors exam to determine fitness once you reach 80.

We drove it a while ago. You do not have to turn around at the end. The road turns into a crushed lava track and continues. In fact I think it improves. If you continue it will take you all the way around. You will come to the church where Lindbergh is buried. From the church on it is a real nice drive, beautiful bike road. The road around the north east part is much scarier.
