Pipes, Carbs, Airbox 08 Venture
Hummingbird replied to Reed's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
SeaKing - I can understand your mpg concerns, it makes sense. My riding style is different than most on here in that I have a Venture to use when I have nothing else to occupy my time. I only ride about 5K miles a year, just enough to change oil and add safety chrome and LED's. -
FYI - gauge pods are back

I'm pretty sure you can copy any patent you want if it's for your own use. The real problem is when you try to sell or make money off that patent w/o proper authorization. -
Made in China - no parts support, no title, sold for off road use only ? Probably good for a farm or ranch for cheap transportation ?

Pipes, Carbs, Airbox 08 Venture
Hummingbird replied to Reed's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Being the devils advocate but not meaning to ruffle any feathers - what is so important about gas mileage on a bike when every mpg mentioned was at minimum twice what most cars & trucks are getting ?? Unless there's a vanity thing going on, 30 plus mpg is pretty good. I get 18 mpg or so out of my Z71 but have yet to check the Venture. I know that when I run out of black on the gauge it's time to get more gas. -
Thinking about getting my motorcycle endorsement
Hummingbird replied to b2dad's topic in Watering Hole
I think as soon as there's a second mc endorsement in the family, there should be a second TRIKE in the garage ! -
We have always been a 2 vehicle family. I always have a truck, presently a 2005 Chevy Silverado Z71 and my wife would leave me if I sold her Subaru and didn't replace it with another one. She presently has a 2005 Subaru Outback Wagon, she really likes it and I'm TOTALLY confident about her being able to get wherever she goes because of the All Wheel Drive feature. Anybody that lives in NE Ohio knows that the weather can change in less time than it take to get to the store and back home.

2005 RSV with Voyageur Trike Kit - Comments?????
Hummingbird replied to Evan's topic in Watering Hole
The Voyager kit is a great inexpensive alternative to the Trike. There's a couple flaws with them with regard to performance but over all a really neat kit. I had a friend that had one on his Wing and a couple time he got the drive wheel in a 'gully' and was help up in the air by the 2 side wheels. That only happened on a dirt/gravel road with ruts that we shouldn't have been riding on anyway. Generally speaking, a person can find one the Voyager kits (used) for $2000 or less versus $6000 and up for a trike kit.- 5 replies

I haven't even looked at mine since I parked it and hooked up the tender. If this heat wave continues for a few days I'll probably start it up and let it warm up. btw - does it harm the system to leave the battery tender on while it's running ??

It reads as if a full face helmet is against the law as well - look out crotch rockets My wife wears a 3/4 helmet with a full mirrored shield - I'm sure that there are antiquated laws still on the books in all of our states that put many of us in jeopardy of a ticket on a daily basis.

Ok - here's the story from the dealer. I just spoke to my local GM dealer and they will replace and reprogram the cluster for $105. I guess that's a fair price considering the programming cost is $75. I do have 72,000 miles on my truck and it falls into the secondary mileage repair. $105 sure beats the heck out of a possible $800 for a new one. When I called the dealer I was met with a little resistance until I gave him the data sheet # from GM. Saddlebum - THANK YOU for that info and Thanks to everybody else for the helpful information. This has got to be one of the best groups around !!

I had the steering "clunk" on my 2005 Silverado at 30,000 miles or so - the dealer pumped it full of grease and about a month ago it started annoying me again (60,000 miles) so I bought a new link and had it installed. Cost me $125 for the shaft and labor.

Thanks guys - it's too late to call this evening but tomorrow AM I'll call 'em. I hate to admit it out loud but my nearest dealer hasn't in the past been too happy about warranty work. The last time I had a problem the service "person" told me there was nothing he could do because there wasn't a recall. It was a problem with the rear u-joint and he flatly refused to do anything and it was still under warranty. I asked if I did a few neutral power slams and broke it off it I could get it fixed then. Believe it or not, he all of a sudden set up an appointment to fix it. Go figure. get the vin number and current miles, and call the local gm dealer, there has been a m program, "not a recall "for this concern and they are extending coverage to 100,000 miles and 10 years. e-mail me your info if the local shop cant help you.. and i will look it up and give you the program number for coverage. the problem is in the instument cluster only, not in the trans, or any speed sensors this program coverage is for all the full size gm trucks and yukons, denali, ect... from 02 to 06 i think. and they replace the entire cluster. mike. Thanks Mike - if I get no positive response tomorrow, I'll email you.

Oh crap - I was just getting the small block chevy figured out and now you guys come up with all of this stuff I suppose it makes sense to take it to a trusted mechanic and get things tested. I don't have any warranty left (3 years, 36,000 miles) and I'm pretty sure without a recall the local dealer will not fix it without me getting a second mortgage on the house and that's not going to happen. The last payment is in sight and I'm not going to mess that up. Thanks Again -

I have a 2005 Silverado Z71 - A few days ago I noticed that the Speedo wasn't working. I immediately went to the odometer and it was registering mileage. The next time I drove the truck, it was working (speedo) then while driving it quit. Since the initial episode I've noticed it starting and stopping with no indication of trouble. It just comes and goes when ever - I'm guessing that the unit is electrical and not mechanical like they used to be - Anybody have this problem ? or have a solution ? Thanks

I haven't been around long enough to accumulate any spare parts but I do have an original front turn signal bar. If that's a needed part, squidley knows it's his if he needs it. plus I'll ship it

I have the 550 and would really miss the XM radio. Actually, I would consider the 660 downsizing form the 550.

wonky signal light
Hummingbird replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If my lights started acting wonky, I might just leave them alone, wonky sounds kinda kool. but on the other hand if that were happening to my lights, I would replace the flasher. They aren't that expensive. btw - in your shaking and pulling etc. did you notice any mounting bolts that may need tightening ? never rule out grounding - -
Loosing a key hasn't happened to me in the 51 years I've been driving/riding and I would guess that I've not got that much time left so I'm not going to worry about it. Statistically I will most likely loose a key but again, I'm going to chance it - BUT if I were to hide a key on the Venture, I think the best place to hide would be zip tied to the frame under the seat ?

garage door is frozen to the ground and it won't go up or I would be riding
