  1. you know, on second thought, look around for another Venture rider nearby and collaborate. It might even make for a nice ride to somebody's garage for an install session. If we were closer, I'd help you do it at my place since I've got all the necessary tools.
  2. I'll tell you what - if I can do it and make it work ( with help from the guys here) anybody can do it. If need be, give me a call - we can talk about it
  3. The REAL problem right now is that hardly anything is selling and when it does it's a buyers market. Look thru EBAY at your items, you will see that perhaps 1 piece out of 10 or 15 is selling. You might do well to try to get a certified appraisal and just divide everything up and put it in YOUR own estate/collection. That would be the ideal thing to do unless you have to dispose of the collection to satisfy debt or family. Sorry to hear of your loss, prayers are with you.
  4. here it is http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/2176/cat/7
  5. Look in the VR classifieds - I saw a 9' there a little while ago --
  6. You're welcome - glad I was able to help
  7. I bought one of those no maintenance batteries a month or so ago and the parts man dumped the acid for me, said it should be in for an hour before charging then to just charge it with a 5 or 10 amp charger. He didn't suggest a slow charge at all.
  8. I have a WS for sale but it measures 12 1/2" from top to the inset at the bottom. It's a Yamaha 'short' WS btw - the dark writing is on the box
  9. I hate to beat this thread to death but something just came to mind that the 'mechanic' said with regard to tire lube. He said he uses a lube that is really 'sticky' and is not water soluble. I'm now thinking that a 'sticky' lube will deter the beads from seating and may cause an unfortunate incident. Perhaps another lube that is meant to be SLIPPERY would work better, especially on ct's
  10. I checked at my local wally for oil and when I asked the attendant about Mobil 1 for motorcycles he said "I didn't know motorcycles took a different oil" That ended that and on the way home I went to Autozone, found the oil but no filter. The attendant said he could have 'tomorrow' but it's too far to drive when I may get it closer to home. Closer to home I stopped at Advance auto for the filter. I was told that they don't have a listing for motorcycles but if I could get a number off the one on the bike - again, that was the end of that conversation. Now it's Sunday and the Napa store is open from 10 to 2, it's been raining all morning, can't ride so I ended up at napa for the filter - $10 and a lot of aggravation. Since I only change oil once a year, I guess it really wasn't such a bad experience.
  11. Gunboat - whatever they are I wish you the best in getting everything resolved Dick
  12. Stupidity abounds when you're required to follow the written rule - :rotfl::rotfl:
  13. there was an article about the axle being 'hard' to get out. I printed it out but don't remember where to find it on the site. The article said something about loosening a couple bolts after you re-insert the axle w/o the rim on it. I'll see if I can find it
  14. Thanks Guys - I didn't mean to bad mouth the guy, he's really a nice guy, known him for a long time - perhaps you're right about reading the manual 'cause that sounds like what he wanted to do. Perhaps with me standing there we can get it done right and easy.
  15. #2 - You have to pull the plastic 'chrome' cover off the center of the turn signal bar and remove that bar. You will no longer use that particular bar. You also need to remove the W/S and the front of the fairing. #3 - you might want to figure a couple hours, soldering, wiring etc. #1 - the blinkers mount directly under the lamps using the supplied hardware. Be Happy to email the instruction sheet(s) there are 5 of them.
  16. Geeeeeeeezzz - after talking to the mechanic I thought I was in for a total rear end disassembly. Like I said earlier, he reads a lot into things that evidently don't have a bearing on getting the job done.
  17. Everything he said except you really don't need the spacer bar, there are 2 spacers and longer bolts with the kit and with those installed all you have to do is loosen the bar a little bit to take the fairing off. Your choice. Don't forget to get a light relay and wire into the system another thing - the green wire in the fairing IS NOT a ground - don't ask how I know:bang head: Almost forgot - I still hve the instruction sheet and can copy it and email if you want it
  18. Thanks Don - I appreciate the offer. You know I'm going to the dark side - I just can't resist the thought of radials on my bike. I loved them on my last wing, really looking forward to the switch on the Venture. As soon as I get the Honda moly 60 I ordered from http://www.casporttouring.com/ I'll be good to go.
  19. I got my Mobil 1 at Autozone but they didn't have a filter. I had to go to Napa $9.00 - I probably spent too much, I deliberately didn't check prices anywhere else, didn't want to get depressed about over spending.
  20. He's a retired 'mechanic' and has set up a small tire change/repair shop. Nice guy buy seems to read more into things than necessary. He was talking about pulling the drive shaft to get it out of the way etc. Also didn't see any need to use Honda moly 60 when there are a lot of greases that are of the same basic compound. Just a stressful situation when you haven't done something before and an 'expert' has opinions that don't match up with the guys that ride/repair Ventures. Did I mention that he's a devout GoldWing rider ?
  21. I'm entering my first rear tire change on my Venture. In talking to the local motorcycle tire shop guy, he's telling me that Yamaha's are a real pain, a lot to remove etc, etc. Is it really that difficult or is his GoldWing mentality getting in the way ??
  22. Side porch - 2 kumho tires, going to the dark side. I had Michelin radials on my last GoldWing and loved them - I'll have to start looking for a radial for the front of my Venture now.
  23. Gunboat - I just got back from my opthomologist, I thought my problem seeing was due to to 3 year old glasses - Turns out it is due to 66 year old eyes. I have a cataract in my right eye that needs to be removed and replaced with one of those new things. He explained it all but the point is I have surgery on the 20th and then follow up visits and eye drops for 3 weeks. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to map that out. There'll be no Arkansas nor Grand Canyon til the end of August or most likely the first week or so of September. BTW - guess what was on my side porch when I got home ??
  24. I don't understand the "load equalizer " - I only want a maximum of 4 led clusters w/perhaps 6 to 8 led's in each. I can't imagine the load being more than an amp or two.
  25. That's good news - I really would like to put a "few" led's at various points but I DON"T want to change the stator.
