  1. 5:30 AM - all we got here in NE (mid-state) Ohio was some snow. There is a lot of wind so things may change.
  2. I put 55 watt white's on my Silverado - high & low beam I will never have another vehicle with yellow bulbs. I found them online & they have a lifetime warranty. If it quits, just mail it back and the send a new set.
  3. SCAM is definitely the proper description - I'm not too far from "Ohio, Cleveland USA" so ask him for his church address and I'll get some of his parishioners to adopt his PUPPIES. I really enjoy pi$$ing with those nigerians.
  4. I've had a Sears Motorcycle/ATV jack for 5 years or so. It works great with the adapter on my Venture and it worked on my GoldWing Trike as well. Never had any trouble with it at all.
  5. Guys - Again, THANKS to all and I really do feel like an a$$ for thinking that group or individual here would offer anything but help and information. It is I that needs to step back and re-access my thought process. not meaning to brag about ignorance but I had to email a member to find out how to post here. Searching for archives would have surely meant buying a new monitor or keyboard It is decided then AVONS it is !!
  6. The part I found somewhat insulting is your apparent belief that your time is more valuable than mine and others. You may not have meant that, but I can't think of any other way to interpret your words. V7Goose - If a blanket apology is needed - that's what I'll do. I apologize I appreciate your efforts as do many others I'm sure. My response was done in haste to what I presumed to be a minor attack on me. It was rescinded and an apology offered. That's the best I can do. I'm not a mechanic nor am I a computer whizz so my time spent researching something on the internet or even on this board becomes a total waste of time FOR ME. My priorities are such that at this point, I don't even know how to take the seat off my Venture to check the battery. If and when it fails, I'll probably figure out how to take care of it. Til then, I don't care about it. I keep an eye on the tire pressure and engine oil -
  7. Freebird - I too was a 3 pack a day smoker I tried patches when they were prescription only, Dr. wouldn't give me any more because he knew I still smoked. I guess a person can actually OD on nicotine with a patch and lighting up if the sequence is just right. I went to a Chiropractor and had little steel balls taped to my ear lobes. I know there were several other methods of quitting that I tried to no avail. One day there was an ad on the radio about a hypnotist coming to town. He offered twice your money back if you didn't quit. I thought that would be the easiest $40 I'd ever make. Well, after the lecture, the pictures and what was a trance of sorts, I quit. Haven't had one since. One thing that NEEDS to be said at this point - I had decided in my mind that I WAS GOING TO QUIT. No doubt in my mind that he helped, but the fact remains, it was my decision with outside help. On April 4th it will be 15 years. I hope you mri and other testing shows a good report for you.
  8. I retired early @ 62 - didn't make sense to keep working if I didn't have to. besides I have a right knee that isn't. been operated on 4 times, bone to bone, doc finally talked me into replacing it next month. Trouble started in '61' in the Army. - been fun ever since. Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy the summer w/o so darn much pain
  9. Two Tone - I apologized to Freebird and I recognize that I owe you as well. Please accept my apology for being an a$$ and not reading what I was reading. It seems that Avons are the preferred tire but I do know that in auto tires there are 'grades' that determine mileage, price etc. Is that true with bike tires as well ?? With that, I need to go protect America from all enemies, both foreign and domestic. I did that from 29Feb60 thru 19Feb63
  10. Thanks BigBoy - I wasn't aware of that. Thought it was all the same.
  11. Freebird - first let me apologize for my so immediate response to two tone white- I was definitely in error. I obviously mis-read his remarks and responded in (I felt) kind. Second - you are about 1 1/2 hours away from me and was on my agenda for a ride this year. Would really enjoy being there. thirdly - I'm retired, yet don't have nearly as much free time as I did when I was employed. Making a 'buck' is secondary to just doing what I want to do when I want to do it. fourth - I seldom do an archive search because I prefer current information as opposed to yesterday merely because of the constantly changing technology. ( even with regard to tires) fifth - THANKS for the responses I did get and thanks for the ones that may yet appear.
  12. I prefer the handle bar tie-down available from your Yamaha dealer with a ratchet on each side. Don't forget to tie down the rear tire, just need enough to keep it from bouncing side to side.
  13. I do look around - but I also have other things to do so my time is better spent trying to make a buck or two. If I use up too much bandwidth with repetitive posts or over used drivel I (or you) can request that the moderator delete my threads. I don't mind, your choice. Have a GREAT day. Dick Byrd rbyrd5@neo.rr.com
  14. My wife wouldn't even sit on my 650 V-Star so I bought a 1100 V-Star. That got her attention and she said perhaps. I took her to our local Yamaha showroom and had her try out an RSV. That was the answer. I went shopping on Ebay, found one in Virginia and bought it. This all happened in a 4 month period.
  15. I know this has been discussed more times than I can count, however being a 'newbie' I haven't seen/read any of the discussions. 2 part question - which tires do you prefer ? what kind of mileage do you expect ? I guess I should mention that I have a 2007 RSV thanks
  16. it never fails to 'crank' it does fail to start
  17. My riding buddie (who happens to be computer illiterate) has a 1998 Tour Deluxe with right at 100,000 miles. This past summer while on short rides around our county roads his bike would without warning QUIT. This happened more than several times but only once required trailering home. The one time I was with him when it happened we had just left a restaurant (ice cream) and had traveled less than a mile and it died. Within 3 minutes and without any trouble shooting it started and ran beautiful the rest of the way home. All we did was let it sit with the key off for a couple minutes and it started and away we went. Because of this problem and at the recommendation of our 'factory' mechanic, the carbs were taken off and rebuilt. Sure made a heck of a difference in performance. I'm not sure if the tank was taken off and cleaned or not. I do believe the filter was changed. Unfortunately the dog-gone thing won't mis-behave while in the care of our local Yamaha shop. Any theories or similar circumstances happen to any of you ??
  18. My plates are $33.50 ( Ohio ) Insurance $459.00 year with $500 deductible Not too bad - 66 years old, clean driving record
  19. What dragerman said
  20. RR - did you get that skillet imprint on your skull to go away yet ??
  21. Tell me more about the Kendra tires. I'm a newbie as far as our Venture goes, had a lot of GoldWings but wife really likes the ride of our 2007 Venture. Back to the tire - info lease ?
  22. Does that 'noise' come in all 2nd gen bikes ?? This past summer I bought a 2007 650 V Star that had so much noise it was scary. I 'upgraded' to a 2005 1100, same noise. Then I 'upgraded' yet again to a 2007 Venture. It still has the noise but I drown it out with the radio. I believe I'll copy the above letter and show my local Yamaha mechanic, see what they think.
